THE KIDS' CLUB: OUR MINISTRY TO CHILDREN & FAMILIES
It's been a wonderful week of exploring and growing through Vacation Bible School! Our children learned that Jesus' light shines in the good and bad times—what a comforting message for all of us!
But why let the fun stop just because VBS is over? The Kids' Club at Second-Ponce welcomes children and parents to nurture their faith lives together through an intentional focus on prayer, Bible stories, music and Scripture. The schedule below shows a typical week of activities, but there are special events all year long like Kids' Club FriYAYs (Parent's Night Out), summer camps, parties and more.
Sundays 9:45 a.m.-Noon | Kids' Club Sunday School and Nursery
Tuesdays 8:30 p.m. Parents Connect Zoom Group
Wednesdays 5 p.m. Fellowship Supper 6 p.m. Kids' Club Activities
Learn more about how Jesus' light shines brightly in our children's ministry at spdl.org/children.
Welcome to worship at Second-Ponce! We hope you find this hour to be joyful and transformative. Our church has something for everyone, and not just on Sundays. During the week, we have special dinners, small groups and Bible studies. Wednesday evenings, we share Fellowship Supper followed by adult discipleship and ageappropriate activities for children and teens. We hope you'll join us! And now that you know a little about us, help us get to know you better by completing the blue or green card located in the pew rack and hand it to a minister or drop it in the offering plate.
HOW TO JOIN
Second-Ponce enthusiastically welcomes you to make a commitment to Christ and our community of faith. At any time during the Hymn of Response, simply walk to the front of the Sanctuary where a member of our ministry team will greet you with warmth and joy. If you're uncomfortable being "in the spotlight," but still want to join–that's ok! Speak with of one our ministers after worship and they'll walk you through an alternative plan.
ADDITIONAL SUNDAY INFORMATION
CHILDCARE
DURING WORSHIP
We love to see children at Second-Ponce, and we have a Kids’ Club area just for them! It's one floor up from the Sanctuary, and our greeters will be happy to show you the way. In the Kids' Club, there’s a nursery and Kids Worship for babies–5th grade. You may take your children to the Kids' Club before the service or, if you prefer, they can stay with you in the Sanctuary for the entire hour or until the Doxology (when kids leave with children's ministry leaders). After worship, pick them up in the Kids’ Club.
SHARING PRAYER REQUESTS
At Second-Ponce, you have a church family who welcomes the opportunity to join you in prayer. Let us know your prayer needs by filling out a request card located on the back of the pew rack. You can drop it in the offering plate or give it to a member of the Second-Ponce ministerial staff after worship.
GIVING AN OFFERING
Your financial support of Second-Ponce allows us to carry out the mission God has for our church. There are giving cards in the pew racks that utilize a QR code for making gifts online. You may also drop your offering in the offering plate.

FELLOWSHIP SUPPER & SPDLU

JUNE 2023 PRAYER FOCUS: PRAYING IN COLOR

Praying in Color is meaningful whether there is brief time available or ample space for silence. Former math professor Sybil MacBeth developed her love of doodling and drawing as a unique path to prayer. She recognized that she could use her love of mathematics to embrace an “artistic display of numbers and symbols,” while doodling. Perhaps the most common method of prayer in the protestant church is with eyes closed. However, the practice of Praying in Color connects one’s eyes, hands and heart. Learn more at www.spdl.org/prayer.
FOR GOOD MEASURE
The busyness of summer can take us away from church activities, and in turn, can lead to a decline in giving. Church ministries and expenses don't take a vacation, so for good measure, we're asking you to make continued giving a summer priority. There are a variety of ways you can set up your gifts to post automatically each month, from setting up a recurring donation to submitting post dated checks to the church office. Learn more at www.spdl.org/give.

BE A MIAMI MISSION TRIP SHAREHOLDER

Second-Ponce is sending a mission team to Miami July 8–15, and they need our support! There are ways you can serve alongside them before and during their trip. Learn more about the opportunities to help "prep, pay and pray" at www.spdl.org/missions.
Below is an excerpt from this week's church blog, On Second Thought. This month, we're sharing updates from our four councils: Discipleship, Missions, Worship and Community.
A disciple of Jesus will also want to reflect the giving nature of Christ, striving to share time, talents, skills, knowledge, and financial resources to reach others and impact the Kingdom of God. The Stewardship Development Team has already met to brainstorm ideas to encourage and empower us to be better stewards of the blessings we’ve been given. In the weeks ahead, look for more information about our summer “For Good Measure” campaign. Giving back in whatever way you can helps you to become more like Christ.
Currently, most of the adult Sunday School classes are studying a unit this month on “Aspects of Discipleship.” If you aren’t taking advantage of studying the Bible with other Christians on Sundays before the worship service, you’re missing out on a wonderful opportunity to deepen your faith as you increase your knowledge of the Savior. You can learn more about Sunday School classes at www.spdl.org/groups.
And if you’re interested in a deeper dive into the Bible, you might consider participating in a course coming in the fall, taught by a seminary professor. We are still working on the details of this course, but the study we offered last year was well attended and enjoyed by those who participated as we explored the four gospels. This year, we are hoping to offer a study of one (or more) of the New Testament epistles.

Wednesday, June 14 | Beginning at 5 p.m. Fellowship Hall | $8/adult; $5/child On the menu: Meatloaf, mac & cheese, vegetable, salad, dessert. After supper, we'll begin The Sacred Journey, a 2-part series related to building community and sharing our stories with one another. Nationwide, the isolation people are feeling points to the truth that we need to be telling our stories to each other and getting to know one another’s faith stories better. Part 1 of this series—led by Karen Harwell—will use art and creativity as an opportunity for story-telling. RSVP for supper by Noon, Monday, June 12 at www.spdl.org/rsvp.
