Tee Time Change Effective Sunday, March 1st, all tee times will move up 30 minutes. Tee times will begin at 7:30 am. Shotgun starts will begin at 8:00 am (except Tuesdays) and afternoon shotguns will be at 11:00 (Thursday) and 12:30 PM (Wednesday). Tuesday’s shotgun will remain @ 11:30.

The Men’s Club will begin their Club Championship on March 11th at 8:00 SG the subsequent rounds will be on March 14th (12:30 SG) & March 18th (8:00 SG)

Lost & Found Clubs

The 9 hole Ladies Club will be hosting their Invitational on March 19th with a 9:00 am start time. Please remember that there is NO Men’s 9 Hole Club play that day. The 18 Hole Ladies will be hosting their Member Guest event on March 24th.

Rangers As everyone knows, the Rangers are the eyes and ears for the pro shop and that their job can be a thankless one. I

There are lost and found clubs back by my office and they are for sale ($10.00 per club). The money raised will be donated to Junior Golf.

When the golf shop staff is checking in a shotgun, we ask that any other business transactions be done at another time or that you write down your request and we can take care of it after the shotgun has gone out. With so many people in one place at one time and the phones ringing it is just too hectic to do both. Thank you

Pass Holder Only Golf Derby The next Golf Derby for Pass Holders is going to be on Thursday March 26th at 3:30 pm. The format is a 2 person Alternate shot and the cost is $10pp.

Prizes will be awarded for 1st-4th place (depending on # of entries)

Hit & Giggle

Due to the lack of participation and the month of April being so busy with club events, there will be no Hit & Giggle.

From the Assistant Rick Sample, PGA Want to hit it further and more consistent with your driver? Well I’m going to try to help you with that. I hear it quite often in individual and group lessons that I want to work on my driver. I want to hit it further.

I understand wanting to get more distance with your driver as that makes the next shot a bit easier. It will also be easier if your next shot is from the fairway. So let’s talk about a thing called “Impact Point” or where the ball hit the face of the club and its effect on shots with your driver in particular. We must first understand what the elements are which control how far our ball will go.

How far the ball goes is determined by a few things: 1.

Ball Speed - how fast the ball is traveling directly after impact.

2.

Spin Rate – how many R.P.M.’s of back spin are generated.

3.

Launch Angle – the angle at which the ball launches away from the club.

We’ll take these in order Ball speed is determined by “Club Head Speed” or how fast the club head is moving when it strikes the golf ball 2

and how solidly that strike is against the ball. Solidly meaning how square the face is and how close to the sweet spot the strike is. Certainly if you can generate more club head speed, the ball speed and thus your distance will increase as long as the strike remains solid. However if the strike does not remain solid you might actually lose ball speed and thus distance. A recent study shows how much affect an off center strike has on the speed the ball leaves the face of the club. As you can see no matter which direction you go away from the center or sweet spot, there is a loss of ball speed which means less distance.

Spin rate is determined by the angle at which the club head/club face approaches the ball as well as the solidness of the strike on the ball. Each player has an optimal spin rate depending on the club head speed you generate. Solid/Center face strikes will generate the optimal spin rate for your swing. You need enough spin to create the lift to hold the ball in the air. Too much spin will slow the ball down as it tries to go through the air. If your club head speed is not that high and you hit the ball high on the face you will not

have enough spin to create lift thus your ball will appear to fall out of the sky. If you have a higher ball speed and you hit the ball low on the face you will have too much spin and you will see your ball fight to get through the air robbing you of distance.

Launch angle is determined by the angle at which the club head/club face approaches the ball as well as the solidness of the strike on the ball. An optimal launch angle will get the ball up to travel the maximum distance it can through the air where there is less resistance then let the ball come down at an angle which will allow it to roll out giving you the most distance you can achieve. A ball launched too low will not stay in the air as long and the resistance along the ground will shorten your drive. A ball launched too high will come down with little forward momentum giving less roll again shortening your drive. A solid center face strike will launch the ball at your optimum launch angle with the properly fitted loft on the club face.

As you can now see a solid strike on your golf ball will have a greater effect in giving you more distance than putting out that extra effort to generate a couple more miles per hour of club head speed which usually results in an off center strike. That not only reduces your distance but also accuracy.

Great Shots Heard Around The Views GC Congratulations to Bev Young for her 1st Hole in One!!! Bev recorded her ace on 2/11/15 on hole # 3 using a driver from 130 yards. Witnesses were her husband Jerry, Kathleen Peterson and Stan Sheridan.

Congratulations to Barb Hall for her Hole in One recorded on 2/17/15. Barb used a 6 hybrid from 125 yards on hole # 7. Her witnesses were Karen Bates Glen Ann Hanson and Donna Reimels.
