Seguin High School salutes its seniors with virtual celebration this Sunday Families to view accomplishments in the comforts of their own home By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera (Seguin) -- The celebration and tribute to the Seguin High School Class of 2020 begins this weekend. Seguin High School is inviting the community to join it as it presents a virtual Senior Celebration Commencement Ceremony beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday The virtual ceremony is significant in that it will take place during the same time and date of the high school's originally planned live graduation ceremony. Although a new live ceremony has been planned for early June, the virtual ceremony was moved into action when school officials simply had no idea of what was going to happen amid the COVID-19 pandemic. High School Principal Dr. Hector Esquivel says from the very beginning, his team quickly mobilized to ensure some kind of recognition for the graduating seniors. "At the time when we started this virtual ceremony, we were not even close to starting to plan an actual live ceremony. We were still on the very tough COVID-19 restrictions from the state and local officials. At the time, we actually thought this was going to be probably the graduation so we hired some people to come on board and produce this and we got the community involved. We got the students notices. When they came up for their cap and gown, we let them know then. Everybody knew where to go to upload their photos. At the time, I was not even thinking about the actual live graduation so we were actually thinking this might be it but we were still holding out hope that maybe we could do something in July or August. This was something we wanted to have as a school to commemorate the Class of 2020 in case something never happened after that so this is the importance of this project," said Esquivel.
