Happy New Year
Sharing the purpose, peace & community that comes from faith in God
January 1, 2020
Then they said to each other, “What we’re doing is not right. This is a day of good news and we are keeping it to ourselves. If we wait until daylight, Have you punishment will overtake us. Let’s go at once and report this to the royal invited your II Kings 7:9 palace.” This is a day of good news; Happy New Year! We have a blank calendar full of promise at Second-Ponce and this is the year when we commit to not keeping the good news to ourselves. We have just celebrated life together over the holidays. We were in each other’s homes and together at Christmas parties at church. We sang the holiday songs of our faith and reminded each other that the Christ child has made all the difference. This is a day of good news! Because of our faith and our church community, our lives have a depth and texture and purpose that so many people ache for. I watch folks on Marta or scurrying through the mall and I wonder, “Do they have any purpose beyond more stuff?” You and I share in the good news of Christ’s coming and the ongoing gift of a church to learn and grow and love with. The II Kings passage says, “This is a day of good news and we are keeping it to ourselves.” I hope that is not true of us. I hope this year we will be aggressively inviting others to church and to relationship with Christ. Every person we know wants purpose, peace, and community. Are we keeping it to ourselves? This year let’s work together to make sure the good news gets reported. Blessings to all of you this New Year!
