From The Board of Directors Our mission as the SCOV Board is to lead in maintaining and enhancing the quality of life in Sun City Oro Valley as an active adult community.

by Lou Gard In the near future you are going to have the opportunity to vote for a significant change in the SCOV governing documents. The vote may occur at the coming election for new Board members, or it may come later this year. Any change must be approved by two-thirds of residents voting.

As you know there are many homes in our community that have wonderful views of the Santa Catalina and Tortolita Mountains while there are many more that have marginal views. Residents bought these homes with the expectation that since SCOV was built out, and there would be no more construction, the view they had when they bought will always be there. This has not proven to be the case in some instances. Some seasonal residents are coming back, after several months away, to find that their neighbor has put an addition on their property that restricts to some degree or another the view they had. It is reasonable to assume that any impact on neighbor's views was not considered.

The resident putting on the addition did not do anything to violate the governing documents if they went through the Architectural Review Committee (ARC), as required. They had to present the plans for changes they wanted to make to their existing home. These plans will have required the homeowner to stay within the prescribed setbacks of their property and keep the height under 24 feet. As it stands now the ARC must allow the addition to be built unless it does not fit into the “harmony” (1st Amended Master Declaration, March 28, 2017, Article 5 Section .5.1) of existing surroundings and structures.

Herein lies the rub. How do we as an Association try to protect one homeowner's view and still allow other homeowners to make additions to their property? As you can see it is a huge dilemma. Your Board has approved a Task Force to Preserve and Enhance Lifestyle and Property Values.

This ad hoc committee will attempt to sort out how to give views a place at the table with other valuable and legitimate property rights. As homeowners, you will be given the opportunity to voice your opinions as to any changes by attending committee meetings.

In The Views Restaurant alone we received 2,925 comment cards. Many of the changes you’ve seen over the past year have been the direct result of your comments. Let me share some of the statistics garnered from your comment cards ratings. For the past year the average rating for quality of service was 4.74 out of a possible 5. Average for quality of food was 4.36, and the overall experience average was 4.53.

We certainly appreciate you sharing your thoughts and ideas about The Views Restaurant.

The Board of Directors and committees use forums and surveys to receive input on various aspects of our community from remodeling facilities to developing policies and amending the governing documents.

Thank you so much for sharing your opinions and expertise through all these forms of communication. It is with your input that we can make the community what you want it to be. How to Create Your Dream Home Aesthetics Plus Functionality

ave you thought about remodeling or updating your home, but don’t know where to start? This February we have two great opportunities for remodeling ideas. With two major events scheduled, the Friends of the Library Home Tour on Saturday, February 17, and the SCOV Remodeling Fair on Saturday, February 24, there will be no shortage of inspiration for those dreaming of home improvements.

Brad and Michelin Taylor fell in love with SCOV and began their house hunt.

With much of the available housing stock at the time in original or near original condition, they realized they would be remodeling. They bought their SCOV home in 2014, and their search for a general contractor led them to an Taylors' new dream kitchen. Carolyn Corwin photo. individual with experience building for Del Webb in SCOV. He knew all of the tricks and techniques used in the initial build and was able to advise them on ways to improve the functionality and overall quality of their property, along with giving the entire interior a whole new look. For example, the Taylors wanted to vault the ceiling in the family room addition to match the vault in the adjacent dining room. The contractor knew this was not feasible without all new trusses and roof, a cost-prohibitive venture. Their project included a new kitchen, with cabinetry expanded to the ceiling and extending farther along the wall, creating a more functional space. The remodel also included new bathrooms, remodeled closets, new doors and much more. The Taylors' large corner lot allowed for expanding the former den into a spacious family room with fireplace and a wall of built-in cabinetry.

updated homes.

Many of us carefully weigh the financial cost vs. return on prospective improvements.

According to the National Association of Realtors 2017 Remodeling Impact Report, a kitchen renovation with a $60,000 price tag will recover an estimated $40,000, or 62%, if resold. The report points out another non-measurable benefit to an upgrade, happiness. The report Remodeled master bath with center tower for extra storage. states “81% Carolyn Corwin photo. of remodeling consumers surveyed said they had a greater desire to be at home since completing their kitchen upgrade project, and 81% felt a major sense of accomplishment after the renovation.” So, if you are on the fence, take into consideration the potential enjoyment of your project in addition to the dollars and cents. The Taylors also have some great advice. “Use an experienced reputable licensed insured contractor who has references. Give a lot of thought to the design and scope of what you are trying to achieve. Don’t skimp on quality of products.”

Words of wisdom: The Taylors will share what they have learned from their remodeling experience with us at the Remodeling Fair on February 24.

If you have, you would be right. Since 2012, SCOV’s population has changed by almost 50%. Yes, that is correct. Over half of you are new to SCOV in the past six years. For those of you in the new group, welcome… we’re glad you’re here. For those of you in the seasoned group, enjoy meeting new friends and neighbors. This is an exciting time to be living here, so much to do, so many great people to meet.

If you’re interested in the statistics here goes: ownership changed in 2012 by 7.15%, 2013 by 8.64%, 2014 by 8.52%, 2015 by 7.8%, 2016 by 9.45% and 2017 by 8.32%. Cumulatively these add up to a 49.88% change. Special thanks to David Johnson for compiling these stats.

I am happy to say that the kids' activity packs I made were handed out to 100 kids. I got great feedback for all the things that the kids had to do. There were puzzles, pages to color (crayons were included), crafts to make and more. We also handed out a packet of information of places to take kids while visiting SCOV. I still have some packets left, so if you are having young visitors in town, stop by and pick up this useful information.

Community Services - Katy Mosier Office Hours 9-11 AM, Monday-Friday, Welcome Center kmosier@suncityorovalley.com 520-917-8058 Front Yards and Artifacts Given the choice between reviewing the governing documents or enjoying our great weather, surroundings and facilities, it is easy to see why we tend to put off familiarizing ourselves with this mundane task. Consequently, residents are often caught unaware when they receive a Courtesy Notice or Violation Notice.

One of the most commonly misunderstood items on these notices concerns the display of artifacts in the front yards, street-facing side yards or within courtyards if visible above the wall. An artifact is an ornamental object, showing human workmanship or modification. No statues, depictions, artificial flowers made of any material, decorative yard ornaments or other man-made decorations are allowed in these areas.

There are exceptions. You may place an artifact on top of a front or street-facing side courtyard wall. The total length of the courtyard wall determines the number of artifacts allowed on top of that wall (one per four linear feet of wall).

Placement of these artifacts on the courtyard wall is at the discretion of the homeowner.

Allowable artifacts include pots, but they must contain well-maintained live plants unless they are on top of that courtyard wall. A pot with a live plant may also be displayed in the front or street-facing side yard if it is within a plant

The Tucson Festival of Books, held on the campus of the University of Arizona, is now the third largest book festival in the country. This year it will be held on March 10 and 11.

The Friends of the Library (FOL) plans to run a bus from SCOV to the festival on Saturday, March 10. See flyer insert and FOL article for details. Our library endcaps this month feature books written by this year’s festival authors. Recreation and Fitness - Lonnie Davis ldavis@suncityorovalley.com 520-917-8073 The Key to Weight Control: Energy Balance Think of energy balance as weight management. A calorie is a unit of energy. When we eat, we consume calories that provide our bodies with energy to do everything, from breathing to walking. So, the more we move, the more we burn. Controlling weight is balancing energy. If the numbers of calories in and out are the same, you will maintain your weight. If you burn more calories than you eat, you’ll lose weight. Everyone knows what happens when we eat too much and move too little. Physical activity also fires up your metabolism, so you automatically burn calories while sitting, watching TV or sleeping (not a bad deal, right?). Weight management through energy balance may also lower your blood pressure and cholesterol levels, help control blood sugars and increase energy levels. If you’re not getting enough physical activity each day, it’s extremely difficult to maintain or lose weight or to keep it off.

Special Note From the Aquatic and Fitness Center (AFC) Orientation on how to use the gym equipment is held every Thursday, 1 PM, so stop in and sign up. Contact Lonnie Davis, AFC Coordinator, to discuss questions or problems with the AFC. AFC and Desert Oasis: See Hours of Operation on page 2.

Why do you want to serve as a Board member, and what do you feel you will specifically contribute to the Board if elected?

Living in SCOV for over 22 years, I have volunteered and served on the Architectural Review Committee for seven years, the Marketing Committee for eight years and have headed the Ambassadors for the last six years and have had the honor of serving on your Board twice to complete the Lou Gard terms of Directors who resigned. I want to serve on our Board because of my experience in SCOV and my desire to give back to the community.

We have seen many improvements, such as the AFC, Pro Shop, The Views Restaurant and most recently the Desert Oasis Recreation Center update. There are a number of projects being considered such as updating the Activity Center. The Long Range Planning Committee may consider additional projects based on resident input from a coming survey. I want to be on your Board to help ensure fiscal responsibility and see that projects are managed properly, on

schedule and on budget, and that you get the most bang for your buck.

What goals would you like to help the Board achieve during your term?

I will support future capital projects based on demonstrated need or members' consensus, and the availability of capital funds as indicated by projected Capital Contribution Fee revenue. As your Board member, I will commit to doing everything in my power to avoid special assessments for future capital projects.

With information from the Asset Reserve study being done, my goal will be to ensure that it is adequately funded to cover future expenditures.

What do you perceive as the most important issue in SCOV, and what is your opinion on the matter?

We have several issues facing SCOV in the near future.

One that is getting a lot of buzz at present is a homeowner's desire to protect existing views versus another homeowner's desire to expand existing structures. Another factor in this discussion is the preservation of enhancement of property values. What solution supports this outcome? There is no easy answer. Current law and SCOV regulations support the rights of homeowners to improve their property, so long as the improvement conforms to ARC and Oro Valley requirements, and is in “harmony” with existing surroundings and structures.

Why do you want to serve as a Board member, and what do you feel you will specifically contribute to the Board if elected?

I lived in the Tucson area for over 22 years and decided to move to SCOV because of its attractive houses, yards and facilities. The main reason I moved here is the residents and their sense of community. I want to serve as a Board member in order to help preserve the quality of life here and to Carol Gloriosa maintain the legacy of previous leadership.

For SCOV to continue to be a viable and outstanding active adult community requires that a director have experience in making informed and responsible decisions. They must also be open to maintaining two-way communication with their constituency and being responsive to multiple points of view. My career and educational background involved management, finance, law and budget planning in the fields of banking, law and education. I am member of two card groups, started a block party involving 124 residences, joined the Bocce Club and captained one of the SCOV teams in the 2017 Senior Olympics. I am a member of the Architectural Review Committee and have studied and applied the rules in our Master Declaration and the Development Standards. These documents, plus the Bylaws, Board Policy and charters for standing, service and ad hoc committees, taught me how SCOV resources are utilized, budgeted and maintained.

What goals would you like to help the Board achieve during your term?

Most of the Board goals approved last June remain important especially regarding maintenance of the contingency fund and current and planned capital expenditures versus budget. A system of asset allocation based on the profitability of key income and expense centers could be established.

What do you perceive as the most important issue in SCOV, and what is your opinion on that matter?

Most important is keeping the Association financially

strong. Without that strength we cannot maintain the quality of life, amenities and home values we enjoy. In addition, we should not lose sight of the fact that potential home buyers come here to see the attractive setting and facilities. This requires keeping our buildings and lands in up-to-date and attractive condition while continuing to hold a strong financial position. That is not an easy task, but I look forward to hearing all points of view and helping the Board reach a consensus on issues for the present and future.

Why do you want to serve as a Board member, and what do you feel you will specifically contribute to the Board if elected?

Serving as a Board member is another way to continue to support the community I love. I am passionate about our community and will bring enthusiasm, a direct communication style, common sense, strong organizational skills and integrity to my work on the Board. My prior career and life Joy Huxtable experience, SCOV volunteer experience and my strong work ethic will support the Board’s mission to establish policy and to maintain and enhance the assets and facilities of the Association.

To paraphrase a famous phrase, I asked myself what more can I do for my community, rather than asking what my community can do for me?

What goals would you like to help the Board achieve during your term?

We need to continue to maintain and update our facilities and amenities. There will always be projects that compete for Association funding, e.g., renovation of the Activity Center, potential reconstruction of the golf course greens and upgrades to The Views Restaurant kitchen. These competing demands will require thoughtful analysis, discussion, creativity, negotiation and compromise. My goal would be manage our various funds, so there is no need for a special assessment and so our dues remain competitive.

What do you perceive as the most important issue in SCOV, and what is your opinion on the matter?

SCOV currently functions well with the support of an experienced management team and staff and many committed volunteers. We are financially stable and have wonderful amenities that are well-maintained. However, we need to always be looking toward the future. The work done by the Future Housing Task Force and the Long Range Planning Committee is very important to our community’s success in the future. We must continue to focus on the future, determining what future homeowners will want and position SCOV to meet those needs. Continuing to be proactive, rather than reactive will help ensure SCOV remains a leader among active adult communities in southern Arizona.

Major new real estate developments adjacent to or near SCOV, including the Arroyo Grande Projects.

My opinion is that SCOV (not just some of our residents) should: 1. ensure that we are all kept up-to-date on such plans and their status, and 2. aggressively lobby the Town, County and State in order to keep as much undeveloped land as possible adjacent to our community.

Architectural Review Committee (ARC) is perhaps one of the busiest committees in SCOV. We meet twice a month (exception was December due to the holiday) and we process between 20 and 30 requests a month. That does not include roofing, painting of a whole house or flatwork such as concrete and pavers which can be approved in-house by the Community Services Coordinator. It requires meeting with the homeowner to review the work that is to be done.

That isn't all bad since we review very interesting projects.

Our great hope is that the new ad hoc committee to propose structure to our documents will protect our beloved mountain views. I'm sure there are not many residents who will not want that amenity preserved. ARC has limited rulings in the Development Standards in regard to house additions and plantings. Our community continues to grow with the times; life is never static.

Election Ballots, Initiatives and Forums On Tuesday, February 20, a ballot will be either emailed or USPS mailed to all homeowners. The 2018-2019 SCOV Association budgeting process began in January. The process started with department supervisors developing forecasts for operations and capital expenditures. This work is reviewed by the General Manager and Controller to develop a draft budget. The first draft budget is presented at the Finance-Budget Committee’s meeting Monday, February 26, 1 PM. Additions/changes recommended during this meeting are used to develop a second draft, which will be presented and discussed at the committee’s special meeting Monday, March 5, 1 PM. If a third draft is needed, it will be presented and reviewed at the committee’s regularly scheduled March 19 meeting. The budget approved and recommended by the committee will be presented to the Board of Directors at the Thursday, April 12 Study Session. The budget, with any Board changes, will be placed on the Board’s agenda for approval during its April 24 meeting.

We hope you like the new wood-covered menu handcrafted by Aalt Brouwer, assisted by the SCOV Woodshop.

Take Time To Look Next time you are out at your mailbox, take time to look at the box, Could it use a fresh coat of paint? Now that the weather is cooler, perhaps it’s time to paint the pole, box and flag. Check with the Consumer Referral Vendor List for names of people who will do it for you at a nominal cost, if you don’t wish to do the actual painting yourself.

Please remember, trash receptacles are not to be put out until the morning of scheduled pickup. Cans need to be put away and not be visible from the street or neighbor’s property as soon as possible after being emptied.

Another item that needs mentioning, as it is the responsibility of the homeowner, is raised sidewalks. If the cement is raised ½-inch or more and could cause a walker to trip and fall, it needs to be repaired. More often than not, the raising is caused by a large root from a tree in the yard. Take time to look. Is yours OK?

It’s typically associated with a neighborhood or local area, however, the kind of community I’m talking about is much more in-depth than that. It’s about the importance or sense of belonging that we all are so attracted to. It’s the need to be connected to one another, the desire to belong and be a part of something meaningful, fun and entertaining. It is the reason people do volunteer work and join groups and clubs.

As we busy ourselves with our individual lives and pursuing our goals we all desire to experience community. The need for being connected is built into all of us. A genuine community is a group of people who belong to one another.

Real community is a group of people who are committed to one another in every way possible. They share the same vision and values in life. They care for one another deeply. If you would like to experience what that feels like, I would encourage you to join one of the men's or women's golf clubs and become connected to our golfing community.

Superintendent - Michael Kropf scvgolf@suncityorovalley.com 520-917-8063 Last fall, a new committee started meeting to discuss the possibility of replacing the greens. The Board of Directors approved the formation of the committee with the task of determining whether the greens need to be rebuilt, the logistics of replacing the greens, the costs associated with such a large project and the advantages and disadvantages of new greens.

The members of the committee are made up of representatives of each golf club, an at-large representative from the community, a board liaison and staff representatives from the Pro Shop, administration and maintenance. Most members of the committee do not have a background in agronomy or much knowledge about the science involved in growing golf course greens. Independent experts are being brought in to give presentations to educate and explain what goes into greens construction and reasons that old greens need to be replaced.

Information has been gathered about other golf courses in Southern Arizona and what they have done with their greens over the years. Soil and water tests over the last ten years at The Views have been compiled to show the change in conditions of the greens since reclaimed water was introduced in 2005. In January, extensive soil tests were performed to get an accurate analysis of the condition of the greens.

The committee meets every second Monday of the month, 2 PM, Welcome Center. It is an open meeting, so please attend and learn why the greens need to be replaced.

Our women’s and men’s golf clubs continue to grow. The clubs offer weekly events and tournaments that help build market share in a competitive golf market. Recent statistics show an increase in the number of rounds played by our residents and public play.

A big thank you goes out to Mike Kropf and his crew. They work wonders to keep our golf course in excellent condition. Another big thank you to our Pro Shop staff and players' assistants. They work hard to keep our golf hassle free.

Our Director of Golf, Rick Price, continues to schedule new events and tournaments for both the golfer and non-golfer residents of SCOV. He is also organizing events for nonresidents, which is increasing our public play.

Congratulations to the two-man team winners of the Governor's Cup held January 24, 27 and 31.

Our next tournament will be the Club Championship held March 7, 10 and 14. The Club Champion will be the low gross winner of the championship flight. All flights will be gross and net, so there is something for everyone.

Playing in tournaments and the weekly events gives you points toward playing in The Views Cup Final that will be held March 28. You can keep tabs on your progress by checking the postings on the bulletin board.

The weekly events for February start with Heartless Scramble on February 7. A recent change in the game requires players with a handicap of 26 or higher to have two tee shots and two second shots during the round as opposed to three of each. On February 14, the game is a 2 Man Better Ball followed by a general membership meeting and lunch at the Activity Center, commonly referred to as a BASH. Bring your street shoes, as no golf shoes are allowed in the Activity Center. A Step Aside Scramble will be played on February 21 and on February 28, 2 Better Balls. All games are played under USGA Rules of Golf, so putt everything out and play the ball down unless announced otherwise.

By now we have most of our seasonal residents back, and hopefully most of you saw some of the fun changes we have made in the restaurant. Our Christmas Eve Dinner was a huge success with great food, wine and company. Guests are enjoying our new menu and we look forward to making small seasonal changes to it in the future.

Our new cocktail menu has also been well received. New plates and silverware have been purchased to modernize plate presentations. Lastly, new uniforms have been given out to our staff, making them look modern and professional.

On February 14, we are excited to offer a three-course Valentine’s Day menu with an optional wine pairing. See Coming Events for details. We hope you will come and join us for great food and a pleasant evening.

With the busy season upon us, I want to remind everyone that, although many improvements have been made, any kitchen can only do so much with a large volume of orders in a short period of time. We strive for orders to take no longer than 20 minutes every day, but on busy nights like Fridays, this is extremely difficult because we are serving 200 hundred orders in a two-hour period of time. That amounts to a plate of food being served every 40 seconds. The best kitchens in the country are hard pressed to keep that pace going.

There is, however, a solution to this dilemma. If you order prior to 5 PM on Friday, you will receive your food faster, as well as spread out the congestion in the kitchen. I thank you for understanding, and look forward to serving you in the coming months.

Being a Section 501 (c)(3) approved public charity, all donations to the Sun City Vistoso Foundation are deductible from Federal and State income taxes. And, all grants from the Foundation are made to charitable organizations for worthy causes. The Foundation made a grant to The Views 9-Hole Women's Golf Club which is holding a fund raising event in support of cancer research at the Banner University Medical Center. Join the fun for a round of golf, chipping and putting contests and other fun-filled events at The Views Golf Club on Tuesday, February 6. You will have a very enjoyable time and also help support the fight against cancer.

Tucson Concert Band Do you love great band music? If so, please join the Tucson Concert Band in their annual SCOV performance in the Activity Center Auditorium. Highlights include "America the Beautiful," "Battle Hymn of the Republic," highlights from Stravinsky's "Firebird Suite" and a Barbra Streisand medley.

U of A Art Museum These very popular events from the museum have a large following in SCOV. This event is titled “High Anxiety —What Is It About Abstract Art?" The event will be at the Activity Center/Native American rooms.

Tickets, $10 pp, will be available Feb. 5, 7, 12 and 14, 9-11 AM, Activity Center.

Sunday, February 18, 2 PM POP Tennis — Community Introduction A new sport is surfacing in senior communities. POP Tennis is being introduced throughout the U.S. as the softer side of tennis. It's played on a smaller court with a large wooden paddle and a lower pressure ball. This reduces ball speed and the need to cover as much court space. The serve is underhand which allows for slower motion with little shoulder elevation. A demonstration of the new sport will take place at the Desert Oasis courts at the stated date and time. Come join us.

Friday, February 23, 9 AM Health Fair Visit many health and wellness-related vendors and learn about their services in the Auditorium. This is a well-attended event by the SCOV community.

Saturday, February 24, 8:30 AM-12:30 PM Home Remodeling Fair Are you contemplating a home remodel? Need some advice and support? Plan to attend the Home Remodeling Fair sponsored by the Marketing Committee in the Auditorium.

There will be presentations by homeowners who have been through a remodel, tips and trends from the local real estate industry and advice from local home remodeling and landscaping experts. In addition, there will be exhibits by local vendors and drawing for prizes for those in attendance.

Monday, February 26, 1 PM Author Jan Cleere Local historian and author, Jan Cleere, will tell stories of the lives of early Arizona women, from the notorious to the remarkable, many of whom broke the gender expectations of their times. The talk will be held in the Auditorium, and afterwards, Jan will sign copies of some of her many books, including Never Don’t Pay Attention, Levi’s and Lace and Amazing Girls of Arizona. There is no charge, however, to help us plan for attendance, you will need to obtain a ticket beginning Monday, February 12, Library.

Monday, February 26, 7 PM A Guatemalan Adventure with Common Hope SCOV residents Randy and Jane Moody will report in Catalina Vista on their travel to Antigua, Guatemala to visit the headquarters of the nongovernmental organization, Common Hope, to see first-hand the organization’s work in the area to improve education, health care, housing and family development in a country where 60 percent of the population lives in poverty.

Aleda will be taking on a few new students this season, so any resident with an interest in creating a head or bust under close supervision from our professional and patient artist, Aleda, please contact our president. We were able to provide over 2,000 articles of clothing, afghans, quilts, walker/wheelchair bags, tote bags and infant items. Recipients included IMPACT, Teen Outreach Pregnancy Services, Sr. Jose Women's Shelter, Youth on Their Own, Veterans Health Services, Vets for Vets and Tri-Community Services.

In 2018 we return to our focus of sewing clothing for children.

We've started work- Sewers Carol Myers and Ellie Anderson. ing again with Amphi School District to sew flannel pajama bottoms, nightgowns, jumpers and skirts for students in need.

Most of the clothing we sew are from simple patterns. If you are a former or current sewer who might be interested in helping us, stop by the Sewing Room to check us out. We'd love to show you around.

He also constructed terrariums for Macy’s Department Stores in the Northwest. Gary joined the Silversmith and Lapidary Club in Gary Jones making looped wire earrings. the fall of 2016 after taking the student orientation class. One of the things he particularly appreciates about the club is the opportunity for creative expression. Another is the helpfulness of fellow silversmiths. He enjoys creating cabochons from rocks and the processes for integrating them into silver jewelry pieces. His artistic background is a great fit with the club and his willingness to become a monitor shows his enthusiasm and commitment. Clubs don’t operate by themselves, and he helps keep the club going strong.

The Fitness Swim Club is back to our winter times. New members are welcome and should be able to swim 400m at a comfortable pace. Workouts are set by one of the participants. We generally go 2,400 to 3,000 yards per workout.

Some do more, few do less. Mostly freestyle, though supplemented with some stroke work.

Masters swimmers, triathletes and just those wanting a set workout with others are welcome. Please ensure you have medical clearance to undertake a vigorous workout.

Forty years after his death, the system of exercises developed by Joseph Pilates to strengthen your core muscles (abdomen and back muscles), has never been in such high demand. Fortunately, SCOV offers Joseph Pilates exercise classes twice per week here in our AFC. People ask can the benefits of this Pilates method, which comes from the strengthening and stretching exercises we do, really develop and strengthen the body's core (abdomen and back muscles), increase spine mobility and build flexibility? The answer is yes, and the additional benefits you'll see from taking our group mat classes will also include better balance, more muscle tone and increased stamina. The POP-ular sport called POP Tennis is coming to SCOV for everyone looking for a new, exiting racquet sport. POP Tennis is played on a scaled-down version of a regular tennis court. A shorter, lightweight, perforated wooden paddle, that comes in various grip sizes and handle length, is used with low compression balls. The same tennis scoring and rules apply but only a single, underhand serve is allowed. This is an advantage for those with shoulder or elbow issues. POP Tennis POP Tennis paddle and ball. is a fun, social activity that is compatible with and complementary to both tennis and pickleball. A Grand Arrival Event and demonstration is scheduled for Sunday, February 18, 2 PM, Desert Oasis courts. Look for more information in the coming weeks.
