Sixth Form students at SCC benefit from an outstanding learning environment which is conducive to the development of independent learning, whilst continuing to provide excellent student support services. The standards expected and achieved at SCC are high, with the combination of personal development and academic achievement enabling many of our students to access degree courses within Higher Education. Students within the Sixth Form at SCC have good opportunities for enrichment. Many of these allow students to work with younger students within the school, which enhances their own experience and development as well as contributing to their position as role models within the whole school community. This prospectus provides you with some information about Sixth Form to help you to decide if SCC is the right place for you. The most important reason to choose our sixth form is that we offer a varied and innovative curriculum to meet the needs of the wide range of students that we cater for. This means that you can choose to follow a very traditional academic A level programme, or you can take a more vocational path, choosing courses that build practical skills at the same time as developing your academic abilities. We have a good tradition of providing excellent pastoral care and guidance, as recognised by Ofsted during our most recent inspection. You will have a personal course tutor, a Learning Leader, a Careers Advisor, along with a Principal and Vice Principal who will all use their shared knowledge and experience to help you achieve your goals and move on to the destinations you are aiming for. We always invite applications from external applicants who wish to join our Year 12, as well as existing students at Sittingbourne Community College. Applications to SCC are welcomed from any applicant for whom there is an appropriate course and who has shown a positive attitude to learning, a level of attendance that will support achievement, and a record of conduct that is in keeping with the school code of conduct. Internal students are actively supported and encouraged to apply to the Sixth Form. Access to courses will be based on the admissions criteria set out in the Sixth Form prospectus. Students will have an ‘early intentions’ consultation with a member of the Sixth Form Senior Leadership team, and students will be expected to complete an application form with details of predicted grades and related course options. Following receipt of application, conditional offers will be sent to students based on their predicted grades and their related courses options at that time.These are subject to change in accordance to their actual summer results.
Access to levels of courses will be based on the following:
• ACTUAL GCSE GRADES • ADMISSIONS CRITERIA – WHICH ARE COURSE SPECIFIC, AS DETAILED IN THE SIXTH FORM PROSPECTUS
• INDIVIDUAL STUDENT DATA
• ADVICE AND GUIDANCE OF THE SIXTH FORM TEAM
• SUFFICIENT NUMBERS BEING RECRUITED TO EACH COURSE
