Dear Reader,
Thanks for picking up this guide. You’ve probably heard great things about Cornwall and SDG Counties but we think you need to experience it in person to understand why we love it here—and why you will too.
We’ve packed the following pages with ideas for your visit. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned visitor, we promise you’ll find something intriguing, beguiling, tasty, and inspiring. We invite you to join us as we ride our bikes through the city or out on the open road, savour local flavours at our eateries, take in the vivid sights and sounds of our festivals and fairs, learn about the people who came before us, grab goodies at our shops or pick berries from our fields. Or maybe you’d rather come along as we taste test seasonal freshness at our farmers’ markets, sun ourselves at the beach, take in a show, camp by the riverside, raise a pint in our breweries or clink glasses in our vineyards?
Our invitation is always open. We hope to see you soon.
Warmly yours,
The team at Cornwall Tourism and SDG Tourism

Getting Here
This region is beautifully protected from the hustle and bustle of the big cities—but not so far that we don’t enjoy their vibrant influence. Our communities are all within a short one-hour drive from Ottawa and Montreal, and a quick jaunt from Northern New York. Each place is easily accessible via Highways 401 and 417, and NY Route 37 via the Three Nations Bridge Crossing.
Our home is located on the traditional lands of the Haudenosaunee People, specifically the Kanien’keha:ka (Mohawk). We are grateful to be able to live and work here and give thanks to those who have cared for these lands since time immemorial. We also recognize their continued contributions to the strength of our communities.
We’d like to think our region has a timeless appeal. From the mid-sized hub city of Cornwall to the picturesque villages like Williamstown in the east and Williamsburg in the west, our residents are proud. Our people inspire us, our deep history grounds us, our waterways and green spaces calm us, and our farmers’ fields abundantly feed us

Cornwall
As more and more people discover the city’s allure, Cornwall continues to transform itself. The cultural diversity paired with the dynamic restaurants, shops, events, art, and activities—plus affordable housing and easy commuting—has helped grow this bilingual community into a more progressive place. Downtown Cornwall, also known as the Square Mile, features historic homes, an impressive public library, an exceptional art gallery, several retail-andrestaurant strips, and Lamoureux Park, the 43 acres of green space along the waterfront. Le Village, the city’s secondary commercial district, encompasses the Cotton Mill District, an ongoing urban renewal project with residential and commercial projects that capitalize on the history and long-lasting beauty of former manufacturing facilities.
SDG COUNTIES
North Dundas
Teeming with energy, this is the SDG municipality closest to the nation’s capital and one of the largest agri-food clusters east of Toronto. Farms, fairs, feasts, and other fun drive the tourism economy here.
South Dundas
A beautiful blend of urban and rural communities that hug the shoreline of the St. Lawrence River, this municipality has the distinction of being the site of significant battles that defined our dominion and also being recognized as the place where the McIntosh Apple was discovered.
North Stormont
Families, food, and fun grow here. Their quaint communities have much to share—including fun fairs, exciting agri-tourism destinations, expansive parks, and a relaxed pace of living.
Akwesasne
Akwesasne translates to “Land where the partridge drums”. This Mohawk community is truly exceptional. Pre-dating the founding of Canada and the United States, Akwesasne sits along the banks of the St. Lawrence River where present-day Ontario, Quebec, and New York State meet. Portions
of the territory—including Kawehnoke (Cornwall Island)— are on the Canadian side, while the mainland extends south into the American side. It is one of the few First Nation communities in Canada that shares these unique geographic features. Today, the community is known for its events like the Pow Wow
South Stormont
This is a place that capitalizes on its natural spaces and celebrates its heritage too. It is perhaps best known as the home of the Lost Villages Museum and Long Sault Parkway, a group of picturesque islands just west of Cornwall.
North Glengarry
Imbued with a love for French and Anglo-Scottish traditions, this community is made up of descendants of original settlers and many former city dwellers who appreciate family-run businesses, vast outdoor spaces, and easy access to urban centres.
South Glengarry
Taking up a big swath of Lake St. Francis’ shoreline, South Glen is punctuated with postcard-perfect villages, sandy beaches, scenic drives, delightful B&Bs, great golf, and historical landmarks.
and Akwesasne Art Market & Juried Show, cultural tours, and vibrant craftspeople including basketmakers, beaders, and lacrosse stick makers.

Wheelie Fun
The Cornwall and SDG Counties region has blown up as a cycling destination thanks to gradual and consistent infrastructure investments. We have it all here: dedicated bike routes, ribbons of country roads, forested trails, and a purpose-built race track. Ride on!
With the hard-earned designation as a Silver Bicycle-Friendly City, Cornwall has 40+ kilometres of dedicated bike lanes, 62+ kilometres of off-street recreation paths, and 100% bike rack-equipped transit buses which makes exploring the city on two wheels attractive. A coveted section of that network is the Riverside Trail, an uninterrupted 18-kilometre jaunt on the length of Cornwall’s waterfront. It’s also part of the larger Great Lakes Waterfront Trail that continues west for
another 25 kilometres to Upper Canada Village near Morrisburg, and east for 45 kilometres to the Quebec border. Bike rentals are available at Marina 200 and you can park-and-ride for free from the Civic Complex—the perfect launch point for a ride.
Cyclists who want to stretch their legs on longer open-road tours can hop on any of the 19 Adventure Club Routes established by Cornwall and SDG Counties. There are more than 1,000

kilometres of road riding that meander through the region with waypoints at major local landmarks, shops, restaurants, and parks.
For fat biking and mountain biking trails, point your wheels towards Guindon Park in Cornwall and Summerstown Trails in Summerstown. Each park has 10 kilometres of dedicated trails in summer and winter. Fat bike rentals are available at Summerstown Trails.
Bicycle motocross riders can hit up one of Ontario’s longest and top-ranked tracks at the Cornwall BMX Club. There are casual, open ride times, coaching clinics, as well as 40+ races per year.
For sales and service, two Cornwall bike shops— Total Cyclery and Bicycle World —will gladly welcome you with a smile.

Four for Fore
We asked our resident golf expert to share the most memorable (read: challenging) local holes.
Hole #11
at the Cornwall Golf and Country Club, Glen Walter
“This dogleg left par 5 is known for “The Guard”, an ancient and mighty oak tree near the green. A good tee shot will get most players past or right of the fairway bunker. “The Guard” on the left and bush on the right makes for a narrow neck to a double-tier green. Whatever you do, if the pin is in the front, don’t hit it long!
Hole #3
MacLennan Course at Summerheights
Golf Links, Cornwall
“This short par 4 at just 322 yards may
look simple. But you must place your ball in the middle of the fairway to have your best chance of hitting the green. Instead of reaching for your driver, the smart option is to use a shorter club for precision rather than distance! The green is also angled away from the fairway with a huge bunker protecting the right side so come in high, especially if the pin is in the back.”
Hole #11
at the Glengarry Golf and Country Club, Alexandria
“Your tee shot must be placed just so! Hit it right and you won’t
have a shot into this uphill par 4 green. Too far left? You’ll have a really long shot to a well-protected green. Did I mention that there’s also a creek that comes into play?”
Hole #14
at Upper Canada Golf Club, Morrisburg
“At 547 yards this par 5 is not for the weakkneed. With water up the left side and trees along the right, this is a shotmaker’s hole. Three consecutive shots must be hit precisely or you'll find yourself in trouble. Practice patience and try not to be overly aggressive. Take your 5 and move along!
