It’s official. You’re a UCF Knight! You have chosen to be a member of a dedicated and dynamic community that values diversity, innovation and academic excellence.

In collaboration with UCF’s colleges and divisions, the Division of Student Learning and Academic Success provides services that will help you know more and do more. We’ll help you explore majors, register for classes, develop study skills and prepare for what comes next.

As you begin your college career, I would encourage you to: • Create a path to graduation. The Pegasus Path is an interactive tool that will help you map your entire time at UCF, including co-curricular learning opportunities.

• Ask for help. The Knights Major Exploration and Transition Center will help you select the degree program that suits your academic interests and your post-graduation plans. The Student Academic Resource Center provides tutoring support and helps you build study skills.

• Participate in co-curricular academic experiences. Learning also takes place outside of the classroom. Participate in educational opportunities, such as study abroad, undergraduate research and internships. The Integrative Academic Center for Engagement (iACE) will explain your options and help you select the experiences that support your academic and professional goals.

You are on a once-in-a-lifetime journey, and the Student Learning and Academic Success team will be with you every step of the way!

UCF DOWNTOWN UCF Downtown, in partnership with Valencia College, brings more than 7,000 students to live, learn and work in downtown Orlando, creating a game-changing campus in the heart of our great city. Made up of several buildings, the new shared campus incorporates innovative technology to create a 21st-century learning environment.

The library offers services including book checkout, DVDs, course reserves, printing/ copying/scanning, study spaces, computers, and research assistance. Students can use the library website to chat with a librarian and access databases for publications and journals.

The Writing Center (WC) offers free 30-minute writing consultations on an appointment basis for students who need assistance with all types of writing.

The Learning Support Center (LSC) offers free tutoring for the general education program offered on campus, as well as free equipment rentals.

IT support and tech lending can help students with troubleshooting issues with their computers and borrow technology like cameras, MacBooks, laptops, cables and more! IT Support can also provide troubleshooting for free printing and pay-for-print services.

As a 21st-century campus, we have infused technology into our infrastructure to create secured access to campus buildings after hours. Access is managed using the UCF Card, which also serves as your campus photo ID.

The campus store, which is operated by Barnes and Noble, will offer course materials, technology, school supplies, school memorabilia and café options with seating.

Parking Services provides students information about transportation and parking. UCF Students are able to use the UCF Downtown Express Shuttle to get to main campus and vise versa. Students are also able to purchase a parking permit to park on UCF Downtown.

Undergraduate advising for the College of Community Innovation & Education and Nicholson School of Communication & Media are available on campus. Academic advisors help to review academic progress, plan for future terms, prepare for internship applications and discuss career goals and opportunities.

First Stop is a one stop shop for enrollment services and can answer many of your questions as a new student on campus from department including UCF Undergraduate Admissions, Student Financial Assistance and Registrar’s Office.

UWCV is UCF’s newest student resident community. UWCV is a 15-story building with restaurants on the ground floor, student services, classrooms and amenities conveniently located on floors 1–5, and student residences on floors 6–15.

Student Engagement Downtown provides students with the opportunity to become actively involved on the campus through events, activities and student clubs/organizations. This area also includes programming and services from LGBTQ+ Services, the Multicultural Student Center, and Social Justice and Advocacy. Student Engagement offers free printing on UWCV 3rd floor and free testing supplies at the UWCV 200 front desk.

4EVER KNIGHTS (4EK) is one of the largest student organizations on campus. It's your ticket to exclusive events, discounts on and off campus, and leadership opportunities. The mission of 4EVER KNIGHTS is to educate students on the importance of establishing and maintaining a lifelong relationship with UCF. 4EVER KNIGHTS Ambassadors

4EVER KNIGHTS Ambassadors are the official student representatives of the UCF Advancement office. They serve as the governing body of one of the largest student organizations on campus.

Ambassadors host multiple events to connect students with alumni, volunteer at dozens of alumni and donor events and educate the student body about philanthropy at UCF and the importance of maintaining a lifelong relationship with the institution.

UCF Class Gift Volunteers

UCF Class Gift is an opportunity for students to give back to their favorite area of UCF. Students can make a philanthropic donation to scholarships, the food pantry, a service, college, department, athletics and more! Led by 4EVER KNIGHTS, this student-for-student initiative hopes to illustrate the importance of philanthropy at our institution. Class gift volunteers are the backbone of the campaign, educating the student body, encouraging their peers and dedicating themselves to student philanthropy.

Students who enter the University as an undeclared or exploratory student will work with an academic advisor in the Knights Major Exploration and Transition Center to strategically decide on an appropriate major. Once the new major has been established, the student will be transitioned to the appropriate college advising office. Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is a free-of-charge campus agency designated to provide psychological services to university-enrolled students.

Our staff is comprised of licensed (or license-eligible) psychologists, mental health counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists as well as graduate interns who provide a confidential environment in which students may explore and resolve issues of concern.

CAPS services include initial assessment and referral services, short term individual or couples counseling, group therapy and workshops, consultation services to faculty, staff students and parents, crisis intervention, afterhours crisis phone services, on-line mental health treatments, presentations and programming focused on development and prevention, and graduate student training programs for mental health professions. Every freshman and transfer student is required to attend an Orientation session prior to registering for classes. In addition, LINK assists both First Time in College (FTIC) and Transfer students in their transition by creating, coordinating, and promoting campus-wide co-curricular educational programming and activities.

In addition to programming, FYE also offers SLS 1501: Strategies for Success, a freshman seminar course designed to provide students with the necessary skills to be academically successful and engage in the UCF Community.

STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESS (SLS 1501) fye.sdes.ucf.edu/sls SLS 1501 is a 3-credit elective letter grade course that counts towards your graduation hours. You are highly encouraged to enroll in SLS 1501 during your respective orientation session.

SLS 1501 will prepare you to be successful at UCF by building a strong academic foundation through developing important life and study skills. The Executive Branch is led by the Student Body President who serves as a member of UCF’s Board of Trustees.

The Legislative Branch’s 63 student senators are elected proportionately from UCF’s various colleges. The Judicial Branch’s 14 justices serve as the highest appellate court for student appeals. Justices protect student rights by serving on several committees (e.g.

IMPORTANT POLICIES AND PROCEDURES Drop/Swap/Add Policy Drop/Swap: A student may drop/swap courses during Drop/Swap period (one day before the end of the Add period).

A dropped class will not appear on the permanent record. To drop after the Drop/ Swap period, the Withdrawal Policy must be followed.

Add: A student may add a course during the Add period (until the end of the first week of classes). Drop/Swap/Add may be accomplished via my.UCF.edu or in the Registrar’s Office. After the Add period, no course may be added.

Withdrawal Policy A student may withdraw from a class and receive a “W” until the end of the withdrawal deadline of any regular semester or summer term. Withdraw from a course on-line at my.ucf.edu > Student Self Service > Student Center > Enroll. At the next page, click on the drop/withdraw tab and choose the current semester.

Choose the course(s) to withdraw from, and continue to click the green buttons. No withdrawal is permitted after the deadline except in unusual circumstances such as serious medical problems.

Students who need to petition for a late withdrawal should consult Academic Services, located in Millican Hall, Room 210 or contact the office via acadserv@ucf. edu. If a student was passing, a “WP” will appear on the student’s record; if failing, a “WF” will be entered. There is no tuition refund for withdrawn courses.

Grade Forgiveness A UCF course may be repeated in which case the grade earned in the first attempt is replaced by the grade in the second attempt and recalculated in the GPA. Students have only two chances to forgive grades in their academic career. Grade Forgiveness may NOT be used twice for the same course. The deadline to apply for grade forgiveness is the last day of classes in the semester in which the course is repeated. Apply for Grade Forgiveness online at my.ucf.edu > Student Self Service > Student Center > other academic…> Grade Forgiveness: Application.

Third Attempt Surcharge All students enrolled in undergraduate courses are subject to surcharges when they enroll in the same undergraduate college-credit course 3 or more times.

Completed courses, withdrawals, and courses with incomplete grades are counted as attempts, including courses repeated in order to raise GPA or achieve a specific grade.

Excess Hours All students should make every effort to enroll in and complete only once those courses that are required for their major.

Although educationally beneficial, selected courses, minors (unless required for a specific major) and additional majors or degrees may require students to take excess hours. Excess hours may require students to pay an additional surcharge/ fee or may negatively impact eligibility for certain financial aid programs. Students should review their degree audits regularly and consult with an academic advisor to make sure they are not enrolling in excess courses. For more information of the Excess Hours surcharge, please go to registrar.ucf.edu/excess-hours Undeclared Policy All students at the University of Central Florida are expected to officially declare a major prior to earning 45 college credit hours (this includes credits earned from CLEP, Dual Enrollment, AP, and IB). An administrative hold to prevent future university registration will be placed on the records of all students that have not declared a major by this time. Students must meet with an academic advisor to have the hold released.

Students Must Obtain Their Registration Appointment Times The registration appointment times are available through myUCF at my.ucf.edu.

To obtain your Registration Appointment, log into myUCF and click “Student Self Service”, then “Student Center”. Look to the right hand side of the page for a box titled “Enrollment Dates” and then click on “details.” Click the term link for which you seek an appointment time. The resulting screen will display the day and time at which you may begin to register. The appointment time is the student’s first opportunity to register for courses for that term.

Students Must Complete the Immunization Form Prior to registering, all students (including transient students) must have a University of Central Florida Immunization Form on file in Student Health Services (STHL).

Vaccination proof is not required for SUS transient students nor for student veterans with a DD214 or military/retired military ID. A copy of the SUS transient form must accompany the Immunization Form for vaccination exemption.

Get your “Degree Audit” and Enrollment Appointment from myUCF and Meet With Your Advisor Your myKnightAudit is available through myUCF at my.ucf.edu > Student Self Service > other academic > Degree Audit/ myKnightAudit; click on the >> button.

There you will see the instructions for reading your Degree Audit. Your assigned Academic Advisor can help choose those courses that will meet degree requirements.

9-Credit Hour Summer Requirement Students entering the Florida State University System for the first time with fewer than 60 semester hours of credit are required to enroll in a minimum of 9 credit hours during a summer at a four-year Florida state university. This requirement must be met before graduation. Consult the UCF Undergraduate Catalog or Academic Services in Millican Hall, Room 210, for more information.

Students Must Clear All Registration Holds ASAP Log in to myUCF at my.ucf.edu. Within the “myUCF Menu” pagelet, click “Student Self Service.” Look to the right hand side of the page for a box titled “Holds”. If there are holds, click on the link; the resulting screen will list each of your current holds, services unavailable to you until you satisfy the hold requirements and contact information for the office that placed the hold.

Obtain a copy of your Fee Invoice.

The “Fee Invoice” is your verification of registration. Use the “Fee Invoice” to determine the amount due for classes taken and pay this amount by the appropriate payment deadline. If you change your schedule, obtain another “Fee Invoice” both to verify the changes and to determine any new or revised charges you may have incurred. You may print your “Fee Invoice” through myUCF Student Self Service under the “Finances.”

Class Schedule Print a new class schedule before going to your first class each term. This will give you any updates in rooms. Take time before the first day of class to go to each of your classrooms if you do not know their locations.

The Student Academic Resource Center, also known as SARC, provides highquality programs and services that enable UCF students to achieve their academic goals. Programs include: Supplemental Instruction (SI), peer tutoring, Academic Coaching & Engagement (ACE), Academic Success Workshops, Online Peer Assisted Learning (OPAL), and Study Union.

SI focuses on aiding students enrolled in historically difficult courses such as human anatomy, biology, chemistry, microbiology, physics, and select computer science and engineering courses. By attending these peer-led study sessions, students have an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of course content and to learn study skills and test taking strategies.

Free peer tutoring is also available for many UCF subject areas such as accounting, physics, engineering, statistics and biology in the main SARC tutoring lab (TCH 117). In total, SARC provides group tutoring and one-on-one tutoring for more than 30 different courses.

The ACE Program provides free oneon-one, ongoing peer coaching to help undergraduate and graduate students develop important academic and life skills. Additionally, SARC offers a series of Academic Success Workshops designed to address common student issues such as time management, goal setting, and overcoming procrastination.

OPAL sessions allow students to participate in online study groups with a SARC peer tutor or SI leader from anywhere. OPAL sessions are a great option for students who are not able to attend regularly scheduled peer tutoring or SI sessions at UCF’s Main Orlando Campus.

To end every Fall and Spring semester, SI leaders and tutors host several review sessions in the Student Union to help prepare students for final exams.

UCF Student Health Services provides a variety of primary and specialty care outpatient services to help students achieve their optimum health. All registered UCF students can use our services regardless of health insurance coverage. We are committed to providing the UCF community with quality healthcare, and as such maintain accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.

Students are required to pay a statemandated health fee each semester based on the number of credit hours enrolled.

This fee is not insurance, but covers most of the financial responsibility associated with office visits. Additional services/ medical supplies are either billed to insurance or you can take advantage of our low self-pay prices.

Our primary care providers participate in Aetna, AvMed, Cigna, Florida Blue PPO & BlueOptions, Tricare, and United Healthcare. If your policy provides outof-network benefits, you will need to file for services incurred with your insurance provider. Our Pharmacy participates in over 100 prescription plans.

Our pharmacy provides the products and convenience that you expect, tailored for the unique needs of our patients.

We accept prescriptions from both our internal providers, as well as others outside in the community. Our Dental Clinic provides a range of services at reduced costs for students.

Group-based peer tutoring to undergraduate UCF students. No appointment is necessary and schedules can be found on our website or at tutoring locations on campus. Subject areas include: Accounting, Statistics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Human Physiology.

STUDENT CARE SERVICES Student Care Services (SCS) offers guidance, resources, and referrals to UCF students who are experiencing a distressing situation which significantly impacts academic or personal success. In order to assist and refer persons in need, the staff is knowledgeable of both campus and community resources. STUDENT SUPPORT DESK Within Technology Commons II and the Classroom 1 Lab, students have access to UCF’s Student Support Desk. These desks provide a place for students to ask technology related questions, check-in broken devices for repair, and get support for their personal devices. Our Student Support Desk is connected to an oncampus repair center that maintains Apple and Dell certifications, providing students with convenient access for any Apple or Dell warranty work.

Along with providing technology support, the Student Support Desk offers computers, iPads, charging cables for phones and computers, cameras, and other accessories for short and long term rentals.

Established in 1973, UCFPD currently employs more than 80 sworn law enforcement officers who provide police services on the main campus and at UCF Downtown, Rosen College of Hospitality Management and the UCF College of Medicine, as well as at several universityaffiliated housing communities.

UCFPD is an accredited, full-service police department with several specialty units, including K-9s, Investigations, and Community Partnerships. The department’s mission is to reduce crime and the fear of crime by providing a safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors through the application of community policing.

Crime is a reality everywhere, including UCF. To combat this, UCFPD offers several crime prevention programs for the community, including providing safe transportation after hours, selfdefense classes for women, free property registration and two designated parking spots in front of the Police Department for safe e-commerce exchanges.

UCF Alerts will notify the UCF community of an emergency — such as severe weather, criminal activity, an active shooter or a bomb threat — and provide general instructions. Depending on the nature of the emergency, follow-up alerts will contain more detailed information.
