Habitat for Humanity looking for potential lots for sale By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera

are meeting over Zoom right now and so, we definitely have a need for that to serving on our fundraising committee or our family selection committee -- any of those things. There’s plenty of opportunities just to touch base with us. If your interest lies in building, then that’s great or if it’s in retail, then come volunteer at our store or if it is family services, maybe a good option would be to serve on our family selection committee and so there’s plenty of different options to get involved with us,” said Zwicke.

(Seguin) -- Before it can pull out its toolbox, the Guadalupe Valley Habitat for Humanity Program must first find some property in which to build on. In fact, the non-profit organization is on the search for a handful of properties for its building schedule for 2021. Executive Director Madeline Zwicke says she hopes that anyone who knows of a lot for sale will point them in the right direction. “Buildable lots are our greatest need right now and we are willing to purchase those lots. In the past, we’ve had some donated or have been given to us as a gift in-kind but we are also willing to purchase the lot if they are in our budget and we are flexible on that, but we are definitely looking for buildable lots. They have to have a minimum of 50 feet wide by 100 feet of depth and we are looking in Seguin right now so if anyone knows of any lots available or if you have a lot that you are interested in selling to us, they

can contact us at our office,” said Zwicke. Zwicke says the homebuilding program has continued with plenty of steam even throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. She says the need for homes is great and the group continues to do what it can for local families. “We are looking at purchasing three lots minimum right now for 2021. We currently own two lots. One of

them being at 427 Reiley Road. We are about to start building and then we are needing some variances and replot work done on the other lot that we own so we are wanting to build three homes in 2021 so we need to purchase at least three lots in order to keep moving forward,” said Zwicke. Zwicke says support from the community continues to be the driving force in not only building a home but also making sure that the process of dedicating multiple

homes each year goes smoothly. She says when it comes to Habitat for Humanity, there are all sorts of ways to help. “If they can give financially or even just volunteering. With COVID, it’s been hard to continue building but we are taking all of the precautions. We are limiting our build site. We are requiring masks so even if it looks like volunteering or giving financially, or even serving on a committee. All of our committees

Again, anyone with leads on potential building lots or properties in Seguin is asked to call the Habitat office at 830-401-0422. Properties across Guadalupe County are also always needed. Habitat volunteers on Saturday, Jan. 23 are also planning for their 32nd home dedication for the Rodriguez Family. This will be the first time that volunteers will build a five-bedroom home for a deserving family. The dedication gets underway at 10 a.m. at the homesite located at 725 Shannon Ave.
