CHORAL CALL TO WORSHIP In honor of Black History Month, our February Choral Calls to Worship will be verses from Lift Every Voice and Sing. We invite you to stand and join the choir in song. Stony the road we trod, bitter the chast’ning rod, Felt in the days when hope unborn had died; Yet with a steady beat, have not our weary feet Come to the place for which our fathers sighed? We have come over a way that with tears has been watered. We have come, treading our path thro’ the blood of the slaughtered, Out from the gloomy past, till now we stand at last Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast. HYMN NO. 98

ANTHEM

Dear Lord and Father of Mankind

BENEDICTION

All: The mighty One, God the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting. Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth. Our God comes and does not keep silence, before Him is a devouring fire, and a mighty tempest all around Him. He calls to the heavens above and to the earth, that He may judge His people: "Gather to Me My faithful ones, who made a covenant with Me by sacrifice!" The heavens declare His righteousness, for God Himself is Judge. HYMN NO. 407

PASTORAL PRAYER

Rev. Allie Osborne

Scripture tells us God made humanity from dust and to dust we shall return. Ash Wednesday is a reminder of our mortality and our great need to be redeemed. The Palm Sunday branches, used to make our ashes, are a stark reminder of how quickly shouts of hosanna turn to crucifixion cries. May our observance of Ash Wednesday remind us that we are both dust and in great need. May it also remind us to look to Christ, who overcame death for us, and offers love, grace and redemption for even us dusty ones. Join us as we remember and recommit first to seek Christ during Lent. -Offered by Rev. John Uldrick | Associate Pastor

WORSHIP OF GOD Sunday, February 11, 2024 at 11 a.m. WE'RE "PEOPLE PEOPLE" FOR GUESTS WE HAVEN'T MET YET Welcome to church! Make yourself at home here! Settle in for a transformative and joyful hour of worship. We'd love to be helpful in your faith journey. There's a green card in the pew rack—I'm New Here. Use it to share as much information as you like and drop it in the offering plate. We understand that some people are hesitant to fill out church cards. It's true—a member of our pastoral staff will reach out, but you won't be flooded with calls, emails or requests. Engagement with us will be at your own pace; we just want to know who you are and how we can pray for you. FOR GUESTS WE KNOW & CHURCH MEMBERS Welcome back to church! Your presence is part of what makes Sundays at Second-Ponce so wonderful. If you're a guest who's ready to take the next step or a church member who wants to deepen your involvement, fill out the red pew card—I'm a Regular—and drop it in the offering plate. Let us know how we can help.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION EVERYONE IS AN "INSIDER" AT SPDL We're sharing definitions of a few words and visuals you may encounter today. • Councils: Our congregational leadership structure is divided into four councils named after each of our core values: Community, Discipleship, Missions and Worship. • Doxology: The Doxology is a short hymn of praise. We use it as transition music when children leave the Sanctuary for Kids Worship. • FriYAY: Several times a year, our Kids' Club meets on a Friday evening to have fun as a group and give parents a night out. We call it FriYAY because everyone is excited to participate! • Invocation: The first prayer of a worship service invoking the spirit of God to be with us as we worship. • Prime Timers: Our vibrant senior adult ministry • SPdL: An abbreviation for Second-Ponce de Leon. We pronounce it "Spee-duhl." • SPdLU: SPdLU—Second-Ponce de Leon University—is our Wednesday night time of adult discipleship where we study relevant topics or books of the Bible. CHILDCARE DURING WORSHIP We love to see children at Second-Ponce, and we have a Kids’ Club area just for them! It's one floor up from the Sanctuary, and our greeters will be happy to show you the way. In the Kids' Club, there’s a nursery and Kids Worship for babies–5th grade. You may take your children to the Kids' Club before the service or, if you prefer, they can stay with you in the Sanctuary for the entire hour or until the Doxology (when kids leave with children's ministry leaders). After worship, pick them up in the Kids’ Club. HOW TO JOIN Second-Ponce enthusiastically welcomes you to make a commitment to Christ and our community of faith. At any time during the Hymn of Response, simply walk to the front of the Sanctuary where a member of our ministry team will greet you with warmth and joy. If you're uncomfortable being "in the spotlight," but still want to join–that's ok! Speak with one of our ministers after worship and they'll walk you through an alternate plan.
