REDDING’S TOP SIGHTS WHISKEYTOWN NATIONAL RECREATION AREA Home to Whiskeytown Lake, Shasta Bally mountain (6,209 ft.), and four waterfalls, the park provides outdoor enthusiasts opportunities for water recreation, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. LAKE SHASTA CAVERNS NATIONAL NATURAL LANDMARK Enjoy a scenic catamaran cruise across Shasta Lake, a fun bus ride to the cave entrance, and an information-filled tour of what some geologists consider one of the most beautiful limestone caves in the USA! SUNDIAL BRIDGE This glass decked pedestrian bridge reaches 217 feet into the sky, spans 710 feet across the Sacramento River, and is one of the world’s largest working sundials. It’s a local favorite! TURTLE BAY EXPLORATION PARK Turtle Bay Exploration Park is a 300-acre museum along the banks of the Sacramento River with educational and entertaining experiences that interpret the relationship between humans and nature. SHASTA DAM Shasta Dam is a curved gravity dam across the Sacramento River at Lake Shasta and provides beautiful views of the lake and Mt. Shasta. The dam offers free guided tours, each taking two to three hours. SHASTA LAKE Shasta Lake is the largest man made reservoir in California, offering over 360 miles of shoreline when full. Skiing and wakeboarding are popular lake activities, as are kayaking and paddle boarding. SHASTA STATE HISTORIC PARK Six miles west of Redding a row of old, half-ruined, brick buildings showcase the area’s gold rush history. The County Courthouse is also restored to its 1861 appearance and filled with historical exhibits. SACRAMENTO RIVER NATIONAL RECREATION TRAIL The River Trail is popular with locals and visitors alike who want to take a casual stroll, a beautiful bike ride, or a long run. Following the banks of the Sacramento River, it’s the crown jewel of Redding’s trail system.
