PUNCHING ABOVE THEIR WEIGHT
Local siblings Genevieve (Gen) and Gilbert (Gilly) Hebrard recently raised the bar at the All Schools Weightlifting Competition in Nundah, all while keeping on top of regular school tasks at Samford State School and Ferny Grove State High School.
Fourteen-year-old Gen took out the silver medal in the Under 53kgs Girls division, impressing judges with her 29kg Snatch and 45kg Clean and Jerk lifts.
Six-year-old Gilly was the youngest competitor in the under 12s division, placing an incredible fourth and shining as the only competitor to be successful in all six lifts. His top weight lifted was a 10kg Clean and Jerk and a 7kg Snatch.

The pair have competed in three competitions recently, improving in their lifts each time.
“The best part about seeing your kids in sports is seeing them enjoy it and become a more confident person from the experience,” their mum Jodie Hebrard said.
“It’s also awesome they have another adult in their lives (their coach) who is helping shape them into being the best they can be.”
After watching her parents strength train regularly, Gen put her hand up to join her dad in his regular CrossFit sessions, soon realising she needed to improve her Olympic Lifting to pursue her greater ambition of becoming a competitive athlete.
Not satisfied with just cheering on his sister from the sidelines as she regularly trained at the Chandler Cougars Weightlifting Club, younger brother Gilly didn’t hesitate to flex his own muscle when Gen’s coach invited him to join a class. He has been learning and lifting ever since.
While Jodie didn’t expect to be in regular attendance at weightlifting platforms, she couldn’t be prouder as she and her husband support her kids’ natural interests.
“I think allowing kids to follow their curiosity is super important to finding the right sport for them. I never would have thought I’d have kids competing in weightlifting but here we are!”
What started as hard work has become a source of fun for Gen, whose coach makes the sessions enjoyable by combining a positive learning environment and right level of physical challenge. With aspirations to be part of the 2032 Olympics Weightlifting team, Gen is well on the way to lift expectations in her chosen sport.
Younger brother Gilly has his sights set on becoming a champion boxer, and knows he needs to be strong in the ring. He also trains at Fortitude Boxing to pursue this dream.
We can’t wait to see what this dynamic duo achieve, as Gen and Gilly continue to build strength of character along with their muscle.

MEET YOUR DICKSON CANDIDATES
COMMUNITY FORUM –17 APRIL, 2025
For most elections (local, state or federal) since 1989, Samford Progress (SDPPA) has held a ‘Meet the Candidates’ Forum for local residents.
As Queenslanders will go to the polls on Saturday 3 May to elect our federal representatives, Samford Progress will host this Forum on Thursday 17 April, 7pm in the Farmers Hall, Main Street, Samford This is a community meeting and will be chaired by Samford Progress. Candidates from each nominated political party have been invited to attend. As we go to press, we are waiting their confirmation. The Forum format is simple - each candidate will have 5 minutes to address the audience, there will be questions from the floor, mediated through the Chair, then closing remarks from the candidates before a wrap up from Samford Progress. This Forum is held for the benefit of locals to give everyone the opportunity to hear from the candidates. It is an orderly and respectful event. Posters and other election material are not allowed in the hall, and the Chair will ensure that questions come from local residents. You will be asked for residential ID before entry. No RSVP is required.
Besides the obvious aim of watching and hearing the candidates live on stage, it is an opportunity for locals to outline their concerns.
If you have any questions, please contact president@samfordprogress.org.au Samford Progress

500 LIFEBLOOD DONATIONS
Local Highvale resident John Clark continues to amaze with his commitment as a blood donor, reaching an incredible milestone of 500 donations to Australian Red Cross’ Lifeblood.
“I started donating in the 70s, firstly with whole blood every 13 weeks. When I came to Queensland, I started donating plasma once those machines were developed,” said John.

After several years of donating every 4 weeks, then down to 2 weeks, John then donated platelets for a few years. Platelets are a clotting agent in your blood, mainly used to control bleeding.
“It has taken me quite a while to achieve my 500 donations, due to working out of Brisbane for a lot of my working years. I’m just pleased I managed to get there, eventually. I always say, ‘I’d rather be donating than receiving.”
John wants to encourage as many people as possible to give blood. Donating whole blood takes less than 10 minutes, Plasma takes about an hour. You can donate once you’re 18 years old and there are no restrictions anymore on people who lived in England in the 80s, during to the Mad Cow era.
“I can assure you, Lifeblood will be very friendly and pleased to have you on board. So much so, they will even give you a variety of culinary delights and drinks after your donation.”
The nearest donation centre to Samford is Chermside (free parking), but if you work in the city you can go to the Upper Edward Street Lifeblood Centre (also free parking) during your lunch break - and have lunch there afterward!
“Let’s try to raise the participation rate above 3% and make Queensland the donation state of Australia.”
Well done John – a blood-y great achievement.

Samford Museum
On Wednesday 19th March, Samford District Historical Museum celebrated the induction of another Life Member, Mr Irwin Draper.
If there is one word to describe Irwin, this would be reliable. Whenever there is work to be done, Irwin is one of the first to volunteer to do whatever is needed to be built or repaired at the Museum.
Some major works of Irwin were noted at his induction, including re-shaping the interior of the main building and its reception area. Irwin has served twice as Vice President of the Museum. As they say - time marches on and this applies to Irwin.
When the Samford Museum hosts visiting school groups, Irwin willingly gives his time to the timber demonstrations with his vast knowledge of the surrounding timber areas of Samford and its history. Irwin’s other works can be seen in the restoration of old carts and buggies, as he likes to get his hands dirty.
On one occasion, Irwin was seen getting down on his hands and knees playing marbles with the visiting
school children, which is no mean feat for him.
Irwin was presented with a Life Membership Certificate at a morning tea, with a very large chocolate cake shared with many of our current and former volunteers.
Irwin’s patient and loving wife of many years, Bev, was also present to see this honour bestowed on him. Bev was also presented with a lovely bunch of roses.
We thank you Irwin and Bev for your continuous commitment to the Samford District Historical Museum.
Finally, don’t forget the Museum will be open on Anzac Day with FREE admission, thanks to our generous sponsors: The Samford Garage, The Long Yard Larder, Chelsea Perry/Craig Doyle Real Estate and Community Bank Samford.

Samford
As ANZAC Day approaches, we must always remember those who did not return and those whose lives were changed forever in all conflicts of war.
Traditionally we observe this day as a National Day of Remembrance in Australia and New Zealand, whose servicemen and women served in conflicts of war and peace, keeping operations and the significance of
the landing at Gallipoli in 1915, in the First World War, one hundred and ten years ago.
Like all small towns and cities in Australia and New Zealand, the day begins with a solemn dawn service, followed by a march by former and current service men and women, and then a memorial service. Remembrance of this day is the wearing of a poppy.
We honor the ANZAC legend as it is an important part of Australian and New Zealand legacy that shapes both countries’ national identity.
Early last century, no one could not say that they were not affected by a loss of a loved one in one way or the other during the First World War and other conflicts after that.

SEASON WRAP
And that’s a wrap for Samford Stingrays Swim Club 23/24 Swim Season. On Saturday 22nd March we held our end of season Club Championships, where the kids had the opportunity to race against their peers to compete for medals and age champions per age/sex. It was a great afternoon with lots of sunshine and smiles, and there was even an opportunity for some of the parents to jump in for the parents vs kids relay. A huge thank you to Alex Davies from Admire Dentistry for coming along to support as our Platinum Sponsor. Alex presented the kids with the distance medals that were achieved throughout the season.

On Friday 28th of March, the team put on their party clothes and headed to Samford Stags for their Club Season Awards Night,
photographed by the talented Joep Buijs. It takes courage to climb onto the blocks every week and race against your personal best times and your swimming competitors. Every swimmer in the club deserves recognition for that and they should all be proud. Standouts on the night were: Female Club Champion: Sophie Ross Male Club Champion: Ethan Horton Female Distance Champion: Miranda Millmann

SAMFORD PROGRESS SUPPORTED ACTIVITIES
Bushcare
Our March bushcare was cancelled owing to cyclone Alfred and our next council-assisted working bee is scheduled for Sunday 13 April from 2pm to 4pm. We have a few plants to get in the ground: some bought at the recent NPQ Plants Sale at the Samford Showgrounds, plus some Hoop Pines kindly donated by Doris Schwarz of the NPQ Propagation Group. However, the main task will be to do 2 months’ worth of weeding, so we would appreciate a really big turn out so we can tackle as much of the site as possible.
Riverwatch
Our volunteer-led water sampling planned for late March had to be postponed because of further minor flooding in the South Pine River so we are now aiming for late April.

APRIL IS LISTENING MONTH
The lead-up to an election is often fraught with angry political debate, not only among party leaders and candidates but also in the ordinary places we mere mortals meet, work and inhabit. Everyone has their own opinion formed mostly by their experiences, beliefs, cultural background, education, interests and media interaction. Social media and some government leaders exacerbate social rifts, fuelling conflict between groups with different views. It’s time to stop the animosity and relate to one another again. Probably every one of Australia’s 21.5 million adults wants their opinions heard. How do we hear and react to other’s opinions respectfully?
Risk connecting with people whose views are different to yours. Volunteer, or join a club…Samford has lots of ways to connect. Relate to others through your shared interest in your chosen group, showing respect for all involved. Seek the common ground between you and anyone who has a different view. If an argument evolves, restate the problem and brainstorm different ways that the problem could be solved. Try to make sure your opinions and ideas are based on fact.
Listen more, talk less. Don’t accept everything you see and hear, fact check
anything you suspect, check the original source and watch for bias. If another person is stating their point of view, show you have heard and understood by restating what they’ve said. Don’t jump in with a quick angry reaction to what they are saying — easier said than done. Listen to every word they say. Examine your biases, listen without judgement.
Showing empathy does not mean you agree, it does mean you are reassuring the other person by not enforcing your own opinion. Now you can present a respectful calm, considered statement of your views backed by data you have found. Above all be kind, caring and respectful. April is listening month.
Our Friday group won’t be operating on Friday 18th (Good Friday) or Friday 25th (ANZAC Day) but we will be exercising our jaws and fingers on the 11th, preparing for Mother’s Day.

SEGT Water Wisdom
Water. It’s something gardeners often lament not having enough of, but due to recent plentiful rainfall, many of us are currently faced with the opposite problem – too much! If you have experienced an unwanted volume of water in your garden, or watched it run off knowing in drier months you’ll wish you’d captured or at least slowed it down, then come to the Samford Edible Garden Trail on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 May. We have knowledgeable garden hosts keen to share their water management insights and successes with you. They may even divulge what didn’t work, saving you the same experiment and a bunch of time in the process – whether it’s:
• making too little go further (wicking beds at the Hills Organic Community Garden);
• slowing it down to seep through a garden bed (Clair’s raised beds & swales); or

• diverting water away from where it’s not wanted to where it is (Jason’s contouring).

Estate planning is often thought of as simply writing a Will, but it’s so much more than that, it’s a crucial part of protecting your financial future
Without a clear plan in place, your assets could get caught up in legal delays, your family could face unnecessary stress, and your superannuation might not go to the people you intended.
Estate planning ensures your wealth is managed efficiently, giving you full control over how your assets, investments, and financial affairs are handled - both now and in the future.

SPONSORS WANTED
Two Samford RDA horses are looking for sponsors to call their own. Noddy and Harry are part of the dozen-strong herd at the RDA Centre at Samford Showgrounds. With racing careers behind them, their full-time job these days is to work with both children and adults with a disability.
RDA’s Horse Sponsors financially support the care and feeding of their sponsored horse, helping to meet the significant annual costs involved. Sponsorship is currently $1,900 a year and comes with a range of sponsor benefits including signage at the RDA centre.
Over the years Samford RDA’s Horse Sponsors have included representatives from all levels of government, local businesses, individuals and community groups. Current sponsors are Federal Member Peter Dutton, State Member Nikki Boyd, Moreton City Councillors Cath Tonks and Darren Grimwade, the Rotary Club of Samford Valley, Community Bank Samford, Golden Valley Keperra Lions Club, Airforce

As a charity and not-for-profit organisation, Samford RDA greatly appreciates the major financial contribution made by its Horse Sponsors, allowing other fund-raising efforts to go towards the costs of operating the RDA program and RDA centre.
For more information about sponsoring a Samford RDA horse, contact Secretary Lynn at 0416 077 528 or accounts@samfordrda. com.au.

Who’s Who @ SAMS Meet Ian!
Born in Brizzy with a Danish/Swedish heritage, he’s been actively involved with the Scout Group since the age of 9, from cubs through to rovers, earning the Queen’s Scout and Baden-Powell awards along the journey. For 15 years he was a regular cast member of the popular Gang Shows before shifting backstage to the hands-on technical and lighting side for many a decade.
In his 20s while walking in the city with his mates, he spied the QUT abseiling club training four storeys up outside their building, and muttered “I can do that,” before disappearing inside. Moments later, he was abseiling down the building like a pro, then he touched bottom, disengaged, and the gang continued walking along the street as if nothing remarkable had just happened.
During the years that his lovely wife had her own dance company, she took her 15-strong troupe to Scotland for the Highland Games in 2000 and let Ian tag along. Yet even with all the excitement of escaping Brisbane, wearing kilts and flinging himself over crossed swords, his thoughts drifted back to his Jamboree days.
He says this next story isn’t about him (and of course we believe him), but at one of those huge gatherings someone removed the bung from a fire hydrant below the makeshift stage, planning to replace it with a tap to provide water for everyone. At the time, there wasn’t any water available anywhere. However, unbeknownst to that person and all the onlookers, the plumber across the way chose that very moment to turn the water back on and pressurise

the whole fire fighting system. Watching stunned as a 20-foot water spout suddenly burst from the hydrant without notice, our nameless hero tried desperately to push the bung back in, even using his tummy to stop the flow, which only served to send the saturated audience into gales of laughter, applause and encores galore.
Ian joined SAMS four years ago, working mainly with wood, and helping with the odd electrical jobs because he can. He also loves organising and conducting excursions for SAMS members and partners to the bigname shows at Southbank where, as soon as we arrive, one of us is quietly designated fire hydrant watcher, just in case.
Check out SAMS’ website samfordshed. org.au, enquire at secretary@samfordshed. org.au, or visit us at Showgrounds Drive, Highvale, next to the Showgrounds entrance.

DIVISION 11 UPDATE
Have your say
The latest Moreton Says Survey is well underway. One of the questions that we are asking is ‘How do you get around?’ and I am pleased to say that there has been a great response so far. It was great to spend some time with members of Council’s Green Infrastructure and Active Transport team who have been out engaging with community members who have been drawing their preferred travel routes on large local network maps.
Just one of the ways that City of Moreton Bay is moving forward in our communityled Active Transport planning approach. It is so important that we receive as much feedback as possible to help shape our city. Have your say by going online at moretonbay.link/moreton-says or visit one of the many pop-up locations. The survey is open until 4pm on 23 April 2025.
Be aware over Easter
Our Green Infrastructure and Active Transport team are certainly kept busy. The team manages the largest vehicle activated LED sign array dedicated to reducing wildlife - vehicle collisions in Australia and we are so fortunate to have these 130 permanent units across the City of Moreton Bay, with many of them located within Division 11. This program provides drivers with a real time road safety message which is triggered by the speed of the vehicle. From mid-April over the Easter period, the message you will see to remind you that you are in a highrisk fauna movement area will be a smiley

The Slab Hut
April Featured Artist: Macrame artist Samantha Docherty
Making her first macrame plant hanger at 9 years old, it would be more than 35 years before Sam rediscovered macrame and fell in love with the ancient craft.
“I am fascinated by macrame’s simplicity. By learning just a few knots you can make anything and everything from earrings to a swing and even a floor rug!” she said. Creating original, beautiful items via macrame is enormously satisfying for Sam. She creates all manner of accessories and homewares as well as large wall-hangings which draw from her early years in Hong Kong and Scotland for inspiration.
Visit the Slab Hut and you will find a wealth of beautiful macrame items ready for Easter and Mother’s Day gift giving. There are daisy headbands and chunky cord jewellery. See the delicate dolls with gorgeous fine hair - buy one for mum and another for yourself!
How about a cute bag? There’s a fashionable tote bag with tassels, a chic handheld bag with wooden handles and even a bottle bag in rich red, ready to carry a favourite bottle.
Want to give a treasured handbag a new look? Check out the range of braided bag straps with sturdy clasps. Love your pot plants? Look at Sam’s range of modern and colourful plant hangers. Have hats to hang up? Buy a decorative hat hanger that will elevate your headpieces to wall art.
For the home, Sam has created a range of wall hangings that will make a gorgeous statement in any home - romantic floral pieces with added flowers and one-of-akind fibres and ribbons. @discovermacrame

Celebrating Play, Learning and Community Connections
March was an exciting time at Samford and Districts Playgroup, with families coming together to explore the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). These hands-on activities encouraged creativity, problemsolving, and a love for discovery in young children. Through play-based learning, little ones begin to experiment, build, and question the world around them, all while developing essential skills that will serve them well in the years ahead.
National Playgroup Week provided an opportunity to celebrate the value of playgroups across Australia. For decades, playgroups have provided young children with a safe and stimulating environment to socialise, explore new experiences, and learn through play. Equally important, they offer parents and caregivers a chance to connect with others, forming friendships and support networks that are invaluable during the early years of parenting. Samford Playgroup is proud to be part of this tradition, welcoming local families each week to enjoy engaging activities and a strong sense of community.
Families recently attended a unique session featuring a visit from members of Gallipoli Barracks and a Protected Mobility Vehicle (PMV). This interactive experience gave children a chance to explore the vehicle up close and meet the service members who operate it. In preparation for ANZAC Day, the playgroup also began

a wreath-making activity, providing an opportunity to introduce young children to the significance of this national day in an age-appropriate way. Through stories, discussions, and hands-on activities, the session fostered understanding and appreciation for those who have served.
With Easter just around the corner, families can also look forward to themed activities at playgroup, with details to be shared on the playgroup’s Facebook page.
Samford and Districts Playgroup continues to provide a welcoming space for families to gather, play, and learn together. Whether engaging in STEAM activities, celebrating community traditions, or simply enjoying the company of friends, playgroup remains a special place where connections are made, and little minds are nurtured.
Term 2 will commence on 23 April.

Samford Bowls Club
I feel as though we should all be taking up some form of water sports with the continuing rain. Lawn bowls is not the best in this recent Brisbane weather. I have just returned from a visit to Victoria and although beautiful, we should be grateful, as they are experiencing the opposite to us with a severe drought which was very sad to see.
Despite the rain we have managed to play some bowls. Both Samford teams in the Merlo Coffee Cup were defeated in the semi finals coming 3rd in Division 2 and Division 3. A great effort for our small club. Over the last few years this competition has changed names. This year, the sponsor, Dean Merlo was a member of the division one winning team from New Farm taking home his own Merlo Cup. Each year this competition continues to grow with some clubs entering four teams. Samford will try again next year.
Friday 28th March was a day set aside for any round of the Ladies Autumn Pennant Competition unable to be played due to wet weather, only to have the designated

day also looking like it could be a wash out.

The organisers waited until 7am on the day hoping for the best, before deciding to move the event undercover at the Enoggera Bowls Club. As the rain tumbled down, the ladies were able to play in comfort with the Samford Powerful Owls team winning their games against Toombul to give them a place in the semi-final played at Windsor Bowls Club on 4th April. The finals will be played at Ferny Grove Bowls Club on 11th April.
Well done to club member Joan Greenhalgh who has closed her laptop on the Brisbane District Bowls Association accounts and presented her final financial report. Joan joined the BDBA management committee as Treasurer in 2014. The BDBA wishes Joan a happy retirement and thanked her for the many hours of voluntary work which she donated to the BDBA district, of which Samford Bowls Club is a member. Hi, DC-3 Werner here.
This ‘bike over bus’ photo was taken by Tymon Blizzard, our local classic car dealer. Little did I know that this weekend would be my last musical appearance. The following damp weather damaged the pianola and, as interest in this type of music has weened off, the musical instrument was removed and the EV Messerschmitt put in its place.
With this photo I would like to say Good Bye to all my music lovers of Evergreens. The Airbus will still be buzzing around (“anything for a giggle” is my motto). See you at the Samford Show 2025! I will be teaming up with the Classic Cars. Cheers, Werner
And now, another serious matter! Werner is parting with some of his....

Like a good yarn? Like a good burger? Like a good time? See you at TGIF!
We hope everyone is doing well after our latest crazy weather event. In times of crisis, knowing your local community is invaluable, and TGIF is a fantastic way to stay connected. Our Thank Goodness It’s Friday events have been wonderful opportunities to meet new people in our area while also supporting the hall’s fundraising efforts. The positive feedback from attendees reassures us that our efforts to bring this monthly event together are truly appreciated.
We are excited to have even more musicians keen to perform at our events. If you love kicking back and enjoying live music, come and join us! In February, we enjoyed Ari Headley and Elijah Dunleavey’s modern take on old-school rock and roll, Bill Errington’s soulful classics, and our TGIF regular, Michael McGeever, who kept the crowd entertained with a mix of rock, pop, and folk. You can check out our musicians on the Cedar Creek Public Hall, Closeburn Facebook page.
If you’d like to perform at a future TGIF

event, get in touch with Michael at 0478 305 359.
This year, our April TGIF falls on Anzac Day. We’d like to invite you to take a moment to view the Closeburn Honour Roll, located upstairs behind the stage. We hope you’ll join us on Friday 25th for our monthly community event, and we’ll be sure to include some homemade Anzac biscuits in our sweet offerings.
The BBQ fires up at 5:30pm, the kitchen stays open until 7:30pm, and the music keeps us entertained until 8:30pm. Bring your own picnic blankets, camp chairs, nibbles, and favourite sundowner.
And looking ahead, our Welcome to Winter event is on Sunday, 8th June. This year we celebrate Cedar Creek Public Hall’s Centennial.
See you there.

Mystery tour of sustainable enterprises
At the recent Samford Sustainable Business Network gathering, curious attendees were treated to a mystery tour of three quite different enterprises. Each presented their sustainability story, revealing a range of strategies and insights.
The mystery business and community enterprises were:
• Promotion Products – a national brand merchandising company that has earned carbon-neutral status. Presenter: Doug
• Samford Patisserie & Café –‘famous’ local bakery cafe that celebrated its 30th birthday last year. Presenter: Anthony
• Samford Farmers Hall – historic community venue in Samford (and venue for this event). Presenters: Volker & Natia. These enterprises have approached sustainability in various ways. Here’s a summary:
• Do lots of small things: Reduce unnecessary packaging, change to lowenergy lights, provide alternatives to plastic bottled water, turn off unused equipment
• Support the community: Recycle or donate ‘waste’ to people who can use it. For example, the Patisserie has a ‘free for all’ table with recyclable items and food waste for composting. Samford Farmers Hall supports community events and asks hirers to minimise and manage waste.
• Improve the supply chain: Use local suppliers (the Patisserie buys meat and veggies locally). Promotion Products audited its supply chain to promote the most sustainable suppliers and sell more eco-friendly products.

• Use renewable energy: Switch to renewable energy suppliers and install rooftop solar panels if possible.
• Get accreditation: Attain relevant eco credentials. Promotion Products has ISO:14001 certification and Carbon Neutral status. Green Street tools like the Sustainability Roadmap can help plan this process.
• Educate and advocate: Encourage customers to make more sustainable choices. Promotion Products points clients to useful, long-lasting merchandise instead of ‘swag’ (Stuff We All Get) that ends up in the bin. Samford Patisserie helps change habits by providing recycling tubes for take-away coffee cups. The Farmers Hall helps educate hall users about running sustainable events.
Samford Sustainable Business Network, facilitated by Green Street, promotes collaboration for sustainable communities. Auspiced by Rotary Club of Samford Valley, it is supported by City of Moreton Bay Council and Samford & Districts Chamber of Commerce. Find out more at greenstreet. net.au.

EVENTS & ACTIVITIES
Pilates Lifestyle and Wellbeing
There is much talk in the Pilates industry about the difference between Classical and Contemporary Pilates style of instruction. At Pilates Lifestyle and Wellbeing we use the Classical approach from the MERRITHEW training system for all our Beginners sessions. The understanding of the 5-Basic Principles and learning to connect a well aligned body, is vital in order to really enjoy and have fun with the advanced repertoire in the Classical approach, and to then move into the Contemporary approach, using weights and more or less doing a HIT class on MATS and large equipment.
The Classical 5-Basic Principles sets the body up to be able to move at different speeds, different directions and move through space with an ease that does not cause injury.
The more Contemporary approach, whilst it broadens the repertoire to include weights and cater to those who are looking for a 45 minute workout where they can mentally switch off and follow the instructor, does not allow for growth in better body alignment, overall strength and understanding of ones’ own body. It is true as instructors we all strive to provide a
service for many and varied desires of our clients, so both approaches are necessary. It is up to the clients to decide what they are wanting from their sessions.
Through March this year, as an instructor, I have been so excited and grateful to see clients from our Tuesday morning and Wednesday evening MAT classes being able to ‘have a go’ at the advanced work from the Classical repertoire and “confidently achieve“ a section of Pilates Flow Work from the Contemporary Repertoire. Six (6) clients who have been attending for many years continue to grow and explore new boundaries of their bodies in both the Classical and Contemporary approach.
Jac has trained under the MERRITHEW training systems and brings a fresh and dynamic workout to her REFORMER classes. By working in other studios and physiotherapy practices, Jac has been exposed to a broad variety of styles of instructing. We are extremely lucky to have Jac bringing all this knowledge and experience to our studio in Samford. Every Thursday morning at 9.30am Jac runs a MAT class using small equipment to present a fun class.
From Thursday 24th April to Thursday 26th June, Pilates Lifestyle and Wellbeing will have a SPECIAL OFFER for this class at
a reduced rate of $250.00 for the 10 weeks to new members wishing to join.
Contact Dorothy 0432 269 472 or Jac 0417 716 462 or visit www.pilateslifestyle.com. au to sign up.
Ensemble Cherubim
This classical music ensemble will be performing at Elm House in Mount Glorious on Sunday 27th April at 3:30pm. The performance will include Schubert’s beloved String Quintet in C major and some of his lieder arranged for strings to start the concert.
The ensemble will be performing with Glenn Christensen who is an internationally renowned violinist and is sure to bring this concert beautifully to life.
Directed by Rory Smith and Clare Cooney, both young freelance musicians from Brisbane. They created the ensemble because of a deep love and passion for chamber music.

“Clare and I love to share our passion for music with audiences and we’re excited to perform at Elm House in Mount Glorious,” said Rory.
Tickets: $35 for adults, $25 for under 18’s. Tickets are limited and available at https:// events.humanitix.com/radiance-h5er4cgs (humanitix.com).

DICKSON ELECTORATE UPDATE
Let’s Get Australia Back on Track!
The federal election has been called for 3 May, and the choice couldn’t be clearer— who can better manage our economy and keep Australians safe so you and your family can get ahead. We live in the best country in the world, but for the last three years, life has got harder. Rents have soared, grocery prices are through the roof, power bills have spiked, and local families are paying tens of thousands more on their mortgages. There is a better way. The Coalition has a practical plan to strengthen the economy, provide immediate cost-of-living relief, and fix Labor’s housing crisis and energy policy mess.
The Coalition’s plan includes:
•Immediate cost of living relief by halving the petrol excise;
•Lowering energy prices through our National Gas Plan;
•Cutting Immigration and building more homes for Australians;
•Keeping Australian safe with a focus on national security and defence;
•Guaranteed funding for health,
education and essential services.
If you need a postal vote, please call my office. Early voting begins on Tuesday, 22 April.
Budget in Reply
On Tuesday 27 March, I outlined my reply to the Budget. The Coalition has a clear plan to ease cost-of-living pressures, cut energy prices, boost housing supply, and strengthen the economy. You can read my speech here: www.liberal.org. au/2025/03/27/budget-in-reply
ANZAC Day
ANZAC Day is our chance to let our servicemen and women – past and present – know that their service and sacrifice is remembered, appreciated, and honoured. This year marks 80 years since the end of the Second World War. In Europe, the war ended on 8 May 1945, VE Day, when Germany surrendered. However, for Australia, the war didn’t end until 15 August 1945, when Japan accepted the surrender terms, marking Victory in the Pacific (VP Day).
Nearly 40,000 Australians lost their lives, over 30,000 were taken as prisoners of war, and many others were left with lifelong physical and mental scars.
Look out for my Commemorative Newsletter in your mailbox with details of local services. I encourage you to attend. Contact Me
