BLESSING OF THE BACKPACKS Sunday, August 11 | 11 a.m. | Sanctuary Teachers and students of all ages are invited to a blessing of the backpacks during our August 11 worship service. Let us pray for you and your children, youth and college students as we start a new school year. Bring your backpacks and school bags and invite your friends! After the service, join us for Lemonade on the Plaza where we'll enjoy refreshments as a church family.

SECOND-PONCE LIVE Want to include someone in our Blessing of the Backpacks on August 11 who can't be with us in person? Do you have a vacation coming up but don't want to miss worship? Do you know someone who is sick and could benefit from a dose of weekly community? Second-Ponce is now livestreaming our 11 a.m. worship service. Theology is the answer we put together from the Bible to explain life’s problems and questions. How does one faithfully put together his or her theology? How might we guard against creating a “theological box” for God? Join us on Wednesday evenings as we consider these questions from the vantage point of three events in the life of Jesus found in the Gospel according to John.

FALL PREVIEW PICNIC Sunday, September 8 | After worship | SPdL Plaza | Cost: Free Join us for fried chicken and fellowship to kick off a new season of activities and opportunities at Second-Ponce. We’ll provide the main dish, sides and drinks and we’re asking our church family to bring desserts. There’s no program during this lunch, but we’ll share a little about upcoming fall events that we hope you’ll add to your calendar. Come armed with your favorite sweet treat and we’ll see you after worship.

PRAYER WALK Sunday, September 8 | After lunch

What if each chair you sat in had been prayed over? What about each place you visit or all the ministries of our church? September 8, we will purposefully and deliberately pray for all that takes place on the SPdL campus as we “walk” the halls of our church. Come pray for our new All Together worship, children’s, youth and music ministries, our staff and teachers, the Preschool and Family Life Center, among others.

When you finish lunch, drop by the information table on the plaza and pick up a short guide to prayer then follow the signs to begin. If you cannot stay, pick up a prayer guide on your way home and throughout the week, voice your prayers for our ministries. EXPLORING THE OLD TESTAMENT Tuesdays | September 10, 17, 24, October 1, 8 & 15 | 6:30–8:30 p.m.

Cost: $100/person plus books (scholarships available) Have you ever wanted to take a college or seminary-level class about the Bible or go deeper into areas of Christian faith? Exploring the Old Testament is a six-week course taught by Dr. Colin Harris, professor emeritus of religious studies at Mercer. She can provide you with a syllabus for the course and with textbook information.

Second-Ponce's commitment to being salt and light in our community has birthed a new opportunity to connect people to the love of God. Each Sunday, at 4 p.m., we'll host a new worship expression that we're calling All Together, a name deeply rooted in double meaning—It supports how this service blends worshiping God, building community and embracing diversity, and it reflects how we, as a church family, are committed to the common purpose of sharing the hope of Christ with a hurting world. The service atmosphere may be different from our 11 a.m. offering, but the goal is still the same—to worship a living God through scripture, music and message. If you'd like a second helping of Sunday worship or know of a family, student or group looking for an afternoon service opportunity, All Together might be the answer. Come check it out and help spread the word that Second-Ponce has something for everyone!

The busyness of school and fall activities make us think that our children and families could use a little fun! Friday, September 27, we are hosting a Parent's Night Out & Kid's Club party. WE'RE GROWING! Need a new book for a little weekend reading? "Call Stories" by Barry Howard features personal accounts of God's nudge to pastoral ministry from some familiar names including Dock Hollingsworth, David Hull, Jane Hull, Emily Hull McGee (David and Jane's daughter), David and Matt Sapp and Bill Wilson (Ryan Wilson's dad).
