AUGUST 2021 Message from the Director of Golf Rick Price, PGA For decades, The Views Golf has overseeded fairways with ryegrass each fall. We have been on a program to skip multiple holes each season, and last year, we were unable to overseed any holes within 50 yards of the green surrounds because of the new turf. We also did not overseed the par 3’s and the driving range tee. Unfortunately, overseeding fairways has serious consequences for year-round playability. In the fall, courses are wet and soft for weeks and carts are restricted to paths as the overseed establishes. During winter, courses face increased weed issues. In spring and early summer, fairway playing conditions can be very inconsistent as the bermudagrass struggles to recover from the overseeding process. These playability issues had long been accepted as necessary evils, but a significant shift has occurred in recent years. Last year, following the greens renovation in the summer, we were still deciding whether or not to skip overseeding because of many reasons. Currently water rates continue to rise, and just recently, we were notified the price of seed has doubled. These increased costs,
