Lights, sports and lawsuits PLHS neighbors to sue over lights BY DAVE SCHWAB | THE BEACON

A lawsuit is pending on behalf of neighbors near Point Loma High School opposed to stadium lights proposed as part of a multi-phase, masterplanned modernization of the 91-year-old school's campus and its athletic facilities. Disregarding the implied threat of a lawsuit, San Diego Unified School District Board May 24 voted 5-0 in favor of an

environmental impact report for proposed campus and athletic facilities upgrades at PLHS. The EIR includes adding new stadium lights. “It's anticipated that a lawsuit will be filed this week claiming, under the California Environmental Quaility Act, that the project violates local land-use and zoning laws, and that the project is not exempt from those laws,” said SEE LIGHTS, Page 12

Sea Gods, a colorful-butaging sculpture that vanished months ago from its site at the foot of Newport Avenue in Ocean Beach, returned home

this week after receiving a major facelift. Conceived in the mid-1990s by San Diegobased artists Matthew Welsh and the late Jill Moon as part of the San Diego’s effort to enhance neighborhoods with
