2021 PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

Over 700 people participated in one or more of 60 virtual and in-person Seeds of Peace programs in 2021, many of them new and innovative offerings that expanded our reach.

Kids4Peace Jerusalem continued to bring young Jews, Christians, and Muslims together for interfaith dialogue and leadership development and to learn about the religious traditions and life experiences of others and develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to be agents of change.

Seeds of Peace launched its Core Leadership Program for high school students in 2021 focused on dialogue, community building, leadership, and community action. The program is rooted locally, seeking to reflect community needs and aspirations and prepares youth to work across lines of difference to create a more just and peaceful world. These intensive programs all require at least 50 hours of participation.

Core Leadership Program highlights included an interfaith camp (India), a youth leadership and dialogue camp (Pakistan), the Bassmeh, RISE and Core identity and leadership programs (Palestine, Jordan, Israel).

After a pandemic hiatus in 2020, the Seeds of Peace Camp in Maine returned for its 28th summer, convening over 130 campers from diverse backgrounds from the US northeast over the course of two sessions.

The Seeds of Peace Camp in Maine is designed to equip young leaders with the skills needed to bridge divides, build relationships across lines of difference, and learn how to take action to create more just and inclusive societies. The program centers around professionally facilitated dialogue sessions in a summer camp setting that encourages leadership development and transformative personal growth.

WHAT WE DO Seeds of Peace equips courageous youth and educators with the skills and relationships to work in solidarity across lines of difference to create more just and inclusive societies.

Seeds of Peace’s GATHER initiative deepens and accelerates the impact of Seeds of Peace alumni and other changemakers working to transform conflict through economic, social, and political change.

In 2021, GATHER began experimenting with convening changemakers at a local level to address community needs. These local groups, called Hubs, convene regularly for dialogue, education, and change-oriented action, to increase justice and inclusion in the local community.

Other programs for adults included the ninemonth Samvaad Project and the Kitnay Duur, Kitnay Paas Film Project, both funded by the United States Department of State.

Samvaad trained more than 30 professors from universities across western India in interfaith dialogue facilitation, making this initiative the first of its kind in the country.

Kitnay Duur, Kitnay Paas brought together 42 emerging Indian and Pakistani filmmakers.

The participants were placed into eight cross-border teams and tasked with creating short films that uplift themes of connection, understanding, and friendship between the two countries.

The film project was one of the latest in Seeds of Peace’s long history of working with and through art to connect people and create pathways to peace.
