Candidate seeks office of Guadalupe County Sheriff Cindy Aguirre-Herrera
(Seguin) – After a year of serving directly under the leadership of Guadalupe County Sheriff Arnold Zwicke, Chief Deputy Joshua Ray says he is ready to take over as the next top county lawman. Ray has officially announced his bid to seek the Republican nomination for Guadalupe County Sheriff during the March 2024 Primary. The announcement came soon after Zwicke publicly announced his decision not to seek reelection. Ray says his time at the sheriff ’s office this past year has provided him with the insight he feels he needs to assume the role. “It’s really the culmination of my career. I spent my entire adult life in public service. It started when I enlisted in the Marine Corps and then I followed by dad’s footsteps and went into law enforcement. I’ve been in law enforcement for 23 years now. I had the opportunity last year to retire from the Texas Rangers and serve as the chief deputy at the Guadalupe County Sheriff ’s Office. During this last year, I’ve been able to serve under Sheriff Zwicke which has been great for me because I’m serving under a man who has done it for 23 years and through this last year, I have been able to
supervise and learn every aspect of the sheriff ’s office and be a part of everything that we have done over the last year from managing a $17 million budget to acquiring pay raises for our deputies and to be involved with each of our divisions during enforcement capacity each and every day whether it’s recover stolen vehicles, working homicide investigations, helping our Cold Case investigators, narcotics task force - every aspect of the sheriff ’s office,” said Ray. and foundation already established by Sheriff Zwicke who during his announcement to the public also endorsed Ray’s candidacy. Ray says his intentions are to operate the sheriff ’s office with the same values he incorporates into his own life. He describes it as leadership grounded in transparency, integrity, community engagement and professionalism. “I am an open and honest man. Integrity is all that I am. I am a man of integrity, a man of faith. My faith really guides who I am. I am a Christian man. I’m a family man. Other than my faith, my family is probably the most important aspect of my life and that really defines who I am -- not just as a man but as a law enforcement professional. I care about people. I got into public service because I care about people. Sheriff Zwicke said he wanted to select somebody that would have the citizens of Guadalupe County in mind, and I think that’s very very important for a sheriff because a sheriff to me is the elected representative of the people in law enforcement. I just plan to carry on that tradition just like the sheriff has,” said Ray. The Republican and Democratic Primary Election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
