WELCOME, DR. PAUL BAXLEY Second-Ponce enthusiastically welcomes Dr. Paul Baxley, the newly named executive coordinator of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Prior to joining the CBF Global staff in Decatur, Ga., he served as senior pastor of First Baptist Church, Athens, Ga. A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., Paul was ordained in 1993 by his home church of First Baptist Church on Fifth. He and his wife, Jennifer, a licensed physical therapist, have four children: Olivia (age 17), Maria (age 11) and twins Caroline and Matthew (ages 8).

STEWARDSHIP AS "WITNESS PROTECTION" Each October, we focus on the discipleship practice of stewardship and committed giving. Pledging is one of the most hopeful acts of the church because it gives us permission to continue our ministries and consider new possibilities. Stewardship is our "witness protection." We ask you to be in prayer for your own giving and for our efforts as a church family as we seek to fulfill God's mission in Buckhead and beyond.
BE STILL AND KNOW: 2020 SPdL WOMEN'S RETREAT February 21–23 | Pinnacle Retreat Center | Clayton, GA | Cost: $160 (includes your two-night stay, four meals & all materials) When the "success" of our day is often measured by the pace of our productivity, what practical tools can we use to quiet our souls? The Inviting and Teaching Teams invite you to escape the noise at our 2020 retreat. This girls' getaway is a chance for us to share, learn, explore, rest and, of course, have fun! AN EVEN BETTER NEIGHBOR Recently, Dock Hollingsworth and Heather Webb met with the Garden Hills Administration Team again to continue discussing additional ways for Second-Ponce to support the work that is going on there. Below are some of the many ways our partnership with GHES will continue to grow in the coming months.
Adopt a Classroom: Second-Ponce will be adopting two classes this year at Garden Hills. We will share resources and volunteer with them in the hopes of meeting needs, improving student learning and encouraging teachers. If you would like to help plan and implement this new project, email Heather Webb at hwebb@spdl.org. Everybody Wins “Power Lunch” Reading Buddies: We currently have five folks from Second-Ponce serving as Reading Buddies during lunch this year at Garden Hills. They are doing such a great job that the school would love more volunteers from our church. The reading is done in the auditorium, so you don’t have to compete with a loud lunchroom. Teacher Encouragement Gifts & School Supplies: Our WMU made encouragement bags for teachers and supply boxes for the two classes we are adopting this year.
