RIAH MIXED-USE YEAR: 2023 LOCATION: TIJUANA, MX TYPE: ACADEMIC INSTRUCTOR: DANIEL RUBIO

The concept arises from the unrestricted exploration of human interaction within the urban environment, moving away from the dominance of vehicles. By carefully considering the disposition of spaces and employing captivating visual elements, we generate an environment that inspires and engages its occupants, enhancing their overall experience.

4

It envisions a space that not only meets the functional requirements but also stimulates the senses and instills a sense of wonder and delight. Each element and aspect of the design is carefully curated to create a cohesive and immersive experience, fostering a vibrant and inspiring urban atmosphere.

The use of high ceilings in public spaces is crucial for creating a sense of openness, grandeur, and a welcoming atmosphere. It enhances air circulation, allows for better lighting, and can improve acoustics in places like museums or cathedrals. In contrast, reducing ceiling heights in private spaces like homes or offices promotes intimacy, comfort, and a feeling of privacy. This contrast between high and low ceilings in public and private spaces is key to shaping our emotional responses and overall well-being in these environments.

STRUCTURAL SUBDIVISIONS ART GALLERY, CRAFTING AND PAINTING CLASSES YEAR: 2022 LOCATION: BOSTON, US TYPE: DESIGN DISCOVERY PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR: SAM H. SHEFFER

Throughout the Design Discovery Program at Harvard Graduate School of Design, my interest in natural form buildings was sparked, and I became fascinated with exploring how we can adapt these architectural designs into our daily lives without disrupting the existing urban fabric or causing an inconvenience to people.

However, there is a growing recognition of the benefits that natural forms can offer in terms of aesthetics, sustainability, and overall well-being. Natural forms in architecture draw inspiration from organic shapes found in nature, such as curves, flowing lines, and biomimetic structures.

Traditional buildings often feature straight lines and rigid structures, which have their own advantages in terms of efficiency and functionality.

Massing Model One Piece

Studying Mos's House No.10, I drew inspiration from its interior patio for my current project. The seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces fascinated me, and I aimed to replicate this harmony. Additionally, Wacius Wong's book on Radiation guided my design process. I focused on strategically placing openings and choosing materials to manipulate light, aligning with Wong's principles. The resulting project revolves around a central interior patio, influenced by House No.10, while incorporating Wong's radiative concepts. The objective is to create a space that is both functional and aesthetically compelling, where light and form converge to offer a unique architectural experience.

ANIMAL RESCUE CENTER ANIMAL SHELTER YEAR: 2022 LOCATION: TIJUANA, MX TYPE: ACADEMIC INSTRUCTOR: ESTEBAN DEL AGUILA

This shelter aims to address the growing issue of street animals in Tijuana, and provide them with the care and attention they deserve. It will not only offer essential medical services like surgeries but also ensure a safe and comfortable environment for these animals to rest and recuperate. Hygiene will be a top priority to maintain the health and well-being of the animals, and there will be designated areas where they can engage in playful activities, allowing them to enjoy a better quality of life.

22

The goal is to make a positive impact on the community by addressing the issue of street animals and promoting responsible pet ownership. The shelter will offer adoption opportunities for those who are interested in providing a loving and permanent home for these animals. By adopting a pet, the community will gain a loyal companion, but also, they will be contributing to the solution of the street animal problem in the city.

SUNSET WOODS TINY HOUSE YEAR: 2021 LOCATION: BIG BEAR, US TYPE: COMPETITION

In designing a tiny house for two, my project focuses on a minimalist approach, emphasizing essential living spaces and a strong connection to nature. The centerpiece is a striking monumental rock seamlessly integrated into the structure. Glass walls surround the tiny dwelling, erasing the boundaries between inside and outside and providing sweeping views of the natural surroundings.

32

The interior is thoughtfully designed for efficiency and comfort, with a compact kitchen, cozy living area, and a snug sleeping nook. Sustainable materials and smart storage solutions maximize the use of space, ensuring the tiny house meets all daily living needs. This project aims to create a harmonious retreat that celebrates simplicity and a deep connection to the natural world, offering a unique and fulfilling living experience for two.

FRAMING SPACES DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY YEAR: 2022 LOCATION: SAN DIEGO, US CAMERA: NIKON D780 LENS: NIKON AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D

My photography is a heartfelt passion that allows me to convey my unique perspective on the world. Composition is at the core of my photographic artistry, where I meticulously arrange elements within each frame to tell a story, evoke emotion, and capture the essence of a moment. Whether it’s the interplay of light and shadow, the framing of subjects, or the use of leading lines, I use composition as a powerful tool to create visually captivating images that resonate with viewers on a profound level.

My love for exploring different textures adds depth and tactile richness to my photography, inviting viewers to not only see but also feel the world as I experience it. From the rugged textures of nature to the smooth surfaces of urban landscapes, I find endless inspiration in the diverse textures that surround us, enhancing the storytelling capacity of my work.

VISUAL ARTS PAINTING YEAR: 2020 TYPE: ACRYLIC PAINTING CAMERA: NIKON D780 LENS: NIKON AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D

During the whole Covid mess, I stumbled into this cool hobby of painting with acrylics. It was like a therapy I didn’t know I needed. Being stuck at home, I found myself experimenting with all sorts of textures and techniques, turning my living room into a makeshift art studio. Modern contemporary art became my jam, and each canvas turned into a playground for my feelings and imagination.

44

But you know what took it up a notch? Gold laminated everything. Yep, I got a bit fancy with it. There’s just something about that touch of gold that adds a whole new vibe to my creations. So here I am, turning boredom into something beautiful, one acrylic masterpiece at a time.
