Power Blocks: ELA Teacher Implementation Guide

Power Blocks: ELA addresses power language arts standards through opportunities to practice skills in multidimensional ways! Each lesson provides students with activities that allow them to make meaningful connections to their learning through writing, singing, dancing art, math, and so much more. This allows students to spark connections to what they already know and accelerates learning!
Best Practices Introduce: Our cast of characters star in a video to help review or introduce each concept to your class with the whole class experience "Introduction" activity. This allows the class to build on prior knowledge, ask questions and move forward with a solid understanding of the concept.
Complete over multiple days: Each activity within a Lesson takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. Students can work through each activity at their own pace, and you can assign which activities are most relevant for your class, small group, or individual students. Supplement: Use Power Blocks: ELA to supplement core instruction by assigning a Lesson to reinforce a skill you taught, or to meet students where they are. If a student or small group needs to accelerate learning, you can differentiate how you are supporting your class by assigning to students at all different stages.

Story Pirates Idea Storms are bite-sized creative writing exercises from our friends at Story Pirates. Funny performances and stories from real students model writing techniques in an engaging way, encouraging students to get silly and move past writer's block. Teachers can use graphic organizers to help students plan their work, or use built-in musical timers to kickstart 10 minutes of free writing.
Best Practices Implementation: Lessons can be done as one-off routines to build good writing habits over time, or to begin brainstorming for a larger writing project. Instruction: Listen to the podcast, then project the writing prompt on an interactive white board for the whole class. Students can individually write using devices or a pen and paper. Scaffolds: Many lessons include graphic organizers that help students brainstorm while reinforcing the learning goals. If your classroom routine allows time for it, ask students to complete the graphic organizers before beginning the free write.

Instructional Templates Teacher Implementation Guide Encourage student creativity and communication with open-ended ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Computer Science, and Behavioral Reflection Instructional Templates. Teachers can customize these templates to target specific standards before assigning to students to practice, apply, and demonstrate their learning. Instructional Templates allow for easy differentiation as students choose how to complete them.
Best Practices Customize for your classroom: Choose a subject area and focus topic template. Add a specific number, vocabulary word, book, topic, strategy, or problem for students to engage with. Foster student independence: Model how to complete new templates with the whole class or small group prior to assigning to students for independent work. Encourage students to use multiple tools to explain their thinking. Build formative assessment routines: Customize and assign templates to support student reflection and demonstration of knowledge as daily checks for understanding, end of unit review, or center activities.
