FOR OUR LATEST NEWS

Senior Women celebrate debut

It may have been a pre-season friendly against Seaford United, but Sunday, March 19 marked a special moment in the history of the Mount Martha Soccer Club as our Senior Women’s side took to the field for the first time! Congrats to coach Robin Smith, his support team and all those who played a role in this significant achievement for our club. Check out Robin's column on page 8.

Counting down the days

With just a couple of weeks to go before the season kicks off for the bulk of our teams, I’m writing to give you an update on what is going on before our first matches on April 22-23.

PART 1: 2023 KITS

OUR kits are due to arrive early next week The club will then arrange the numbering of the shirts and making sure that all players get the right size – with nearly 500 players, you’ll appreciate that this is not a straightforward exercise

Our expectation is that, providing there are no further delays in delivery and the numbering process runs smoothly, kits will be ready by around 20 April

Our team managers will be contacting their teams to ask players/parents to nominate the size of their playing shirt, shorts and socks so we can bundle up the right sizes for the right teams

A sizing chart has been provided for your convenience (socks are based on shoe size), so please measure your child before nominating the preferred size

going through a significant growth phase If your child unexpectedly grows out of their kit between this season and the next, don’t worry, we can replace their kit next year.

Noting the very tight timeframes, we have been thinking about what we will do if anything goes wrong

PART 2: SQUAD

AT the time of writing, we will shortly have 36 teams confirmed across all age groups, from Under 6s through to Over 35s

In the absence of Technical Directors covering all age groups, the Executive and Committee has had to step in to help finalise some of our teams

There is always juggling of players because we try to create an environment where everyone can play, but we understand it can be disconcerting if your team has too few or too many players this close to the start of the season.

The principles that we ’ re applying are in our Selection Policy We aim to have like-minded players of similar ability, playing at the right level for their age and skills.

ORGANISATION

It is the club's intent that, by balancing the teams and playing at the right level, it will provide an environment for the players to develop their abilities, and, in doing so, their enjoyment of the game of soccer.

Most teams have a confirmed Coach and Team Manager Olivia (our Registrar) has been chasing up details for these volunteers and ensuring that everyone is registered with Football Victoria and has a Working With Children Check

The WWCC is critical – we have obligations to Football Victoria and to Mornington Peninsula Shire Council under our licence agreement that relevant volunteers have one, so please follow this up urgently if you haven’t done so.

FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK With Rhys Piper

For those teams that are still settling their Coach and Team Manager arrangements, please be assured that the Executive and I are working through these final arrangements. Our Team Manager Coordinator, Katie, gave an excellent presentation to Team Managers recently I will be giving a similar presentation to Coaches on April 17 (details to be confirmed).

• And please note that it’s not too late to become a sponsor of the club Please let me know if you ' re able to assist us with sponsorship.

A (complete) step in the right direction

We're fortunate to have a range of engaged sponsors that support the club in different ways, like Complete Step Podiatry & Footwear Specialists. Recently, our Girls’ and Women’s SubCommittee head Shelley Christie led a band of GO Soccer Mums and O35players to their premises.

“George and Phil spoke about how to take care of our feet during the soccer season, before and after, about bone density, injuries, recovery times and wearing the right type of footwear,” Shelley told us.

SENIOR WOMEN'S REPORT With Robin Smith

March has been a month of many firsts for our Senior Women’s Team First practice match, first goal and first win with a 5-2 victory over Chelsea in our final official practice match on Sunday, April 2

Not only did the team record a very strong performance, we were also able to debut a trio of Under-18 players for their first taste of Senior football.

I’m also pleased to announce that the team voted for Indie Jowett and Steph Calvert to be the first co-captains of our team Congratulations to Indie and Steph who, I know, will do an amazing job.

This first season has always been about more than results on the pitch. It’s also about ensuring the senior team have a connection with the club’s entire female program

I wanted to acknowledge the work that Zoe Richards, Misha Campbell, Sofia Floris, Alex Tepaske, Jas Parkinson and Meredith Read are doing to help develop the next generation of MMSC senior female players.

League debut

The start of the season is barely two weeks away and I know that all of the players and coaches can’t wait for our inaugural season to begin

Thanks to everyone who has come along to watch the team play, we look forward to seeing you all on game days.

Roller-coaster ride in opening two games

SENIOR MEN'S PLAYER OF THE MONTH (MARCH)

DEZZY ELLIOTT

On the pitch, a clean sheet in the season opener and a string of extraordinary saves in the second game. Off the pitch, a constant example to the group in the way he trains and commits to the club.

RESERVE MEN'S PLAYER OF THE MONTH (MARCH) MARCUS PODA

OUR State League 5 South campaign could not have started any better with wins for both the Senior and Reserve sides

Thank you to Cheree and everyone at the club who put on a great day and to everyone who came down to cheer the lads on!

A comfortable 3-0 victory was everything for which we could have hoped in the season opener round 1 against a typically physical Bunyip & District outfit

From the opening to final whistle our boys gave their all and executed everything we have discussed during the pre-season It was superb seeing it all come together and team working so well

Unfortunately, we came crashing back to earth in round 2 with disappointing results at Hampton Park, where both sides lost to superior opposition

We have lots to learn from both games but on this occasion we were outclassed and out played by a team expected to challenge for the title

With a bye and Easter coming up, we now have two weeks to regroup and get back to winning ways against Barton United

Later in April we play back-toback derbies against Mt Eliza (home) and then Rosebud (away, Friday night game) which will both be big tests for the group for us to see where we currently sit within the division.

We look forward to hosting as many members of the MMSC family as possible at our games!

Many hands make light work

You may have noticed that the supply of mini-goals in our storage shed is again close to capacity. That's thanks to the crew of volunteers who attended our latest working bee at Mace Oval to repair these essential elements of club infrastructure. Best of all, it was great to see so many new faces helping out. Thanks to all who assisted.
