New Student Services

PROPOSITIONS S & N FACILITIES UPDATE – May 2010 May puts us in the “home stretch” of this semester. And yet, several new construction projects are just starting. During exam week, there will be construction work ongoing in the fire lane north of K-200 and noise levels will be kept to a minimum as a courtesy. We will also take the first steps of the “Mesa Shuffle” this summer in preparation for the Math + Science Building construction. Thanks to all of you for your part in making these projects successful. Ron Perez, Vice President of Administrative Services

Mesa College Design Center Let it begin! On May 7th, work began on the Mesa College Design Center renovation project. The project consists of renovations to six existing single-story buildings that were formerly used as an Elementary School. The buildings will be renovated to function as the Mesa College Design Center, which will house classrooms, labs, faculty offices, and support spaces for Mesa College’s Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Building Construction Technology, and Interior Design programs. The existing six buildings comprise a total of approximately 25,000 square feet, and the renovations will include new exterior landscaping and paving, new interior and exterior finishes, new ceilings and lighting, upgrades to the existing mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, upgrades to the existing fire alarm and security systems, and new interior and exterior signage. The work is scheduled to complete in early October.

Central Plant Construction of the new Central Plant is underway north of the Gym and Racquetball Courts. This infrastructure will provide heating and cooling for the new Student Services, the new Math + Science Building, and the I-300 Building. A significant amount of new piping will be placed in the service road, north of K-200 and F-200 buildings. Pedestrian access to the road will be closed off and vehicular delivery access will vary at different phases of the work. Dates listed are approximate. We will keep you posted.
