Matador Stadium inches closer to the finish line Seguin High School hopes to step onto field soon

"First of all, looking at the stadium, if you've driven by recently, you know we are about almost 75 percent complete with the stadium so getting there. Going up quick. We are on schedule to possibly have the field turned over by the end of this month so the team can start using the field under safety precautions so that's a plus. Again, it's all weather related but we are in good shape right now. The complex, again, will be turned over to us in August," said Lewis.

"You can see almost both sides, the stands at least the framework on the home side is going up right now. To finish up, they put the glass on the press box etc. It kind of really changed the whole landscape of it when they got that glass up. They've built the foundation.

The concrete has started on the home side and that will continue and then the building of the concession, restrooms will go up under the home side stands.

The home side bleacher installation is ongoing. Ticket booth construction is ongoing both ticket booths are there and they are finishing up some of that piece right now. Restrooms, concessions are ongoing. The turf, the track, they already done striping on the track so most of that is already done. I think they still have to do the time clock installation on each end but most of that has gotten done. We have posted pictures of that. It looks really good.

Press box construction is ongoing. We are doing installation inside and pretty much all drywall and wiring and so forth and they continue to work through each of those pieces," said Lewis.

During the board meeting, Lewis listed off a checklist of projects that are currently underway at the stadium.

(Seguin) -- The Seguin ISD may just be days away from having its Matador Stadium football field returned to its athletic department.

That's the latest word from Bill Lewis, Seguin ISD associate superintendent of technology. Lewis recently provided a bond update on the Seguin High School Matador Stadium to members of the Seguin ISD Board of Trustees. Lewis says things are all moving along as planned.

By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera (Seguin) -- Thanks to the faith that a local business has in the Seguin Police Department, officers were able to snag an area thief. Seguin Police Chief Terry Nichols says the arrest occurred Friday morning but not after the Seguin PD teamed up with Dietz Tractor Company.

"They went through the fence, tried to hotwire one of the big tractors and then forced open the gate and stole two riding lawn mowers, deck mowers -- very big expensive deck mowers. They also stole a flatbed trailer from one of the businesses right down the street Seguin Machining and Supply. We found the trailer stolen from Seguin Machining and Supply in the parking lot of the Philips Market right there at the corner with Austin at the access road. It was abandoned there and looking around, they found one of the mowers hidden in the brush behind the store as well. We worked with the Dietz and they agreed to let us to leave it out there and put it under surveillance, leave

Nichols says he is thankful to Dietz for giving them a chance to make things right.

"I'll give a shout out to Dietz because they had the courage to trust us, to allow us to keep it under surveillance. They could have very easily said 'give us our $10,000 mower. Thank you very much. We are done.' But, they allowed us to leave it out there and trusted us to take care of it and we did," said Nichols.

(Seguin) -- Guadalupe Regional Medical Center (GRMC) has announced that it has achieved the Healthgrades 2020 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™. This distinction recognizes GRMC as being among the top 5 percent percent of hospitals nationwide for patient experience, according to Healthgrades, the leading resource that connects consumers, physicians and health systems.

Healthgrades evaluated 3,346 hospitals that submitted at least 100 patient experience surveys to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), covering admissions from April 2018 through March 2019, to identify hospital performance. Of those hospitals evaluated, 424 hospitals outperformed their peers-based on their patients' responses-to achieve this distinction.

Sports Digest Texas Motor Speedway Will Welcome Fans For July Races

Report: Rockets To Sign Nwaba

Rope found hanging in Wallace's garage was coincidence

(Lincoln, AL) -- NASCAR went to Talladega Superspeedway on heightened alert after Bubba Wallace, its only Black driver, took on an active role in a push for racial equality.

Wallace had successfully called for the ban of the Confederate flag and received threats.

Fans paraded past the main entrance of the Alabama track displaying the flag, and a plane circled above the speedway pulling a Confederate flag banner that read ''Defund NASCAR.'' So NASCAR moved quickly when one of Wallace's crew members discovered a rope that resembled a noose in their garage stall. The sanctioning body called in federal authorities, who ruled Tuesday it had been hanging there since at least last October and was not a hate crime.

Wallace's garage and none provided any details of the incident.

Because of health protocol restrictions, a limited number of personnel have access to the garage. Only a handful of Wallace's crew members and NASCAR saw the rope.

Roughly 48 hours after the discovery, federal authorities said video confirmed the rope ''was in that garage as early as October 2019'' hanging from a garage door. The rope was referred to as a noose, but can be used as a handle when closing the door.

Phelps continued to call it a noose after authorities said no charges would be filed, and held firm in that NASCAR is investigating why the rope was tied that way. (Undated) -- A Missouri judge is ordering Johnson and Johnson to pay more than two billion dollars after the company's talc-based product caused ovarian cancer. Tuesday's ruling cut in half a previous decision of four-point-six-nine billion in July 2018 after 22 women and their families sued. Johnson and Johnson has appealed the verdict, requesting the decision be thrown out entirely, which the court declined to do after it found "significant reprehensibility" in the product. The court pointed to memos dating back as far as the 1960s that showed Johnson and Johnson knew talcum was contained asbestos.

Yolie was the center of attention at every event that she attended and her purse always carried all the snacks.

She enjoyed being out and about the town and was always noticed wherever she went. Her laughter was unique as was her personality. She will always be remembered for her eccentric ways and how she lived a fearless life.

Yolanda G. Rangel of Seguin, Texas peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 19, 2020 at the age of 66. She was

Ernest will be remembered as a longtime farmer here in Guadalupe County.

He was proud to be a lifetime member of the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse and a longtime member of the Guadalupe County Farm Bureau.

He enjoyed volunteering in the York Creek Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the York Creek Water Shed.

Ernest Hartman, Sr., age 91 of Seguin, passed away on June 21, 2020.
