EVENTS IN THE

LENTEN SEASON

The Lenten season begins next week, February 26, with Ash Wednesday and runs until Easter Sunday, April 12. During this time, Second-Ponce is offering a variety of opportunities to walk closer with Jesus and with each other as we journey to the cross. WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 26

ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE 6:15 p.m. | Chapel Begin the season of Lent with a worship service on Ash Wednesday. We will have our regular supper in the Fellowship Hall at 5 p.m. and then move to the Chapel for a time of worship and imparting of ashes. Dock Hollingsworth will preach Heart Transplant and look at the “right posture” to begin Lent. Don’t miss this meaningful service that starts our journey to the cross.

SUNDAY MARCH 1 MARCH 1

SPECIAL MUSIC FROM MERCER SINGERS 11 a.m. | Sanctuary The Mercer University Singers will be leading our 11 a.m. worship service through music on this special Sunday.

WEDNESDAY MARCH 4

LENTEN SPdLU SERIES "Jesus’ Passion Week as Depicted in Famous Religious Paintings" 6 p.m. | Fellowship Hall | With Dr. Dock Hollingsworth • 3/4: The Last Supper by Leonardo daVinci • 3/11: The Agony in the Garden by Fra Angelico • 3/18: Ecce Homo by Caravaggio • 3/25: Christ Crucified by Diego Velazquez • 4/1: The Dead Christ Mourned by Annibale Carracci

SUNDAY APRIL 5

PALM SUNDAY 11 a.m. | Sanctuary & 4 p.m. | SPdL Theater We welcome the arrival of Jesus with a special service on Palm Sunday. Our children will process into the Sanctuary waving palms and we’ll share the Lord’s Supper as a church family.

WEDNESDAY APRIL 8

HOLY WEDNESDAY SERVICE 6:15 p.m. | Chapel Our worship in the Chapel will focus our hearts on the passion of Jesus. Just as the symbol of a cross of ashes helped us to begin the season of Lent in a Wednesday night worship service, the symbol of the Lord’s Supper will be the way that we observe this last Wednesday night in Lent.

FRIDAY APRIL 10

COMMUNITY GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE Noon | Wieuca Road Baptist Church Join with other congregations from the Buckhead area for this annual Good Friday worship service. This year’s homily will be shared by Dr. Rich Kannwischer, senior pastor of Peachtree Church.

SUNDAY APRIL 12

EASTER SUNDAY 11 a.m. | Sanctuary & 4 p.m. | SPdL Theater Our Lenten journey to the cross comes to an end with the glorious celebration of the resurrection. Please join us for Bible study and worship on Easter Sunday as we rejoice in the fact that life conquers death and hope overcomes despair! We ask each household to bring flowers for placing on our cross that will be on display in our Sanctuary. After 11 a.m. worship, we'll gather as a church family at the North Bridge flower cross to enjoy lemonade and fellowship together.
