What is the SSI Basic diver course For exploring the beautiful underwater world as well as feeling the adrenaline rush through your veins, The SSI Basic Diver is well suited specially when you are not sure of committing to a certification courses yet. It is a beginner level programme which prepares you to dive to a depth of 12 meters. It takes only a day to compete the programme and if you like scuba in Andaman, You can decide to carry on completing a full scuba diving course ahead too.

Your instructor will give you an introduction to dive theory and prepare you with a few necessary skills to help you feel more comfortable with the scuba gear so that you can dive till 12 meters of sea water to explore the reef. No prior experience in diving or even swimming is required to sign up for the SSI Basic Diver programme.

Your instructor will start introducing himself as well as the course and assisting you in completing the paperwork, These are required for the activity such as registration form, privacy policy, divers code form, liability release form and medical questionnaire for scuba diving course in India.

There will be a short descriptive briefing involved to let you understand about the hand signals, how the scuba equipment works ( such as how to use mask, snorkel and fines), how to breathe through scuba regulator, how & when to use your BC as well as how to equalise. We also include the effects of increasing pressure on our body as well as how your vision magnifies due to the density of the water and so on.

We do insist you to put on our wetsuit even if you are wearing your favourite swim suit, because water absorbs heat from human body 25 times faster than air does and you might feel sick after the dive. A wetsuit is 3mm thick and keeps you worm during you dive in the water. Before leaving for the dive we do need to check that everything we need those are in place in order to get seamless experience of the best scuba diving at Havelock island .

The scuba diving instructor

It is very important that you to adopt a good habit of breathing through your mouth while using your primary regulator. We keep you at chest deep water for your confined water skills, where you are going to take the first breathe underwater. We do encourage you to keep breathing underwater till it makes you feel comfortable. In the very beginning everybody feels and thinks it is not their cup of tea but as we proceed for further training, you start feeling comfortable. Do not give up, it is as easy as sipping orange juice through a straw. We do some regulator retrieval and musk clearing skills to get you charged before the actual dive. As the dive can be possible either from the boat or by shore, upon completing the skills session your instructor will decide the dive site that suits you the best.

The much awaited open water scuba dive session It is very important for you and your instructor to have a clear vision as well as a proper plan for the dive. We believe in explaining the entry and exit methods, steady breathing pattern, regular equalisation as well as the dive site topography and the fish life. A few of the coral reefs can sting you, it is recommended not to touch or screw anything, as this habit prevents hurting you as well as the coral reefs.

The scuba diver starts descending

The beginning of the dive, we do insist performing a buddy check before entering the water to ensure all our equipment are working properly. You should remain calm and shouldn’t fiddle with any button unless directed by us. We enter the water first for a quick check. Then you need to get in the water and our crew will assist you in that. Once in the water, We start using the regulator on the surface and signal each other to start going down. Keep equalising on a regular basic before you feel pain on your eardrums. After reaching the point as discussed , we start swimming. If you can’t swim, that is not a problem. The instructor accompanying you will be swimming for you and you just need to hold on to his hand and done. We will be at most an arm’s length away from you and you can see us all the time while your deep sea diving in India.

Your dive time will be depending on how easy you breathe ( dive time depends on your air consumption) , but mostly it is at least 45 minutes. Do not hold your breathe, keep breathing deep steady and long to enjoy your dive to the fullest. We usually keep extra professional to click your pictures and videos. So that the breathtaking experience can become your charming memory too. After the dive we do ask you how was your experience like and talk about the fish and corals those you have seen while being underwater. We do encourage you to consider doing your Open Water Diver course in the next 6 months since the Basic diver recognition counts towards it.
