Community Impact Report July 1, 2022 - June 30, 2023

A Message from Linda

On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff, I am proud to share with you Second Helpings’ 2022-2023 Community Impact Report! As we reflect on the last year, I continue to be blown away by all that we’ve accomplished together, thanks to your support. It is an honor and a privilege to steward this organization at this point in our history. This year there was much to celebrate: Second Helpings delivered 10% more meals between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023 than we did in the previous year. I am grateful that our number of volunteer hours served also grew 9% over the last year, which made it possible to meet the growing need for food in our community. Thank you. We re-designed our Culinary Job Training program, increasing retention by 11% over pre-pandemic years.

In 2023 we celebrated our 25th anniversary and all that our volunteers helped us to achieve in the last quarter of a century. Thank YOU for making all of this work possible. This year was also spent looking towards the future, as we developed our next strategic plan, which will guide our work for the next three years. Our team has been very reflective about how we do our work and how we can be the best servants to community members who need us most. As we look forward to the road ahead this next year and beyond, I look forward to continuing this critical work together. Thank you.

With gratitude, Linda Broadfoot CEO of Second Helpings

CJT

We had a Diverse Pool of 23 Culinary Job Training Graduates this Year. Who is a Culinary Job Training student? After bouncing back from the COVID-19 pandemic, our Culinary Job Training (CJT) program was restructured to better serve our students and the culinary industry. In the eight months of operations this year, 23 students graduated from this program. There’s no “average” CJT student—our students come from all walks of life and backgrounds, brought together by a desire to build a culinary career to support themselves and their families. Hunger Relief

We Delivered 10% More Meals than Last Year. Let’s see where they went and who got them.

Legend:

The need for meals in our community continues to grow. Second Helpings meals represent nearly $13 million in community food cost savings. With those savings, our partners can focus on their mission without sacrificing the ability to provide a nutritious, healthy meal to the people they serve.
