Greeters and Bible study leaders can help you receive first aid before worship. If you need help during the service, see one of our uniformed officers just outside of the Sanctuary.

CHILDCARE DURING WORSHIP

You may take your children (newborn–5th grade) to the Kids Club before the service or, if you prefer, they can stay with you in the Sanctuary for the entire hour or until the Doxology when kids leave with children's ministry leaders (unless otherwise stated in the Order of Worship). After the service, pick them up in the Kids Club.

JOINING THE CHURCH

Second-Ponce enthusiastically welcomes you to make a commitment to Christ and our community of faith. At any time during the Hymn of Response, simply walk to the front of the Sanctuary where a member of our ministry team will greet you to begin the process. PASTOR SEARCH UPDATE

The Pastor Search Committee continues meeting weekly to identify potential candidates for our next senior pastor. But what is the strategy and process? Committee Chair Sharon Harle shared an update:

What has the committee been up to?

The Committee has spent time developing a formal evaluation process to help determine a candidate's compatibility with SPdL's current reality and hopes for the future. The evaluation was crafted from answers to the pastor search survey along with guidance from various sources available to churches looking for a new pastor.

What happens now that resumes are coming in and you've finished establishing an evaluation process?

We are reviewing resumes and determining initial compatibility. We are just using the information we have on hand, right now. Currently, we are not seeking anything beyond the initial resume and letter of introduction. If you have a candidate in mind, please encourage them or offer to apply on their behalf. You can find the info at spdl.org/pastorsearch.

Once you've initially scored all the applicants, what happens next?

After we've reviewed the resumes and evaluated their compatibility, we will move to the preaching portion of the process and begin watching sermons from potential candidates. Then comes interviews, reference and background checks, etc. So, a lot happens next! And we ask you to keep the committee and our work in your prayers.

WEDNESDAY NIGHTS

WEDNESDAY NIGHT SUMMER BREAK

Fellowship Supper & SPdLU: June and July | Choir Rehearsal: July

Fellowship Supper and SPdLU (adult discipleship) are taking a summer break! We will not meet in June or July. Sanctuary Choir, however, will continue to rehearse as usual through June (last rehearsal before choir summer break is 6/25).

Need an idea for summer adult discipleship?

In 2023, the Discipleship Council led us through A Year of Passionate Prayer in which a new prayer practice was highlighted each month. Consider revisiting the June and July emphases or select another month's focus that piques your interest.

• June: Praying in Color

Praying in Color is meaningful whether there is brief time available or ample space for silence. Former math professor, Sybil MacBeth, developed her love of doodling and drawing as a unique path to prayer. She recognized that she could use her love of mathematics to embrace an “artistic display of numbers and symbols,” while doodling. Perhaps the most common method of prayer in the protestant church is with eyes closed. However, the practice of Praying in Color connects one’s eyes, hands and heart.

• July: Praying the Psalms

Beginning in Psalms Chapter 1, we find guidance to meditate on God, “Blessed is the one … whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on (God’s) law day and night.” How, then, shall we pray? What are the words we use to talk to God? The Psalms teach us guidance. Over the next 31 days, we invite you to pray the Psalms; use a complete Psalm as a prayer or choose snippets of Psalms as brief breath prayers.

Find the handouts for June and July as well as information and material for the rest of the monthly prayer emphases at www.spdl.org/passionate-prayer.

PRAYERS & REQUESTS

PRAY FOR VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Tomorrow begins one of the most fun and rewarding weeks of the year—Vacation Bible School! As a church family, we can pray for the children, families and volunteers as they celebrate the love of Christ through activities, Bible stories, music and friendship. And don't forget to offer a prayer of gratitude for the work, creativity and care of Rev. Allie Osborne, our Minister of Missions and Children's Discipleship. It's going to be a great week!

LOOKING AHEAD

WELCOME

Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon You, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
