Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar appeals to Rotarians to strengthen the Rotary Foundation
CM Uttrakhand inaugurates the PolioPlus Workshop at Dehradun & Saharanpur
Strategic Plan for District 3080 formulated at Level-2 Workshop
ur heart goes out to the family of President Ramesh Maini whom we lost suddenly at a very young age. He was a bright star and a performer. We shall miss him. I hope his club will continue with his plans and make his dreams come true.
Two months have flown and we have ten months to achieve goals we have set for ourselves. My club visits have started with the blessings of the Almighty with my first visit to the club in the holy city of ‘Anandpur Sahib’. As I move forward, the enthusiasm and energy I see in the Rotarians I meet, gives me hope that Team 10-11 will set new benchmarks this year. The Level-2 seminar on strategic planning at Panchkula and new members’ orientation meets at Dehra Dun, Roopnagar and Panipat were held successfully. Others are planned at Shimla, Kurukshetra, Chandigarh and Saharanpur. The zonal intercities start in September. There is a buzz in the District and Rotarians are enthused. September is the 'New Generations Month' and clubs are encouraged to hold joint meetings and have projects with Interact and Rotaract clubs participation. Encourage the children and youth to join the fight against Polio. Make them equal partners in securing the future as a ‘Polio Free World' for our children by participating in the drive to raise funds from the community for the $200 million Bill & Melinda Gates Polio Challenge. October is the ‘Vocational Service Month’ and it is time to reaffirm our faith and adherence to the Rotary values and the Four Way Test. Let us reach out and promote excellence in Rotarians through vocational awards and seminars. We are lucky that the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Rotary Foundation, PRIP Carl- Wilhelm Stenhammar addressed us at a special intercity in his honour at Chandigarh on 28th August 2010. The generosity of our Rotarians knows no bounds; nine MAJOR DONORS in this year and many PHF candidates already. Let the support to the TRF continue in the same flow for the rest of this Rotary year and we will set a new record of giving. District officers and zonal chairs are requested to forward their activity reports for the first quarter by end September. It is time to reflect on our plans and evaluate our achievements so far and continue with greater vigor to achieve our goals and may be exceed them as we go along Building Communities, Bridging Continents.
GOVERNOR’S OFFICIAL VISITS
POLIOPLUS WORKSHOPS AT UP & UTTRAKHAND
Governor’s Official Visit Anandpur Sahib - Neeru & I accompanied by AG Trilok Anand started our visits with RC Anandpur Sahib. We were received by President Palwinder Jit Singh Kang and his team at Gurudwara Kiratpur Sahib. After seeking blessings of the Almighty and being honored with Siropas, we proceeded for the meeting with club officers followed by the regular meeting. We were joined by Ann Maninder Jit ji. The club leadership is determined to take the club forward and shall have support of the District. Good services project will lead to recognition in the community and growth of membership. My regrets to the members for my late arrival due to the unscheduled but necessary trip to Solan in the morning resulting in cancellation of the lunch and project visit planned by the club. I promise to visit your projects another time.
RC Ambala City – Neeru & I were received by President Mam Chand Gupta ji and Ann Sudhrashan ji who took us to the meeting venue where we were joined by AG Anand Khurania, AG Naresh Aggarwal and Ann Manju besides other senior Rotarians. Visited many club projects before returning for the club meeting conducted ably by PP Bajaj. The project to teach street children is commendable. The club is encouraged to concentrate on membership development and retention. RC Dehradun West – It was an eventful visit to a club struggling till last year. They have added eight new members and promise to grow to 30 by end of the year. They also propose to start an Interact club and form an RCC. Important to consolidate and ensure good fellowship amongst members before embarking on service activities... the club is on the right path.

CARL-WILHELM STENHAMMAR’S VISIT MAJOR DONORS ZONAL MEETS STRATEGIC PLAN FOR 3080. LEVEL-2 WORKSHOP
Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar Visits our District
Polio is our major concern The Rotary Foundation Chairman Rtn. Carl Wilhelm Stenhammar was in Chandigarh on 27-28 August 2010. He attended the college of Governors on 28th August over lunch and later addressed the Intercity at IIHM, Chandigarh. Major donors and other contributors to the Rotary Foundation were honoured on this occasion. Eradication of Polio from the remaining four endemic countries in the world is Rotary International's biggest challenge, said Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar, the Chairman of the Trustees of The Rotary Foundation, while addressing the Rotarians. Stenhammar commended the Rotarians in their fight against polio and how they have been able to bring down the incidence over the years. He also appreciated the fact that India is one of the third largest country today for its financial contribution to the Rotary Foundation after USA and Japan, and hoped that it would definitely continue to improve its ranking with its enthusiastic participation and
growing number of Rotarians. The Rotary Foundation, which is one of the world's largest trusts, has spent over $ 800 million since the beginning of the fight against polio and in the last leg there is an urgent need for more money for which Bill and Milinda Gates Foundation has contributed US$355 million, and another US$200 million is being raised by the Rotarians. Earlier Rtn. Yash Pal Das, Rotary International Director Elect, District Governor Madhukar Malhotra and Past Rotary International President Rajendra K. Saboo provided an overview of the projects being undertaken by the District 3080, and informed him about the involvement of Rotarians in providing relief for the catastrophe-hit Leh area. On this occasion, some of the major donors to the Rotary Foundation and the clubs which have provided financial support to the polio challenge were also recognized.

The movie ‘Come September’ comes to my mind as I pen and share my thoughts with you. After the melodious ‘Saawan ka Mahina’ by celebrating and savoring the fragrance of Teej – we have this month dedicated to youth. “To get what you never got - you have to do what you never did”. The phrase does ring a bell somewhere at some stage of our lives, so how do we go about it? We all have different personal experiences. When we talk of youth including our children, we may, at times, not be able to build the future for our youth but we can certainly, with some efforts, build our youth for the future. We need to nurture their capacity and sagacity. Caught up as they are in their self indulgent hectic lifestyles, where, in the daily hustle & bustle, the very purpose of life is often pushed into oblivion. So let us learn from the Rotary platform – ‘LEND A HAND’, ‘REACH OUT’, ‘BE A FRIEND’, ‘LOOK BEYOND YOURSELF’ & show that ‘ROTARY CARES’ & ‘ROTARY SHARES’ by ‘SOWING THE SEEDS OF LOVE’ to ‘MAKE THE DREAMS REALS’. Am I able to drive home my point?? Till we meet next,
