WELCOME Welcome to the School of Theatre, Television, and Films (TTF) mainstage production of She Kills Monsters by Qui Nguyen. This brilliant play is written by an American writer—with Vietnamese ancestry. We might consequently refer to him as VietnameseAmerican by virtue of the circumstances of his birth, land, heritage and culture. Qui Nguyen has contributed copious amounts of work into the development of the American Theatre. Herein lies the beauty and unique quality that we aspire toward in the modern definition of the American Theatre. We yearn to see a true tapestry of voices that enriches our experiences and elevates our humanity. TTF is proud to present our virtual production of the work of an Asian American writer. We hope that you all join us as we work to convert our current human struggle into real change. Please enjoy the work.

It creates and produces new works of theatre based in action/adventure and dark comedy with a comic book aesthetic. The company actively pursues the mating of different genres with varied theatrical styles to create an eclectic structure to tell its stories. The company aims to bridge the gap between mass media entertainment and the performing arts, exposing the community to challenging, thoughtprovoking live entertainment rooted in today’s pop-culture vernacular.”

DRAMATURG’S NOTE Welcome Adventurers! Our show She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms is a fantasy-action comedy that is based on the lore of “Dungeons and Dragons” (D&D), a table top role-playing game (RPG) created by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson. At its heart, D&D is about storytelling: creating a fantastical world, crawling through dungeons, daring rescues, intrigue, fighting monsters, mischief, magic, mead, and more! When Broadway and the vast majority of theatres shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March of 2020, writer Qui Nguyen agreed to alter and re-release She Kills Monsters as She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms for virtual platforms such as Zoom. Allowing for social distancing, some major parts of the story have been altered to fit the online platform. Even if you have never played D&D, I think what really draws people to this story is the idea of connection. In the midst of tragedy and death, our main character—Agnes—reaches out to meet her sister. Though D&D is a madeup fantasy land, eventually the connections that Agnes makes in-game slowly spread into her “waking” life. With COVID-19 changing all of our lives into a more solitary situation, the need for connection is more present than ever. Okay, travelers! It’s time to roll for initiative and get ready for battle! We hope you enjoy our production of She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms. For a complete guide to all the monsters, classes, and races in She Kills Monsters—or for more information on our show—please visit our website at sdsuskm.wordpress.com. —Maya Greenfield-Thong, Dramaturg

He has created courses on Diversity and in the PSFA Minor (Media Arts and Technology). In developing these courses, he worked with both undergraduate and graduate students. Peter has also grown the Introduction to Theatre, Television, and Film course and continued to develop the International Film course.
