Pilates

It’s a new year and time to commit to a new exercise routine. Why not try out Pilates? Forty years after his death, the system of exercises developed by Joseph Pilates to strengthen your core muscles has never been in such high demand. Fortunately, SCOV offers his Pilates classes here twice per week. People ask, “Can the benefits of the Pilates method, which come from the strengthening and stretching exercises we do, really develop the body’s core (abdomen and back muscles), increase spine mobility and build flexibility?” The answer is “yes,” and additional benefits you’ll see from taking our group mat classes will also be better balance, more muscle tone and increased stamina. Not only do we have experienced instructors, the cost is only $8/class and annual club dues are $20 pp. Please join us or just stop by and watch. Call Mary Ayers. Pinochle

There is much hidden, as well as visible, talent among the SCOV poets who meet to read and critique their poems on Monday mornings. Nonetheless, it is such a rewarding pleasure when one of our members presents us with a practically perfect gem such as the following description of Writing Poetry by Pearl Joseph. “Finding the perfect word/ Sharp black against white paper/ But sounding soft within/ The empty void fills/ A sharp sibilant explosion/ Shoots high above/ Back and forth/ All the while/ Under the shuttlecocks/ Of sound/ A woven net of meaning.” Based on the individual backgrounds and personal experiences of our members, there may be differences of opinion concerning elements of style, word choice and other poetic devices which produce lively discussions. However, each poet receives positive feedback along with suggestions for improvement and gets to determine how or if a poem should be revised. Poker

The Prepare and Share Club welcomed several new participants at the fall kick-off event where we enjoyed a Mediterranean dinner. We now meet in smaller groups to prepare and share our own meals. Four themes were selected at the kick-off dinner and will be used monthly (December through March) for planning and feasting. European Delight was the theme for December when food enthusiasts gathered in homes to enjoy eating. The other themes chosen were Brunch, Gone Fishing, and Mediterranean Cuisine. Remember to stop at the Prepare and Share table on Friday, February 5 during the Club Fair. Mark your calendars for the off-campus luncheon at the Gallery at Dove Mountain on Thursday, February 25, and the Endof Year gathering on April 8. Sun City Vistoso Quilters
