Choral Call to Worship

I Sing th’ Almighty Power of God Sanctuary Choir; Dr. Michelle Louer, conductor

arr. Austin Lovelace (1919-2010)

I sing th’ almighty power of God, that made the mountains rise, That spread the flowing seas abroad, and built the lofty skies. I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day; The moon shines full at God’s command, and all the stars obey. I sing the goodness of the Lord, that filled the earth with food; He formed the creatures with his word, and then pronounced them good. Lord, how thy wonders are displayed where’er I turn my eye: If I survey the ground I tread, or gaze upon the sky. There’s not a plant or flower below but makes thy glories known; And clouds arise, and tempests blow, by order from thy throne; While all that borrows life from thee is ever in thy care; And everywhere that we can be, Thou, God art present there. Text: Issac Watts, 1715

* Call to Worship One:

O Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters.

All:

Come, you who have no money, come, buy and eat.

One:

Why do you spend your labor for what does not satisfy?

All:

Incline your ear, and come; listen, that you may live.

One:

Let us worship the God who satisfies the thirsty soul.

LASST UNS ERFREUEN

And everyone of tender heart Forgiving others, take your part. O sing ye! Alleluia! Ye who long pain and sorrow bear, Praise God and cast on God your care! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Prayer of Confession God who sees our frantic lives, we confess we’ve mistaken motion for meaning. We chase the next promotion, the next milestone, the next thing that will finally feel like enough, and it never quite does. We have built impressive lives and still gone home thirsty. Forgive us. Slow us down long enough to ask what we’re actually looking for, and lead us to the water that actually satisfies. In Jesus’ name we pray. (Silent Prayer) Assurance of God’s Grace * Response of Praise

LASST UNS ERFREUEN

All creatures, your Creator bless, And worship God in humbleness. O sing ye! Alleluia! Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son, And praise the Spirit, Three in One! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! * Passing the Peace of Christ * Hymn #92

We Give Thanks to God * Affirmation of Faith Iona Abbey Community

Rev. Michael M. Samson

We believe in God above us, maker and sustainer of all life, of sun and moon, of water and earth, of male and female. We believe in God beside us, Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, born of a woman, servant of the poor, tortured and nailed to a tree. A man of sorrows, he died forsaken. He descended into the earth to the place of death. On the third day he rose from the tomb. He ascended into heaven to be everywhere present, and his kingdom will come on earth. We believe in God within us the Holy Spirit of Pentecostal fire, life-giving breath of the church, Spirit of healing and forgiveness, source of resurrection and eternal life. Amen. Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. Invitation to Discipleship and Generosity Offertory

Do you sincerely receive and adopt the essential tenets of the Reformed faith as expressed in the confessions of our church as authentic and reliable expositions of what Scripture leads us to believe and do, and will you be instructed and led by those confessions as you lead the people of God? Will you fulfill your office in obedience to Jesus Christ, under the authority of Scripture, and be continually guided by our confessions? Will you be governed by our church’s polity, and will you abide by its discipline?
