WELCOME Welcome to the School of Theatre, Television, and Film's production of the award-winning play, The Wolves. We are proud to present this play which was a 2017 finalist for the Pulitzer prize in Drama; an Obie ensemble winner; and winner for outstanding New American Play. In some ways, and by coincidence ours is a very timely production, as the U.S Women’s Soccer team in the year “2022” finally wins its case for equal pay with the Men’s team. It took litigation to receive this recognition for equity; despite a continued winning record, well above the accomplishment of the Men’s team? We celebrate this victory and hope that this production elevates an awareness that comes from great plays and productions such as this one. Congratulations to the cast and crew who have worked very hard and braved the pandemic to offer us this production. Originally presented by New York Stage and Film and Vassar in the Powerhouse Season, Summer 2016. Playwrights Horizons Theater School produced a workshop of The Wolves in 2015 in association with Clubbed Thumb, where the play had been developed previously. DIRECTOR JESCA PRUDENCIO
is a director, choreographer, and intimacy director dedicated to developing new theatrical works that humanize issues nationally and internationally.
Recent works: Can We Now? (La Jolla Playhouse WoW Fest), It’s a Ship Show! (Virgin Voyages), UnRemarkable! A Melissa Li and Kit Yan Concert Special (Musical Theatre Factory), Interstate by Kit Yan and Melissa Yi (Mixed Blood World Premiere, upcoming East West Players), and the award-winning short film American Quartet (Filmelodic, NYC). Other credits include The Great Leap by Lauren Yee (Steppenwolf), Vietgone and Actually (San Diego Rep), Calling (La MaMa ETC), Man of God (East West Players), A&Q (Pineapple Lab, Philippines) and FAN (B-Floor, Thailand). Jesca has developed new work at MCC Theater, Atlantic Theater Company, Cleveland Playhouse, Arena Stage, NAMT, and La MaMa. Her short film American Quartet is currently making the film festival rounds internationally. She is a recipient of The Drama League Fellowship and the inaugural Julie Taymor World Theater Fellowship. SCENIC DESIGNER BARBARA TWO STARS is a scenic designer in her first year of the MFA Design
and Technology program at SDSU. She originally hails from the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate tribe in South Dakota. Barbara served in the Air Force for five years before she received her B.S. in Healthcare Administration from Davenport University. After working for the V.A. San Diego Healthcare System for many years, she began pursuing her true passion of creating spaces. She obtained her degree in interior design before continuing her education at SDSU. The Wolves is her first show as scenic designer and she is excited to be a part of this amazing story. Other works this year include assistant scenic designer for Miku and the Gods. In her free time, Barbara enjoys nerding out with her husband and two children, reading anything by Dean Koontz, binge-watching Gilmore Girls, and designing a cat living room for her kitty child, Diego.
COSTUME DESIGNER MAYTÉ MARTÍNEZ is a native-born San Diegan. She graduated with an
Associate’s degree in Theatre Arts, and Humanities & Fine Arts from Grossmont College. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in costume design from San Diego State University. In her undergraduate studies, she was the costume designer for SDSU’s Twelfth Night Transformed, directed by Dani Bedau. She is currently enrolled in San Diego State University’s MFA program pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in costume design. She previously worked at The Old Globe Theatre with the Department of Arts Engagement’s coLAB as costume designer for the 2018 production of La Visita de la Abuela, directed by Ramón Verdugo, and the musical The Ruby in Us directed by Delicia Turner Sonnenberg in 2019. She was also costume designer/ coordinator for The Old Globe’s Arts Engagement’s coLAB production of Pasajes/Passages, and Hermanas (Sisters) directed by Ramón Verdugo.
LIGHTING DESIGNER SIERRA SHREVES is making their California design debut in this production
of The Wolves. After graduating with a BFA in Theatre Design and Technology with an emphasis in Lighting Design from Northern Kentucky University, Sierra joined the Theatre Arts department here at SDSU in pursuit of an MFA in Design and Technology. Sierra comes to The Wolves after serving as Assistant Lighting Designer for SDSU’s production of Steel Pier under Lighting Designer Annelise Raquel Salazar. Sierra thoroughly enjoyed working with Jesca, the cast, and crew and hopes the audience enjoys the intrusive look into unrefined lives of a teen women’s soccer team.

STAGE MANAGER AMANDA GOUGELMANN is a third year undergraduate studying Theatre
Arts, Design & Technology with an emphasis in Lighting Design alongside a minor in Film. This is Amanda’s first time stage managing an SDSU production. She recently worked as the assistant stage manager to Lindsay Brashier on Steel Pier. Amanda is currently working on Heathers: The Musical as the lighting designer as well as stage managing a dance company located in San Diego. Amanda would like to thank the cast, Jesca, Shonti, and the production team for guiding her through this process! Enjoy the show!
CAST: WHO’S WHO Clara Holland (#00)
Clara (she/hers) is delighted to be a part of her first SDSU Department production! You may have seen her last semester in Murder at the Art Show (SDSU Skull and Dagger Drama Society), or as a scare actor for the Associated Students Halloween Monster Mash. If you are from Northern California, you may have caught her performances in productions such as Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Grapes of Wrath, Anything Goes, and Love/Sick at Miramonte High School or perhaps you have seen her original written and directed works featured at the California Shakespeare Company and the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art Film Festival. She spends her summers back in the Bay Area working for a children’s theater company directing, producing, managing, and working tech. It’s her honor to guide the next generation of actors into the spotlight. She extends her gratitude to the cast and crew for this amazing opportunity!
Kendall Kraft (#2)
Kendall Kraft is a first year Theatre Arts, Performance major from Thousand Oaks, CA. This is her second production here at SDSU, her first was Skull and Dagger’s Murder at the Art Show. Some recent roles she has played include Agnes in She Kills Monsters and Louisa Von Trapp in The Sound of Music. She has been acting and performing ever since third grade, and she is grateful for the love and support from parents and big sister to keep pursuing her passion. She is so excited to be performing alongside her fellow castmates and can’t wait for you to see the show!
Destiny Denny-Ellis (#7)
Destiny Denny is a third year transfer student pursuing her bachelors in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in Performance. She is ecstatic to be making her main stage debut at SDSU. Destiny has been broadening her scope of theatre beyond musical theatre training here at SDSU, in order to emerge as a well rounded performer.

Jayden Smith (she/her) is super excited to be playing #8 in The Wolves as her first show at San Diego State. She is a freshman and is a pre-Theatre Arts major with an emphasis on acting. She is eighteen and is from Sacramento. She has previously been seen in Hamlet and Ranked at Theatre at Granite Bay. When she isn’t on stage, Jayden loves running and singing. She has loved being able to work with such a great team. She wants to thank her family for supporting her through it all. She wants to thank you all for coming and hopes you enjoy the show!
Julia Lloren (#11)
Julia Lloren is currently a third year Theatre Arts, Performance & Political Science double major here at San Diego State University. One of Julia’s favorite roles she has played is the Drowsy Chaperone in The Drowsy Chaperone. Julia has performed and worked on four shows here at San Diego State including Pastorela 2.0, Much Ado About Nothing, Dear Harvey, and A La Madre. She is very excited to be a part of The Wolves this Spring, along with The Playwrights Project in April. She is very thankful and proud of the directors, crew, and cast for putting on such a powerful show. J’Arrian Wade (#13)
J’Arrian Wade is in their fourth year as a Theatre Arts, Performance major here at San Diego State University. They have enjoyed the spotlight previously as Evil Gabbi in She Kills Monsters, Thea in Spring Awakening, Saint Monica in The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, within The Vagina Monologues and now as #13 in The Wolves. J’Arrian continues to expand the spectrum of their craft through training in film, theatre, movement , dance, and voice. They hope to emerge as an interdisciplinary artist that intertwines their love for experimental entertainment and culture, through acting, writing, directing, and taking up space.

Scarlett is absolutely thrilled to be in her second mainstage production at SDSU! She’s currently a third year Theatre Arts, Performance major. You might’ve previously seen her in Skull & Dagger’s Murder at the Art Show as Paxton Haddock last semester & on the SDSU Mainstage as Ellen/Announcer/ Soldier in Cloud 9 last Spring! Some of her favorite shows she’s been in are Macbeth (as Macbeth), The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-In-The-Moon Marigolds (as Ruth), Bellwether (as Jackie Draft), & Pantalone (A Servant of Two Masters). She would like to thank everyone who’s on her team such as her fellow castmates, Jesca Prudencio, & her wonderful friends and family for being so supportive. She is so grateful to be doing theatre in person once again & hopes you all enjoy this brilliant show!
Mikayla Hinds (#25)
Mikayla Hinds is in her final year at San Diego State University finishing her studies with a degree in Theatre Arts and a minor in Communications. Mikayla is a San Diego-based actor originally from Sacramento, California. Previous works include playing Helen Thorpe (Just Like Us), Bottom (A Midsummer Night’ s Dream), Dr. Sorn (Stupid Fucking Bird), Sydney (Black Flag, The Free Play Project) and The Vagina Monologues. When she’s not on the stage she can be found going on late night drives, reading, watching the latest Marvel movie or enjoying the San Diego sun. She would like to thank her family for always believing in her, her friends for their endless support and her character #25, for showing her how to be brave. She cannot begin to thank her wonderful directors and cast for all the insane work they’ve put into this show! Enjoy the show!
Lillian Johnson (#46)
This is Lillian’s second production at San Diego State and she is thrilled to be a part of The Wolves team. She was previously in SDSU’s production of Miku and the Gods. She has also performed in the 2020 and 2019 New Play Festivals at San Diego City College. In 2019 she played the role of The Writer in Southwestern College’s production of The Good Doctor. Lillian is grateful for the incredibly talented cast and fantastic creative team that have made this story come to life. She hopes you enjoy The Wolves!
CAST: WHO’S WHO Randi McKenzie (Soccer Mom)
Randi McKenzie is thrilled to be performing in Jesca Prudencio’s production of The Wolves. She was last seen at SDSU in Noah Leach’s Holigay Magic, Road to Edo, and I Love You, I Love You Not with the SDSU Children’s Touring Theatre. She’s performed in Picnic at Octad One, Rehearsal for Murder at the La Mesa Lamplighters, Anything Goes, My Fair Lady, Oklahoma, and The Boyfriend at Starlight Theatre in Pennsylvania, and A Knight at the Fights at The Society of American Fight Directors summer workshop. Since retiring as the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs in PSFA, McKenzie has volunteered teaching theatrical sword fighting, volunteering in the Educational Opportunity Program, and teaching disaster preparedness with the American Red Cross.
