Collection Overviews Fonemas fantásticos (PK-1)
These lessons systematically target various aspects of phonemic awareness. Students develop phonemic awareness by listening to, identifying, matching, adding, and substituting sounds to build awareness of each phoneme. These lessons provide a structured approach to developing phonemic awareness, supporting students' progress from basic sound recognition to more complex phoneme-manipulation tasks.
Fonética fenomenal (K-1)
These lessons are a series of phonics lessons focusing on specific sound-spelling patterns. Each lesson guides students through activities such as sorting, blending, segmenting, and changing words, along with dictation exercises. Through these structured yet flexible activities, students develop phonological awareness and phonics skills, laying the groundwork for their success in reading and writing.
Early Literacy
Casa del árbol de letras y palabras (PK-1) These lessons feature two types of books designed to support oral language and early literacy development: Letter Books and Sound & Word Books. The Letter Books focus on individual letters/digraphs and their corresponding sounds, helping students identify them in context and recognize words beginning with specific phonemes. The Sound & Word Books build on this foundation, guiding students through decoding practice with syllables, diphthongs, hiatuses, digraphs, and consonant blends.
Juegos de fonética (PK-1)
These lessons support emergent readers in developing comprehensive letter knowledge and phonological awareness. Through multi-sensory activities, students strengthen their visual discrimination, auditory processing, and fine motor skills essential for early reading success. The lessons incorporate explicit instruction in both uppercase and lowercase letter forms, supporting the development of print concepts and fostering a strong understanding of the alphabetic principle.
4
Collection Overviews Súper sílabas (K-1)
These lessons build syllabic awareness and decoding skills through systematic, engaging practice with the fundamental building blocks of Spanish. Students practice essential skills such as building syllables from individual phonemes, blending them into words, counting syllables, and reading Spanish syllables and words fluently. This focused, hands-on practice supports the phonological proficiency students need for early reading success.
Early Literacy
Palabras de uso frecuente con Liza (K-1) These lessons help students build word recognition and analysis strategies through focused, multimodal practice with high-frequency words. Through reading, writing, spelling, and teacher-facilitated activities, students develop automaticity with these words, strengthening their ability to recognize them instantly and apply that recognition across texts. This collection builds students' confidence and fluency with the words they'll encounter most often in their reading.
Pasajes decodificables (K-1) These lessons feature carefully crafted Spanish-language texts that systematically introduce and reinforce specific sound-spelling and syllable patterns, building students' phonics skills and reading fluency. Each lesson incorporates fluency practice, word work, comprehension activities, and opportunities for reflection, giving students multiple ways to apply what they've learned in meaningful contexts.

Phonemic awareness is the understanding that a word consists of a sequence of distinct sounds (phonemes). Fonemas fantásticos covers more than 20 consonant phonemes in the Spanish language and offers students opportunities to practice these sounds both in isolation and in context. Each lesson focuses on a specific phoneme and guides students through a progression of activities that gradually increase in complexity to systematically develop their awareness and manipulation skills for each phoneme.
Best practices: Follow the sequence: The order of the lessons reflects how children acquire speech sounds, ensuring a structured path to effective learning based on the latest research. Model articulatory gestures: Use the provided lesson videos as a resource to consistently and accurately model the articulatory gestures for each phoneme. Pause the video at key moments to highlight specific aspects of articulation and encourage students to imitate your movements and practice along with you. Flexible implementation for differentiated learning: These lessons are designed for versatile use, allowing for small group instruction, individual support, or asynchronous learning. While younger students may benefit from guided practice with an adult, the consistent and predictable structure of the activities encourages greater independence over time.

Teaching phonics deepens students' understanding of the relationships between sounds and their spelling. Fonética fenomenal offers more than 25 comprehensive lessons to provide students with structured and systematic practice opportunities that gradually increase in complexity. Each lesson includes sorting, matching, segmenting, manipulating, and writing activities, and also incorporates multisensory approaches to support diverse learning styles and help students become more confident readers and writers.
Best practices: Systematic phonetic instruction: In our Scope and Sequence document, the sequence of lessons is carefully organized, from high-utility letters to low-utility letters and sound and spelling patterns, progressing from the simplest to the most complex skills. Consistent recurring review: Periodically review previously learned spelling and sound patterns to reinforce learning and promote retention. Incorporate spiral review techniques that progressively increase in complexity, enabling students to make connections between various spelling and sound patterns. Metacognitive phonics instruction: Encourage students to be aware of their own learning processes by asking them to reflect on the strategies they are using, how they are applying phonics rules, and why these skills are useful. Inviting students to track their progress and share their insights allows them to deepen their understanding of specific spelling and sound patterns and how they learn best.

Decoding—the ability to connect letters or letter combinations with their corresponding sounds to pronounce words while reading—is a fundamental early literacy skill. Casa del árbol de letras y palabras includes short, engaging books filled with realistic, relatable pictures that give students opportunities to practice alphabet recognition and decoding skills. Each book focuses on a different letter or digraph, such as "ch," "ll," "qu," and "rr." As students interact with these books, they actively explore common sound-spelling relationships, strengthen their oral language skills, and expand their vocabulary.
Best practices: Contextualized learning: Use real-life images in short books to help students connect letters and words to meaningful contexts. This approach improves their understanding and retention of sound patterns and spelling. Multisensory engagement: Incorporate activities that involve multiple senses, such as having students trace letters while saying their names and sounds, or using physical movements to represent different combinations. This reinforces learning through diverse modalities. Progressive skill development: Lessons are structured to gradually introduce and develop different sound and spelling patterns, starting with the simplest and most common patterns before progressing to more complex ones. This systematic approach allows students to develop their skills gradually while reinforcing previous learning.

Word recognition—the ability to quickly and accurately identify written words without phonetic decoding—is an important skill that enables fluent reading and comprehension. Palabras de uso frecuente con Liza offers a comprehensive approach to strengthening students' word recognition skills with over 100 frequently used words, representing 50% of the words commonly found in children's texts. Each lesson focuses on a specific frequently used word and guides students through a series of activities to analyze, identify, spell, write, and use it. Through repeated exposure and practice, students develop automaticity in recognizing these words.
Best practices: Spelling mapping: Guide students to say the focus word aloud, prolong each sound, write the word, and identify regular or unusual spelling patterns within the word. By encouraging students to share their observations, you help them connect the pronunciation, spelling, and meaning of the word. Contextual reading practice: Provide opportunities for students to apply their word recognition skills in connected texts, allowing them to see how words function within sentences and longer narratives. Repeated exposure and practice: Implement consistent practice sessions with these 100+ frequently used words, as they form an important part of children's texts. Regular review and repetition will help solidify the recognition and use of these words, improving overall reading fluency.

Click here to view the collection
Super sílabas is specifically designed to build a solid foundation in syllable awareness and decoding skills through syllable mastery. This collection provides students with engaging and systematic opportunities to explore the fundamental components of the Spanish language. Students will practice essential skills, including forming syllables from individual phonemes, combining syllables to form words, counting the number of syllables in a word, and ultimately, fluently reading syllables and words in Spanish.
Best practices: Syllable preview: Before beginning the lesson, review the focus syllables with the students by pronouncing them aloud and asking them to repeat them. This activates auditory memory and prepares students to recognize them more quickly during practice. Syllable formation with manipulatives: Use cards, tiles, or movable letters to have students physically construct syllables from individual phonemes. This multisensory practice reinforces the connection between sound and written symbol. Fluency as the goal, not just accuracy: Once the student decodes a syllable accurately, continue practicing until they read it quickly and easily.
