2021 Finance Officer of the Year Goes to...
The following was read by Lori Heumiller, SDGFOA President and City of Salem Finance Officer, when presenting the Award.

The highlight of our luncheon today is honoring our Finance Officer of theYear. Ourindependentjudges,onceagain,founditverydifficult to pick a winner as all were very deserving. Each nomination highlighted the contributions the Finance Officers make to their communities through the endless hours they put in both professionally and personally.
According to the nomination letter, this year’s winner is simply an awesome person! This person is a wonderful advocate for the city and is a competent, capable, and knowledgeablefinanceofficer.Theyarealwayswillingto assist new finance officers and serve as a sounding board. This person is a founding member of the regional finance officer’s group and is a long-time member of several other local and statewide boards whose organizations serve municipalities.
This person has been instrumental in implementing several key programs that provide both efficiencies and increasedrevenueofhundredsofthousandsofdollarsfor the city they serve. Many of these programs provide online access to city services that have been especially valuable to citizens during the last year.
This person is a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, loves her dogs and makes a mean salsa!
I am extremely honored to be presenting the 2021 Finance Officer of the Year Award to Fay Bueno of Sturgis!
