Message from Leadership
Dear Donor, This past year has been transformative for our pre-law community, and we are grateful for the support that continues to create opportunities for our students. As a Hispanic-Serving Institution with many first-generation students, we are committed to helping students envision themselves as future legal professionals and leaders. Donor support enhanced programs such as the Pre-Law Society, Mock Trial, and Empowering Women in Law, and made possible a pre-law networking and mentorship event that fostered professional growth and peer connections. Support also provided LSAT preparation resources, including diagnostic testing, workshops, prep courses, and study materials. Thank you for helping remove barriers and empowering our students to pursue their goals in legal education and beyond.

Propelling the SDSU Community Forward Fiske Enhancing Pre-Law Education Fund The Fiske Enhancing Pre-Law Education Fund supported several initiatives designed to strengthen undergraduate pre-law preparation and engagement. Funding was used to host a pre-law community event that provided students with opportunities for mentorship, networking, professional headshots, and peer connection. The fund also supported partnerships with LSAT preparation organizations, allowing students to complete a diagnostic examination and participate in follow-up workshops focused on test-taking strategies and common areas for improvement. As a result, six students received scholarships for in-person LSAT preparation courses, ten students received access to online preparation courses, and additional students received LSAT study materials. These resources expanded access to law school preparation opportunities and enhanced the support available to students pursuing legal careers.

Thriving in the Aztec Experience Thomas McReynolds, Class of 2027 Class Level: Undergraduate Student College: College of Arts and Letters Major: Criminal Justice As a student leader who helped organize and attend the prelaw networking event, Thomas McReynolds was excited to see more than 90 students participate in an evening focused on professional development, mentorship, and community building. Hosted at a downtown San Diego law firm, the event brought together SDSU pre-law students, alumni, law students, attorneys, and members of the Higgs Fletcher & Mack team. Reflecting on the event, Thomas shared that he was “thrilled to see so many pre-law students who were passionate about entering the legal field” and hoped they had the opportunity to make meaningful connections and receive valuable career advice. Throughout the evening, students received professional headshots, connected with peers, and engaged in conversations with legal professionals about law school and career pathways. For many, it was their first experience in a law firm setting. The event strengthened the SDSU pre-law community while providing networking and mentorship opportunities that will support students as they pursue their academic and professional goals.

Student Spotlight
Bryana Arroyo, Class of 2027 Class Level: Undergraduate Student College: College of Arts and Letters Major: Political Science Inspired by her mother, who studied law in Mexico, Bryana Arroyo has dreamed of becoming an attorney for as long as she can remember. She shares, “Law has always felt like the right path for me. I can’t pinpoint an exact moment that inspired me to pursue law school because it has simply been my dream for as long as I can remember.” Growing up on the U.S.-Mexico border, with family in both Tijuana and San Diego, shaped her interest in immigration law. “Seeing the challenges that immigrants face daily fuels my passion to advocate for them,” she explains. “My goal,” Bryana adds, “is to make this system more humane and accessible for everyone who seeks a better future.” As she prepares to apply to law school after graduation, support from the Fiske Enhancing Pre-Law Education Fund has helped her access LSAT preparation resources that might otherwise have been financially out of reach. She notes that this assistance allows her to focus on preparing for the exam and maintaining a competitive GPA without the added stress of financial barriers. Through this support, she is taking meaningful steps toward achieving her goal of attending law school and pursuing a career in immigration law.
