AKA CHIPP PROVIDES WEEKEND AND HOLIDAY MEALS FOR CHILDREN WITHIN LOCAL COMMUNITIES AND IS TARGETED TO BE ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA’S MOST
AMBITIOUS CHILDHOOD HUNGER PROGRAM TO DATE.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® (AKA) is the first Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women, founded in 1908 at Howard University. With over 1,000 chapters worldwide, AKA remains steadfast in its commitment to service, scholarship, and sisterhood, empowering communities through innovative programs and initiatives.
The Delta Upsilon Omega Chapter in Seattle, founded in 1945, is dedicated to enhancing the community through initiatives focused on education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and environmental sustainability. Our endeavors encompass various projects, such as backing Black-owned enterprises, organizing events like the Annual Library Tea, distributing power packs to alleviate child hunger, and granting scholarships to female high school students.
Our sisterhood is committed to supporting CHIPP through fundraising campaigns We need over $500 to supply 100 bags.
We place a strong emphasis on the type of food included in each bag, striving to ensure that every power pack contains nutrient-rich and satisfying options Moreover, we carefully calculate the portion sizes to ensure that there is enough food to last an entire weekend
Our team convenes on the 2nd Saturday of each month to assemble at least 100 power packs. We purchase snacks in bulk from Costco and create an assembly line with concise instructions outlining the appropriate quantity of items for each pack.
On the following Monday, we will drop off the CHIPP power packs to Rainier View Elementary. They are distributed in the students lockers after lunch
Rainier View Elementary School is a public school located in Seattle, WA, which is in a large city setting. The student population of Rainier View Elementary School is 245 and the school serves PK 5
The school’s minority student enrollment.
The school enrolls 53 economica disadvantaged student
We want to focus on providing nutiritous meals for these bright young minds. We split our shopping list in to breakfast and lunch.
We provide each bag with:
2 packs of oatmeal
2 Nutri-Grain bars
1 fruit snack (i.e. applesauce)
2 cans of vegetables
2 instant meals (i.e. box of mac & cheese, cup-o-soup, ramen noodles
2 snacks (i.e. beef stick, popcorn)
To fulfill their commitment, the CHIPP committee assembles 100 bags monthly, hosted by committee chairs who post online signups for RSVPs. Bags are packed into Costco boxes for Monday drop-off at the principal's office and distributed to each child's locker.

On Sunday, December 10th, we welcomed the community to an exclusive private screening of The Color Purple! Thanks to the generous donations, we were able to extend our CHIPP program through the Spring.

EACH NOVEMBER, WE HOST A GAME NIGHT AND SOLICIT CONTRIBUTIONS FROM THE COMMUNITY. ITEMS ARE PROCURED THROUGH AN AMAZON WISHLIST.
