Introduction and discussion We believe in meet and greet techniques, By having a general introduction of ourselves and enquiring about you and your backgrounds, like an icebreaker to put you at ease.

Prior to the start of any course, we brief you about the requisite paperwork and where your signatures are required. We ensure that all the paperwork has been completed. You require filling registration form, privacy policy, divers code, medical questionnaire, liability release and any other course specific paper work as per standards. Course completion record is provided but we would like you to sign only after completion of the sessions. At our office we do assist you in filling up the paperwork as well as clarify any doubts or questions about the paperwork. You need to register with SSI online and downloaded the app, so that you can download the required course materials to read the academics.

Learn to Dive

Gaining knowledge is the key to perform safe scuba diving in Andaman We would like to know what do you think about diving safety and we do a general discussion Based on your answer. If we follow the rules and standards set globally by Scuba School International to perform scuba diving, it should be an extremely safe and rewarding experience. The golden rule are NEVER HOLD YOUR BREATH. Ascend slowly, don’t dive beyond your limits. We introduce the concept of buoyancy and the effects of changing pressure underwater which leads us to equalisation. After demonstration of the Valsalva technique, We do insist you to try the technique to equalise. One should not blow too hard to feel their ears pop. We would like you to know about the underwater environment and few good diving practices like don’t touch anything, try to avoid flailing your arms etc. The SSI Digital learning is free and here you start learning from today about scuba diving technique, important theories and best standards/rules to follow.

Breathing through the regulator

Skills to learn and their use for scuba diving There are 20 skills to practice in order to gain control, stability as well as your safety while scuba diving in Andaman. You need to master these skills by performing them repetitively in confined water sessions. These skills helps you to become comfortable and confident too. Lets go through few of the skills listed in the instructor manual and wet notes as well as their examples of practical situations where you can these skills.

Regulator retrieval: In a low visibility situation, someone might pull your hose of the regulator by accident. In this situation you need to retrieve the regulator and put it back in your mouth so that you can resume breathing and continue diving. Also you need to remove the water from the regulator ( it gets filled with water when out of your mouth ) before you start breathing from it.There are two techniques to remove water from the regulator 1. Purge method 2.Blow method and two techniques to retrieve it 1. Swipe method and 2. Reach method.

Mask clearing practise

Mask clearing: Since we all have a habit of breathing through the mouth by birth, which lets our nose try breathing unintentional and that causes a suction to get water in the musk. If you have a beard sometimes the skirting of the mask can’t form a seal and that causes water filling up your mask too. Even though the technique to clear water from your mask is very easy but many people find it very difficult to perform. Just simply take a deep breathe and start breathing out a bit forcefully through your nose while looking up. Trust me it is very easy.

Alternate Air source breathing

Alternate Air source breathing: If you run out of air during your dive or if your primary regulator gets choked, You survive using the alternate air source of your buddy.

Which is why we never dive alone, Remember you should always dive in a 4/7

buddy system with your buddy. You need to grab your buddy attention and signal him that you are out of air. Get the alternate regulator of your buddy and resume breathing along with start ascending upon your buddies signal while scuba diving.

The way we perform scuba diving at Havelock Island. While a confined water session, We demonstrate all the skills as slowly as possible so that you can understand them exactly, But you should do the skills as per your peace and can take your time. If you have an issue, we are right there to solve any problems underwater without surfacing.

However, since we’re performing these skills in shallow water we can surface if required.

Mentioned earlier that we will being doing the skills repeatedly to make you more comfortable and confident. You need to perform the skills satisfactorily to proceed further in the course.

Pre-dive safety check

Steps to be taken to go for Scuba diving in the ocean The most important step is to perform a pre-dive safety check between the dive buddies. Once done, inflate your BC and have your mask on with snorkel in your mouth.

Start entering in to the water and wait for your buddy. Start descending while breathing through the primary regulator and facing towards your buddy. Start deflating to go down slowly and do not deflate all the way empty the BC as well as keep equalising on time.

Once you reach the bottom make yourself neutrally buoyant and start swimming with your buddy as per the dive plan and enjoy your dive. The time you abort the dive, You should signal your buddy and wait for his/her signal back. Once ready start ascending while deflating your BC as well as maintaining a ascend rate of 9 meters per minute. when you are about to surface, reach one of your hand above your head while looking up to find boats movement and obstacles. After surfacing inflate your BC to maintain positive buoyancy and get back to boat or shore safely.
