COLOUR, COMMUNITY AND KINDNESS If there was ever a day that perfectly captured the spirit of Samford State School, it was our Rainbow Run. The last day of Term 2 was a spectacular explosion of colour, laughter and community spirit as we came together to raise funds for Neuroblastoma Australia, a cause chosen by our Student Council and one close to our hearts. Our Student Council is made up of two elected representatives from each Year 3 to Year 6 class. Students nominate themselves before being voted in by their peers, perhaps the greatest endorsement a young leader can receive. Fundraising Throughout the year, the council chooses charities and plans fundraising events that make a genuine difference. Past favourites have included pyjama days, spooky bake sales and the Cutest Dog Competition. This year’s Rainbow Run was another outstanding success, raising $2,713 for Neuroblastoma Australia. Senior teachers Ange Diem and Jess Reed proudly guide the Student Council, but they’ll quickly tell you that the students lead the way.
“Working with the Student Council is incredibly rewarding because students have the opportunity to represent their peers and make a positive difference,” Mrs Diem said. “Watching them grow in confidence and realise their ideas can create meaningful change is one of the best parts of my role.” Deputy Principal Maddi Creasey has known many of this year’s senior leaders
since their Year 4 camp and says one thing has always stood out. “Kindness has always been their loudest quality. It was evident then how much they genuinely cared for one another, and it comes as no surprise to see them now leading our school with such empathy and enthusiasm.” Continued on Page 12
