Happy Fall! We head into my favorite season with the golf course in great shape for some of our busiest months and lots of great things in the works. My letter earlier in August outlined some of the items we are trying to get approved and budgeted. We will keep you updated on these and others as we move toward the end of the year.
One of the things we are doing is adding 3 tons of new material to the tennis courts with a better regular maintenance schedule to improve court quality. We also have consultants coming to help with potential upgrades and equipment enhancements at both fitness facilities.
Tee times and course closures are always a topic of our surveys and general discussions among our Membership. We want to remind you, our Members, that you can make a tee time up to 30 days in advance for up to two foursomes. Public play may not make a tee time until 14 days in advance. We know that we cannot conceivably get everyone the perfect tee time on the right day, so please make sure to consult the Club event calendar published at the beginning of the year for dates and events that may interfere with your plans.
We will also update as far in advance as possible additions or subtractions from the calendar. Upcoming Member events include Ladies Member-Guest, October 17-18, Men’s Weekday Member-Guest, October 21, Georgia Senior Open, October 24-25, and Georgia-Florida weekend,October 27-29.
The course will be closed for maintenance and overseeding November 7-11. This is an adjustment to the original dates. Please make your plans accord will gladly assist if you need help with alternate courses or t

The dog days of summer are seemingly behind us, and the Sea Palms agronomy team is beginning preparation for the Fall season and over-seeding of all tees, fairways, collars, and approaches. This will be the first year since 2019 that we aren't over-seeding the greens. Non-over-seeded greens will allow us to have quick and consistent greens throughout the season.
As winter approaches, we will push for continued improvement in turf density and overall quality of the turf stand. This will include cultural practices such as frequent light topdressing of greens and tees and verticutting of greens to increase smoothness and playability of greens.
As the growth of grass slows down, scattering cart traffic will greatly help to protect the turf throughout the winter months allowing for a healthier start to the growing season in 2023.
As always, help protect playing conditions by:
Filling divots
Raking bunkers
Scattering cart traffic
Keeping carts on paths at tees and greens
Obeying daily cart traffic indicators

Our first Family Bingo could not have gone any better! We had over 100 people in attendance and from our 8 rounds of bingo we had 12 winners who won gift cards to McDonald's, Chic-fil-a, Island Cinema Movie Theater, Whippersnappers Toy Store as well as certificates for a complimentary appetizer at Sago, Wine & Design class or Children's Night. Our host, Bonita Tanner, did a fantastic job hosting not just traditional bingo, but also a lively round of Disney Music bingo. Thank you to all the members and guest who came and participated in our evening of family fun. We look forward to seeing you at bingo again soon!
We are excited to share that two of our Sea Palms members, Robyn Barnhardt and John Stamp, are both published authors and will be hosting book signings this quarter at Sea Palms. The first will be for Robyn's book, "See Life Through Rose-Colored Glasses", on October 11 from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Cypress Room.
Robyn Barnhardt is a freelance writer and artist, who resides in South Georgia. Her passions include her family, friends, making everything beautiful, reading, writing, laughing, using movie quotes in normal conversation, and living a life of intention.
Initially, she considered writing a juicy, Southern, novel. Having been born and raised in the South, God knows she had the material for it. But no matter how hard she tried to change names and scenarios to protect the guilty, she decided that in the end, she would rather be on speaking terms with her friends and family. Because that’s the kind of person she is. Nonconfrontational.
A self-described introvert and armchair therapist, you are likely to find her in the kitchen or bathroom during a fabulous party, discussing the meaning of life with the wait staff. Connection, over idle chit-chat, is always her preference.
Though not a “professional authority” on anything, she has discovered a way of looking at life that is too good to keep to herself. So, she decided to write this book instead. Now she can hand the book out at parties and let the wait staff get back to work. Most days, you can find her appreciating her view of life on Saint Simons Island, Georgia, with her wonderful husband and two amazing children.
Our next book signing will be for John Stamp and his latest novel, "Blood Red Ivory", on Tuesday, November 15 from 5:30-7 p.m.
John Stamp served as a Special Agent with both the NCIS and FBI. He was also a Police Officer in Charleston, South Carolina. He is a native of the Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York and holds a master's degree in Forensic Science from the University of Florida.
John has written seven novels and hosts the “That’s Criminal with John Stamp Podcast.”
To learn more about John's novels and podcast, scan the QR codes below with your camera phone.
We have so many events lined up for you and the whole family to enjoy, so get your calendars ready.
Lighting on Saturday, November 26. Listen to music by a local choir while enjoying complimentary coffee, hot chocolate, and cookies. Children, have your Christmas list ready for your visit with Santa and Mrs. Clause!
Every Saturday from November 26 to December 17 children may visit the clubhouse to decorate and take home their own gingerbread house. Children can enjoy hot chocolate and cookies as well as a Christmas movie as they decorate their gingerbread house and get in the holiday spirit.
Sea Palms welcomes back Bonita Tanner as she hosts another fun evening of Family Bingo Saturday, December 10. Tinted Tides Erica Gillman also returns for Children's Night Friday, December 16 to lead the children in making their own Christmas ornaments.
Don't forget about our annual Member Holiday Social on Wednesday, December 21.
