MILBANK
BRANDY BLAUERT | ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
We pride ourselves on our involvement in the legacy of American Legion Baseball, which was first proposed in Milbank, during the 1925 American Legion state convention. American Legion Baseball continues to be one of the most successful and tradition-rich amateur athletic leagues.

In 2023, Milbank was named Community of the Year by the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. Our comfortable population, booming economy, extensive growth in our park and recreation department, and platted lots for home development keep us rising above.

Our 120-acre park system will soon feature a splash pad in Hurley Park, a skate park in Flynn Park, two collegiatesized soccer fields, and expanded fullservice camping at Lake Farley Park.
Lake Farley Park also boasts the home of the new Legion Field, a tribute to Milbank as the Birthplace of American Legion Baseball. The highly anticipated opening of the new field, the cornerstone to a whole baseball complex, is scheduled for the spring of 2024. A comprehensive trails plan is currently underway in an effort to connect all of these amenities and more.
Similar to many South Dakota towns, Milbank started as a railroad community in 1880 when the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad first laid track in South Dakota. We continue to utilize our railroad roots by providing local distribution of ethanol, granite, and grain.

The history of our area is rich, which is on display at the Grant County Museums and within the Milbank Visitor’s Center by way of artifacts and memorabilia maintained by the Grant County Historical Society.
Home development is underway in the southeastern part of the city, with other developments in the planning stages on the northern side. Two new apartment buildings are expected to start within the next year. A new senior living complex has opened in the past six months featuring independent living, assisted living, as well as a memory-care unit.
Milbank’s exceptional location, situated along the Historic Yellowstone TrailUS Hwy 12 and SD Hwy 15, allows us to serve as the hospitality hub to the glacial lakes region. While visiting you can enjoy fishing, hunting, hiking, and all the excitement that northeast South Dakota has to offer.
Surrounded by rich agricultural land, our economy thrives on dairy products, livestock, grains, granite quarrying, food processing, warehousing, telemarketing, an outstanding education system, modern healthcare facilities, and most importantly, wonderful people.
Welcome to Milbank, we hope to see you soon! ■ www.milbanksd.com
