Welcome to the King Center and Goodell Gymnasium, home of the Hardrockers. The facilities recently had a facelift as the women’s basketball, men’s basketball, women’s volleyball and men’s football teams all got upgrades to the locker room areas. The football team is totally housed at O’Harra Stadium, while volleyball, basketball and track recently had their current facilities modified. The locker rooms are all state of the art to go along with an excellent gym that seats approximately 3,000 fans. There also is a top of the line wellness center and an indoor pool for use too.

He also holds a M.A. degree in biology and a B.A. in botany from Humboldt State University in California. Dr. Wharton is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, The Explorers Club, and the Royal Geographic Society. Wharton is a recipient of the United States Antarctic Service Medal and has served on the National Research Council's Polar Research Board.

Dick Kaiser, South Dakota School of Mines Athletics Director Dick Kaiser earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from the University of Northern Colorado, a master's in educational administration from South Dakota State University, and a doctorate of education in athletic leadership and administration from Brigham Young University. He completed his post-doctorate in health education and administration at Oregon State University. Before arriving at South Dakota Mines, Kaiser had served as the AD for Defiance College for 10 years. Before that, he served as AD at Olivet College, Western Oregon University and Willamette University. He has received a number of honors and awards from athletics organizations such as the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and others. Kaiser is also responsible guiding the Hardrockers in the transition to NCAA Div. II status as well as fundraising for the effort and seeking conference affiliation. SD Mines has10 athletic programs within the department, competing in women's volleyball and men's football, as well as women's and men's teams in golf, cross country, track and field and basketball. Kaiser has two grown children, Cassie and Ryan; four grandchildren, Jack (age 5); twins Caden and Carson (age 2); and Lucy (age 1).

Lori Hodgin, SD Mines Program and Administrative Assistant Lori Hodgin has been the SD School of Mines administrative and program assistant for almost 20 years. Her duties have included: figuring out athletic eligibility each year, game-day administration (meaning hiring students to work at football and basketball games, volleyball matches and track meets. She is also involved in department purchasing and making sure that everything runs smooth in the athletic department on a day-today basis. Lori has lived in Rapid City most of her life, but was born in Los Angeles, Calif. She has a son Greg who is currently employed by the Hardrocker football program as an assistant coach. She is a huge animal lover, donating her time to the Humane Society and on occasion has adopted dogs from there as well.

Jen Ranum, South Dakota School of Mines Athletic Trainer and Compliance Officer Jennifer Ranum is starting her second year as the NCAA Div. II Compliance Officer at the School of Mines making sure that the Hardrockers are kept up to speed on all NCAA rules and regulations and helping student-athletes with eligibility and other questions. She will also be starting her fifth year as the volleyball athletic trainer for the Lady Hardrockers. She graduated in May of 2007 from National American University with degrees in Athletic Training and Applied Management. Jen became certified in September of 2007. She is a member of both the National Athletic Trainer’s Association and the Mid America Athletic Trainer’s Association since 2004. She has spent three years at the School of Mines doing outreach as a student athletic trainer and upon graduation was hired and is now in her third year as assistant athletic trainer.

Rick Lutes, South Dakota Mines Athletic Equipment Manager Rick Lutes embarks on his sixth year as the South Dakota School of Mines equipment manager. Among a multitude of duties for the Hardrockers, Rick works alongside coaches to coordinate each programs’ equipment needs for practices, games, meets or matches. His duties range from laundry of uniforms to inflating the game balls. Rick has been a multi-sports official for 30-plus years on the high school and college level having held a Masters Level rating with USA Track and Field. Rick has also enjoyed in the past officiating adapted athletics for high schools in Minnesota and the Courage Center of Golden Valley, Minn. Rick has held athletic and event management related positions in Minnesota and Texas Before the move to Rapid City Rick was the Director of Track and Field at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn. Rick and his family moved to Rapid City when his wife, Kathy, a pastor, accepted a call to a local Rapid City church. The Lutes’ are parents of two adult sons.

Head Coach Tiffany McCampbell Tiffany McCampbell, is in her third full season as the Lady Hardrocker volleyball coach at the South Dakota School of Mines. McCampbell joined the SD Mines athletic department after a two-year stint in St. Joseph, Mo., at NCAA Div. II Missouri Western State University. "I've always wanted to coach kids that were at a very high level academically minded as well as athletes that have great character," McCampbell said. "And that already goes with the philosophy of the kids that are here. They have a high academic standard and already have a great work ethic." With all of her volleyball experience as a coach and a player, McCampbell recognizes the requirements to be an athlete as well as a student at SDSM&T and is fully prepared to continue to bring the highest quality of person to the school. "It's kind of a different recruiting base. It's going to be a little bit of a challenge," McCampbell said. "I try to not only make them a well-rounded athlete, but also a well-rounded person and at a place like this you can actually do that." McCampbell instills a winning tradition into her team and get them to enjoy the game and play hard. It's that kind of team, McCampbell says, that has the stability to get to the top. "With the right team, (the style of play) will be a very fast tempo," McCampbell added. As far as goals are concerned McCampbell has her sights set on the very top and that's getting the Hardrockers to a place they have not been in a number of years.

Assistant Coach Jennie Malone Former standout student-athlete Jennie Malone is in her second full season as the Lady Hardrockers’ assistant volleyball coach for the 2011 season. "Jennie is a former student-athlete from the South Dakota School of Mines where she was a standout volleyball and basketball player," said Lady Hardrocker head coach Tiffany McCampbell. "I believe she has a very good understanding of the type of student-athlete that we recruit specifically to SD Mines." Malone, who graduated in 2008 with an Industrial Engineering degree, holds numerous singleseason and career records in both volleyball and basketball. Since graduation, she has been working at the Malone Engineering Incorporated in Rapid City. "I am really excited to still be a part of this program and this school. It's definitely different being on the other side of things," Malone said. "I am still learning to be on the other side of things and I will be learning for a long time. I'm excited about that too." One of the major advantages of having Malone on the 'Rocker volleyball coaching staff is her college experience at South Dakota Mines as a student-athlete and how she will be able to relate that to the current volleyball players. "That is the biggest thing our assistants need at SD Mines --- a good understanding of how things work here --- academically and the extracurricular pressure these student-athletes are exposed to," McCampbell said. The assistant coaching position will be full-time for Malone, something that will benefit the program significantly with the move to a higher level of competition. "It's nice to have an assistant that can be around in a full-time capacity role that will transition this program from NAIA to NCAA Div. II," McCampbell said. Malone's main duties will be assisting with practice and in matches and help in developing and growing the program for the NCAA Div. II switch.
