Get to Know Lucinda Lilley

By Etta Smith, Generation Contracting & Emergency Services

Lucinda Lilley, current SCRHA President, has been a member of the association since 1999 and has been working in property management for 35 years. While many are familiar with her passion for the industry and commitment to the association, this article aims to share some things about Lucinda that you may not know.

Lucinda was born in Deland, FL, and raised in Asheville, N.C. She moved to California in 1984 and has lived here ever since.

Lucinda is married and a mother of three - two sons and a daughter, and a grandmother of two little boys. “I love to spend time with my grandsons,” Lucinda said. “They are hilarious and really are the lights of my life. I’m so proud to be able to watch them grow up in the same town their dad grew up in - Imperial Beach has been a part of our family for almost 40 years.”

Lucinda is dedicated to building bridges….not the kind you drive over! The kind of bridges that connect people. Sometimes we are so intent on being right, we forget that somewhere is a spot where we can meet. Through studying Personal and Leadership Development and Coaching, Lucinda works to intentionally create space for all stakeholders to be valued, heard, recognized, and respected. We may not always get what we originally thought we wanted, but we can always work together to find a great solution.

When asked who she admires most, Lucinda was quick to answer, “John C. Maxwell, because he’s a leader’s leader.” Lucinda is a member of the John Maxwell Team as a certified coach, speaker, and trainer.

“I have a vision,” Lucinda says. “A vision that leadership is empowered with good values – values that are utilized to change our world. Values that place providing rental housing as an honor with a high level of responsibility.” That means that all who are affected by housing provision are at the table: Rental housing owners, Rental housing renters, Rental housing service providers. Rental housing (apartments, houses, condos, duplexes) is a huge part of the economy that keeps people employed. In San Diego Metro, the rental housing industry employs more than 4,000 people. The renovation and repair of rental housing contributes $782 Million to the local economy annually creating another 3,000 jobs. (weareapartments.org)

Lucinda’s ambition, enthusiasm, and relentless work ethic are exemplified in all she has achieved personally and professionally. While 2020 was more challenging than anyone could have imagined, she took that time to refocus on what matters most.

“Every morning I write down the things I’m most grateful for,” Lucinda said. “The thing that has started that list for the past year is I’m grateful for my health, for my strength, and for my family.”
