Night Specialty with Seahawks Scuba The adventure of scuba diving nether ends with the sunset nor limits to poor visibility of lakes and quarry. Night diving lets you spot things that are not visible during the day such as Lobsters, Sea urchins, and many more. On the other hand, diving in the night gives you the thrill of a new adventure filled with a fresh experience of exploring the new dark planet just beneath the surface.

This specialty prepares you with in-depth information on the necessary equipment, skills, and knowledge. The techniques and experience from the course increase your ability to the next level so that you can dive with a buddy during the night or in limited visibility conditions anywhere.

What is the difference between Night and Limited Visibility Diving?

It does not matter how familiar you are with a dive site. It becomes another world and presents the contrast of dark water with colourful spectacular creatures glowing at the point of your dive light.One can see some creatures sleeping while others are awake.

Mostly the crustaceans like crab, lobster, and freshwater crayfish.

They keep hunting and feeding around at night. On the other hand. The parrotfish and a few more sleep under the ledges of the reef. The coral polyps are living creatures inside the hard outer shell of the reef. They extend their feeding tentacles for collecting food in the dark at night. Another entertaining sight is bioluminescence. That is emitted by tiny organisms that glow after turning off your dive light during the night dive.

Night Diving in Andaman

Even though scuba diving in Andaman offers crystal clear visibility. But limited visibility is widely experienced by scuba divers around the world for many reasons. Such condition limits your diving ability being an open water diver and resists you from having fun during your diving days. Your instructor prepares you with all the knowledge, skills, and a few special tricks to handle a limited visibility condition.

Your instructor teaches how to navigate, how to use dive lite, how to maintain a buddy system, and how to signal during the night or limited vision scuba diving situation. Mostly all the shipwrecks and kelp forest beds present this type of condition. But they do offer amazing facts about marine life underwater, which are irresistible for a scuba diver to dive there even if the visibility is limited.

Night Diving Equipment Every specialised diving activity needs specialised equipment and training. The night and limited visibility diving require diving lights, diver’s tools, and compasses. These are a few pieces of primary equipment used by experienced scuba divers during night dives.

You will be using three types of underwater lights on a night dive. 1. primary, 2.secondary, and 3.locator light (divers/groups/entry/exits). We also have a variety of accessory lights.

Each one has a particular application during scuba diving in Havelock.

Diving lights

1.You are going to use the primary light during the particular dive 2. The secondary light is your backup light, and you use it if the primary light shuts down.

3. The locator light has many uses, such as every diver can attach the locator light to their body to easily locate each other. One can mark the entry and exit points with the locator lights and so on.

The underwater lights are valuable pieces of equipment for restoring colour and light at depth during the daytime. When we start descending through limited visibility, the sunlight starts disappearing, and at some point, it becomes very dark due to the suspended particles.

Which not only blocks the sun’s ability to penetrate the water but your vision too. All the colours disappear in a predictable sequence. Usually red disappears in the first 3-4.5 meters. Orange and yellow disappear within 9-18 meters. Green is the last, that disappears at around 18-27 meters.

Light absorption

When you dive deeper than 18 meters, everything appears blue or black due to lighter colours such as yellow disappears, and they become pale and off-white. The diving light plays a vital role to restore the colour surrounding you and presents an enjoyable diving experience.

Preparing for Your Night Dive and Limited Visibility Dives.

There are three major steps while preparing for any night dives and limited visibility dives.

1. Making a proper plan for the night and limited visibility dive is highly recommended.

2. A complete description of how to prepare your buddy and your Total Diving System for a night or limited visibility dive.

3. The most crucial part is to monitor the dive site before your dive.
