INTRODUCTION

DEAR FRIENDS, 2020 marked a period of great change, growth, and adaptation at Seeds of Peace. Organizationally, Seeds of Peace merged with the interfaith youth non-profit Kids4Peace. Founded in Jerusalem in 2002, Kids4Peace has operated interfaith dialogue and community-based programs in the Middle East, the United States, and Europe, with a particular focus on middle school youth. Throughout the year, our community responded to the dynamics rocking the world. In hospitals and refugee camps, Seeds worked with COVID patients and those made more vulnerable by the pandemic, while across the United States, Seeds organized and led anti-racism protests. The pandemic forced us to cancel some programs and move the rest online. We had to call off the Seeds of Peace Camp in Maine, but in August, we hosted a weeklong virtual camp for dozens of Seeds from 12 delegations that included activities, workshops, and dialogue. Meanwhile, over 130 Seeds and their peers in seven countries attended online Seeds of Peace programming centered around racial justice, racism, and the Black Lives Matter movement. We also held a slate of virtual workshops for youth that explored topics like how to navigate conversations across political divides, use dialogue as a platform for change, and build concrete skills for community activism. And we ran a successful nine-month program for 13 GATHER Fellows. Thanks to the unwavering commitment of our supporters and their belief in our work, we ended the year a stronger organization, poised to resume inperson programs in 2021. Onwards, Fr. Josh Thomas

” OUR MISSION IS TO LOWER THE UNEMPLOYMENT LEVELS AMONGST THE REFUGEE COMMUNITIES. The unemployment level among the refugee communities in the U.K. sits at nearly 18 percent, compared to less than 4 percent for U.K. nationals. Refugees face two major hurdles breaking into the U.K. workforce, including the lack of their local work experience and inability to provide local reference details. To tackle this problem, we offer employment opportunities and work experience to refugees within our business. This helps refugees become “job-ready” and gain key skills to gain employment within their field of interest in the U.K.

I WORK AT THE INTERSECTION OF EDUCATION AND ACTIVISM, BOTH LOCALLY AND GLOBALLY. I want to empower students to make change in their communities through education— through activist teachers. I am a social activist and blogger and founded and developed a web platform to support multicultural relations between Jews and Arabs in three languages (Arabic, English and Hebrew). The goal of the website is to highlight connections that exist today and which otherwise do not receive much attention. The idea is to change the discourse and to influence the importance of dialogue, connections, and partnerships.

” OUR GOAL IS TO BUILD A LONGER TABLE, NOT A TALLER FENCE. I am the founder of Abe’s Eats, a social enterprise that is best known for producing the first-ever Glatt Kosher and Zabihah Halal “Interfaith Meat.” The initiative helps Jewish and Muslim communities across denominations eat from the same plate, while helping food businesses attract new consumers as they save time, inventory space, and food waste with our 2-in-1 approach. Ultimately, I want to use our portfolio of food products as a tool to bring the Jewish and Muslim communities together to effectively tackle the rise in anti-Semitic and anti-Muslim bigotry, while promoting the values of religious diversity within the larger American narrative.

” THE FOCUS OF MY WORK IS MAINLY WOMEN, PARTICULARLY REFUGEES. Inner conflict transformation is the core of my work and is the foundation of transforming wider conflict.

Ignorance and misunderstanding are the main reasons for many conflicts, and this could be even much more complicated if it is intra-personal. Eventually, these inner conflicts that people might not be even aware of could lead to interpersonal conflicts that grow to more and more vicious circles. I’m the founder of “Barah” an Arabic word meaning “vastness.” That is the goal of my work: to help people reach their own inner vastness where they are able to meet their true authentic self.
