Our Muster night held on Friday 12th February was a huge success. We welcome all our new and existing families and players to the season as we field teams from under 6s through to under 17s, as well as two opens men’s team this year. It’s not too late to register or join any of our teams so get in touch.

Our Tots (3 – 5 years) will be commencing Thursday 17th March at 5.15pm. On our first couple of training sessions, we will have support from the Queensland Rugby League - fantastic news for our Tots program.

Players, managers and coaches get together at the muster. FIELD UPGRADE

Unfortunately, this upgrade has been delayed due to COVID and weather. Handover was due by end of January 2022 but has now been revised and assured by Council for handover at the end of March 2022.

Sadly for us, this means we will not be able to host the first Pine Cup game against Dayboro this year. This game will now be played at Dayboro on 26th February with the main game kicking off at 7.30pm. The Dayboro President and Committee has offered Samford the running of the can bar on the day and we will also have some raffles. A couple of support buses will leave the Samford clubhouse at 5pm, returning to the club at 9.15pm for live music, nibbles and Man Of The Match awards.

For anyone wanting to secure a seat for the night, please contact Club Secretary Rachael: 0409 056 918 or Vice President Phil McIntosh 0477 111 125. The Pine Cup Samford and Dayboro game will return to Samford for the first round in 2023.

Our new can bar is on track to be completed by the end of March and will coincide with the launch of our field upgrade. Watch our Facebook page for further information.

SUSTAINABLE SAMFORD, OR ARE WE?

Nations of the world have agreed to achieve 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Green Street, the Samford Sustainable Business Network and the social network of Sustainable Samford, are aiming to do things which will help achieve these goals. Some of these are aimed to have a direct effect on our community and others are more likely to assist in less developed countries.

This edition we are highlighting the eleventh SDG “Sustainable Cities and Communities” and what businesses or communities might do to - “Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”.

Rapid urbanisation has caused many inconveniences such as over-tight dwellings, lack of infrastructure and air pollution. Goals for 2030 in less developed countries are set to respond to outbreaks in informal settlements and slums, improve access to convenient public transport and encourage sustainable lifestyles in all countries.

Businesses and individuals can encourage their community to lead a sustainable life by educating them and involving them in their sustainable activities. Indeed, the whole process of Samford Futures, as endorsed by the Samford & Districts Progress & Protection Association (SDPPA) and a large community gathering, was designed to do just that. Inside 10 years of the Futures plan being adopted, many of those activities have been undertaken.

Curious? Go to www.samfordfutures. org to see what the Samford community’s collective wisdom was in 2013 and see what has or has not been done so far.

If you would like to initiate similar projects relating to sustainable businesses and communities, please email info@ greenstreet.net.au or call 0407 190 162 or write about it in the next Village Pump.
