Xtreme Heaters was developed to provide a safe and reliable solution to protect your boat from freeze damage. The company was launched in 2004, and it has been consistently extending the boating season, year after year. Since then, customers have not only used our freeze protection heaters for boats, but have started to use them in RV’s, industrial equipment, well houses, backflow prevention enclosures, and even military applications.

The Original Xtreme Heater

The original Xtreme Heater, also known as the Xtreme Engine Compartment Heater or Bilge Heater, is designed to prevent freeze damage in equipment spaces, such as an engine compartment, bilge, or pump room. It uses self-regulating PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) technology to maintain a consistent temperature and prevent freezing. The safety features built into this line of heaters is unmatched as is its reliability. It is certified to the standard of the US Coast Guard for use in engine spaces that may contain gas fumes. The Xtreme Bilge Heater is an essential piece of equipment for boaters who keep their boats in cold weather climates or who may encounter sudden drops in temperature while on the water.

Xtreme Bilge Heaters are easy to install and use, and it requires little to no maintenance once it is set up. It is also designed to be safe and reliable, with automatic shut-off features and other safety features to prevent accidents and ensure peace of mind.

Why Xtreme Heaters?

Easy Installation

The Xtreme Heater is unique in that it is a smaller unit than others on the market, making the installation even easier. Larger outdated heaters are restrictive as they can’t fit in preferred mounting locations. Despite its compact design, the waterproof 58cfm fan and forced air design moves more air than other products are capable of.

Efficient

Our custom heating element is designed using the latest technology so it is smaller and more efficient than other products on the market. We’re the only one that enjoys this element as it is our own design.

Fast Acting

The heaters begin running at 40F and turns off at 55F at which point it runs a 10 minute cool down to bring the heater back to ambient temperature. Heaters that trap warm air in themselves can’t react to temperature changes effectively.

Increases

Battery Life

The Xtreme Heater not only protects your motor, it will also help increase your battery life and provide more cold cranking power during the winter months.

Our mission in creating Xtreme Heaters is to build the safest, most reliable, and efficient product available. Our heaters are the safe and easy answer to keeping you on the water longer.

Boating Education is Key to a Fun and Safe Time on the Water

Enjoying your time on the water with family and friends starts with being safe and responsible. We all remember learning how to drive under the watchful eyes of a teacher or parent. After decades of driving, for many of us it is just a habit to put on your seatbelt, check your mirrors and use your turn signals. Whether you’re an experienced boater or brand new, regardless of what type of boat you have, you should never stop learning and practicing. A great place to get that education is from America’s Boating Club. For over a hundred years, the organization’s focus has been on providing unsurpassed boating safety education. Offering in-person, on the water and online classes For Boaters, By Boaters in boat handling, navigation, boat maintenance, weather and related subjects, America’s Boating Club has over 20,000 members organized into more than 300 squadrons across the country.

If you are looking for in-person boating education from certified instructors, America’s Boating Club offers several types of training to meet each student’s needs. The most popular is the America’s Boating Course which takes four weeks to complete. This course gives students the basics and essential skills needed to get out on the water safely and meets most states’ boating education requirements. Continued education courses include Boat Handling, designed to build competence and confidence on the water with an indepth look at practical boating skills. Marine Navigation and Advanced Piloting focus on the skills needed to effectively use charts and marine electronics as well as a knowledge of winds, currents and tides. Other in-depth courses include Cruising and Cruise Planning, Engine Maintenance, Marine Electronics, Sailing and Weather.

If you are interested in rounding out your knowledge or discovering something new, the brief boating education seminars led by experienced volunteer instructors are short and focused, usually lasting two hours. Topics include Boat Handling, Navigation, Facing the Environment, Safety, Techniques and Cruising.

America’s Boating Club’s Hands-on Training program is a fun way to develop the skills and techniques that will take your abilities to the next level. These intensive courses last one or two days and combine classroom technical education

and on the water real-world techniques to cover applicable topics like docking, anchoring, boat handling, maneuvering and rescues.

In addition, the organization offers a number of online courses and live webinars. The online courses allow students to proceed at their own pace and America’s Boating Course is now available in Spanish and English online. The organization offers several online seminars such as AIS Electronics for Boaters; How to Use Your GPS; Planning Your Cruise; Weather for Boaters; All About Marine Radio; Rivers, Locks and Lakes; Crew at the Helm and Hurricane Preparation. The live webinars bring together instructors and students in a virtual classroom. The sessions are usually recorded for students to review at a later time. Previous webinars have included: Crossing Borders, GRIDs and GRIBs: Computer Forecasting and Navigation, Marine Weather Forecasting, Thunderstorm/Severe Weather Forecasting, and Oceanography.

Lastly, America’s Boating Club recently enhanced its wildly successful, comprehensive year-round campaign designed to educate recreational boaters on a variety of safety topics –Boat Live 365. Curating a collection of educational resources in collaboration with industry partners, Boat Live 365 promotes the value of boating safety to new and experienced boaters alike. Educational topics include alcohol and drug use, carbon monoxide, life jackets, cold water immersion, propeller strikes and the importance of boating navigation.

Members are vital to strengthening the communities they live in and know it’s important to live their values by giving back through public service and volunteer opportunities. Members provide courtesy vessel safety checks, help the NOAA’s National Ocean Service keep nautical charts accurate and organize beach cleanups. LOGBOOKS: THE KEY TO SMOOTHER & SMARTER BOATING

A logbook is more than just a collection of notes—it’s a vital tool for the efficient operation, management, and navigation of your boat. Whether you’re sailing the ocean, cruising the ICW, or enjoying a day trip, a detailed logbook keeps you organized and proactive on the water. It also provides an ongoing record of your boat’s history, valuable in both maintenance and emergencies, and can make selling your boat easier.

What Should Be Included

Watch Log: The Watch Log is the heart of your logbook, where you record vital information about the boat’s operation and conditions at regular intervals. Every hour, jot down your position, the weather, and any notable observations about the boat. This practice keeps you in tune with the vessel’s systems and helps catch small issues before they turn into big problems. Even on shorter trips, this awareness helps you stay prepared.

Cruising Log: Your cruising log is your travel journal. Document places you visit—towns, marinas, anchorages, and restaurants. It’s a great way to remember adventures and serves as a guide for future trips. Wondering if that marina was good for repairs or what restaurant you liked by the water? Your log will have the answers.

Inventory Log: This log tracks your spare parts and maintenance supplies. Keeping a current list of what’s on board—along with notes on where items are stored—prevents frustration when searching for parts. It’s especially useful for preparing for longer trips, helping you see if you need to restock essential items.

Fluids and Fills Log: Managing fuel, water, oil, and pump-outs is essential. Record when you fill up with fuel, top off water, or pump out the holding tank. Keeping receipts for pump-outs ensures proof in regulated areas. A fluids log helps prevent overfilling or underestimating usage.

Maintenance, Repairs, and Upgrades Log: One of the most important logs, this tracks all maintenance and repairs, from oil changes to engine work. Note the dates, details, and who did the work. This log will help you track recurring issues, manage future upgrades, and even estimate the service life of components.

Personal Experience: From Chaos to Organization

Growing up on a lake in the Midwest, I learned early on the value of tracking things like maintenance schedules for our family’s ski boat and pontoon. Though I didn’t know it at the time, we were essentially keeping a logbook. Years later, when my husband and I bought our first cruising boat, I realized how crucial proper record-keeping was.

At first, we didn’t have a system. We used a steno notebook, jotting down random notes that soon became a chaotic mess. Every time we wanted to check on something, we’d flip through pages, frustrated and often unable to find what we needed.

Eventually, we started to develop a better system. We printed out spreadsheets and created separate sections for each category. Finally, we went a step further, creating individual logs for each major piece of equipment on the boat. It was a game-changer.

Ready-Made Logbooks

Today, you don’t need to create your own system from scratch. Many pre-made logbooks are available for purchase, designed for different boating needs. When choosing one, consider these features:

Categorized Information: The more organized the log, the easier it will be to retrieve information later. Look for a logbook that separates data by category—such as engine, electronics, and plumbing—and even by individual pieces of equipment.

Data Spaces: Ensure the logbook has space for the information you find important, like fuel consumption rates. You don’t need to fill out every section, but if something isn’t included, you’re unlikely to track it.

Practical Size: Your logbook should be small enough to store easily but large enough to allow you to write legibly. You don’t want to be cramped while recording details, but you also need to keep the book stowed in a handy spot.

The Bottom Line: Write It Down!

Whichever logbook system you use, consistency is key. Writing things down helps you catch problems early, track your boat’s history, and plan future trips more efficiently. A good logbook isn’t just a record—it’s your guide to better boating.

If a friend just bought a new boat, a logbook is a great boatwarming gift!

SEAKEEPER RIDE:

NOW AVAILABLE FOR LARGER BOATS

THE ONLY COMPLETE UNDERWAY STABILIZATION SYSTEM INTRODUCES TWO NEW PRODUCTS FOR BOATS UP TO ~42 FEET.

Seakeeper, Inc., the leader in marine motion control, announced the addition of two new systems to their underway stabilization product line, Seakeeper Ride. Designed for boats ~37-42 feet (11-13 meters), Seakeeper Ride 750 and Seakeeper Ride 750 Quad join their three existing systems in eliminating up to 70% of underway pitch and roll on boats as small as 19 feet.

While the two new systems are designed for the same sized vessels, the controller sizes and the transoms they serve differ. The Seakeeper Ride 750 system consists of two larger controllers and will fit most vessels in this size range, whereas the Seakeeper Ride 750 Quad system has four smaller controllers and is suitable for unique transoms that may have hull design elements that restrict available space. Both the Seakeeper Ride 750 and Seakeeper Ride 750 Quad systems were designed with aluminum components, a deviation from previous products for purposes of added strength.

“Since the launch of Seakeeper Ride two years ago, large boat owners have been asking for a larger Ride system,” said Seakeeper President and CEO Andrew Semprevivo. “With expert modifications to our existing design and extensive tests, we are ready to deliver the ‘wow’ boaters have come to expect from us with, not just one, but two products for this size range, to make sure every boater can experience complete underway stabilization.”

The Seakeeper Ride 750 system retails for $17,500, and the Seakeeper Ride 750 Quad system retails for $20,500. Shipments will begin in mid-October.

Seakeeper Ride offers systems for boats ~19-42 feet and is available for stepped or non-stepped, fiberglass or aluminum hulls with a cruising speed greater than 20 mph and equipped with a compatible MFD. Seakeeper Ride controllers mount to the boat’s transom below the waterline. Using proprietary inertial sensing hardware and software, the system takes 1,000 measurements per second to understand the boat’s behavior in all three axes. It then commands deployment of custom-designed rotary blades, making 100 adjustments per second, to create lift that automatically manages the vessel’s motions.

Seakeeper Ride is standard equipment on many popular boat models, including those from Sportsman, Scout, Chris-Craft, Jupiter, Tidewater, Edgewater, Key West, SeaHunter, Parker, and more. To view a list of models with Seakeeper Ride as standard equipment, visit ride.seakeeper.com/standard. It is also available for refit through a global partner network. Hard to believe, but modern fishing was first introduced to braided line way back in 1970. Over the decades, its popularity grew alongside technological advances in available styles and brands. And DAIWA is a leader in that space.

DAIWA’s original Japanese manufactured SAMURAI Braid hit the market in 2009 and quickly gained a following, especially amongst bass anglers – almost cultlike status. True fishing artisans were drawn to its strength, smoothness, and reliability. And now, DAIWA treats those ardent anglers – as well as newcomers to fishing braid – to SAMURAI 8 Braid.

Sharrow Marine, the industry leader in innovative marine propulsion technology, announced today the launch of its new propeller series, the Sharrow MX-A™, designed specifically for boats with outboards in the 40-200 HP range. This latest release brings Sharrow’s awardwinning technology to a far wider range of boaters, including those with pontoon boats as well as smaller fishing and pleasure boats.

The Sharrow MX-A is engineered to deliver the same industryleading performance benefits that have defined Sharrow’s product line—improving handling and performance, dramatically reducing noise, and enhancing fuel efficiency—now optimized for lower HP outboard engines. Boaters can expect smoother and quieter rides, faster acceleration, and longer cruising ranges, making the Sharrow MX-A ideal for those looking to elevate their boating experience with advanced marine technology.

“With the MX-A series, we’re taking the same groundbreaking propeller technology we pioneered for larger engines and making it accessible to boats in the 40-200 HP range. This is a huge leap forward in performance for a segment that has been waiting for true innovation,” said Greg Sharrow, Founder and CEO of Sharrow Marine.

“We are thrilled to finally bring smaller outboards the efficiency and handling upgrades they deserve.”

The Sharrow MX-A is Sharrow Marine’s first-ever aluminum propeller, opening up its patented technology to an entirely new market. CNCmachined from aircraft-grade aluminum at Sharrow’s Detroit-based facilities, the MX-A offers the unparalleled precision and patented technology of Sharrow’s stainless steel models to smaller engines and delivers unmatched handling, acceleration, and efficiency.

Compatible with 2-stroke, 4-stroke, command thrust, in-line 4-cylinder, and power thrust motors, the Sharrow MX-A is designed to fit major outboard brands, including Mercury, Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, Tohatsu, Johnson, and Evinrude. REVOLUTIONARY ROTATING DOCKING PROTECTION

BoatUS Foundation: Call for Volunteer Reviewers for New Grant Program to Remove Abandoned Derelict Vessels (ADVs) Nationwide

• Sidekicks are easy to remove and relocate

• Dock, corner, and piling mounts come in single or double coverage with Polyform Fenders in the following sizes: 15.5”, 20.5”, 27”, 34.8”

• Rotating bumpers are easy to install and fully adjustable to protect your hull

The BoatUS Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water is seeking a diverse panel of volunteers who will serve as peer reviewers to evaluate proposals for Abandoned and Derelict Vessel (ADV) removal grants between December 2024 and July 2025.

The Foundation has been awarded a four-year, $10 million grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Marine Debris Program with funding provided by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to clean up and improve safety along coastal areas by removing abandoned and damaged boats from our nation’s waterways and the Great Lakes. Reviewers will be part of this national effort to improve the environment and remove unsightly vessels from our waters.

Volunteers with backgrounds in marine debris management, the boating industry, education, non-profits, government agencies, marketing and outreach, grant management, financial analysis, project evaluation, impact assessment, as well as legal or regulatory fields are encouraged to apply. Reviewers are asked to commit to at least one review cycle (2-3 months) with an expected time commitment of 25 hours per cycle that includes independent review of proposals and 4-8 hours of virtual meetings.

How to Apply: Prospective grant reviewers are encouraged to learn more about the BoatUS Foundation Abandoned and Derelict Vessel Removal Program. To apply, visit boatus.org/advgrant/reviewer

“This is a coordinated, impactful investment to remove abandoned and derelict vessels, and we’re proud to help NOAA carry out this important mission to rid our shores and waterways of marine debris,” said BoatUS Foundation president Heather Lougheed. “Our goal over the next four years is to focus on the immediate issue –the substantial number of ADVs that need removal.”

Lougheed added that in the future, the BoatUS Foundation hopes to expand the program to inland freshwater lakes and waterways, and reach a point where ADV removals diminish as educational and preventive efforts have greater impact.

“It’s much more cost-effective to prevent owners from abandoning their boats by showing them other options that are available to dispose of a vessel that’s no longer seaworthy,” Lougheed said.

By being part of this program, volunteers will help remove the harmful pollution and safety hazards caused by ADVs, ensuring a positive impact on the environment and our waters for years to come.

AKZONOBEL’S YACHT BRANDS

ARE LEADING THE WAY IN DIGITAL TRAINING AND SUPPORT FOR YACHT COATING APPLICATORS WORLDWIDE

Following the successful launch of the Awlgrip® 3D Color Visualizer, AkzoNobel has added two further digital capabilities to its technical service offer.

The new innovations include RealWear, a camera headset that will change the way applicators worldwide can access support, and Virtual Reality (VR) Spray Gun technology.

Both RealWear and the VR Spray Gun are compatible with the Awlgrip, Interlux®, International® and Sea Hawk® brands and will help train and upskill both the current and future generation to deliver superior yacht finishes, globally.

The RealWear camera headset is a safe and hands free visual assistant tool that connects applicators directly to the AkzoNobel team for real-time technical support. Users wearing the RealWear glasses can stream video and take pictures, allowing the AkzoNobel technical team to observe issues and offer support in real time from anywhere in the world. The software can be used via mobile and is compatible with both Apple and Google operating systems.

Through the digital solution, AkzoNobel is able to increase access to its renowned technical team by offering quick and convenient communication, removing the applicator's need for travel to access support and allowing them to continue their work with minimal delays. All of which, ultimately save the customer time and money, so they can get back in the water quicker.

Additionally, new VR Spray Gun equipment using cutting edge technology will now be available to teach and refine painting techniques, without the use of any liquid paint.

The VR Spray Gun Equipment is portable, hands-free and intrinsically safe, allowing the AkzoNobel technical teams to transport it anywhere to help train distributor representatives, boatyard applicators, as well as an additional training tool at AkzoNobel’s Yacht Painting Application Centers (YPAC) located around the world.

Users of the VR Spray Gun Equipment can choose between conventional, pressure pot and electrostatic spray guns, which are all complete with air compression sounds and the real life resistance that is felt when pulling the spray gun trigger. The combination of spray guns and VR technology provides a lifelike feel and touch for those who are learning to paint boats or yachts, or want to refine their techniques.

Applicators are taken through the whole process of ‘virtually’ spraying an entire Awlgrip, Interlux®, International® or Sea Hawk system on either the top or bottom of the boat and can learn the difference between primers, topcoats and fouling controls without the need to wait for the paint to dry between coats. The process allows users to see the way they virtually painted the part, how much paint was used, the application time and the cost associated in both time and product.

Not only can the tool support team training, it can provide customers and end users with a firsthand experience of the important role that paint application and skilled professionals play in achieving high-quality results.

These two advancements follow the launch of the interactive Awlgrip 3D Visualization earlier in the year, which simplifies selecting and customizing boat colors from an extensive database, allowing boaters and professionals to view their designs on various boat types.

Richard Jennings, Global Technical Service Manager at AkzoNobel’s yacht coatings comments:

“The yachting industry is spread across the globe and accessing real-time technical support and on-site training can be a challenge for boatyards and applicators. That’s why we have invested in cutting-edge digital solutions to strengthen our support and increase access to our renowned technical team.”

“Our customers always tell us that they highly value the support and capabilities of our technical team and that this is an important contributor to their success.

“So we are proud to introduce RealWear and VR Spray Gun technology to strengthen this support for the yachting industry - it uniquely positions us to offer an unparalleled level of support and training to applicators worldwide, regardless of whether they are a beginner or highly experienced.”

RealWear will be available in late 2024. For more information, please contact your local representative.

TOCARO BLUE WINS 2024 IBEX INNOVATION AWARD

Proteus Hub Earns Top Honors in the OEM Electronics Category

Tocaro Blue, a pioneering marine industry start-up has received the prestigious 2024 IBEX Innovation Award in the OEM Electronics category for its Proteus Hub System. This award, managed by the NMMA and judged by Boating Writers International, recognizes excellence in marine product development, honoring manufacturers and suppliers who bring groundbreaking innovations to market.

Theresa Nicholson, an IBEX Innovation Award judge, praised the system, "Tocaro Blue’s Proteus distills radar information to bring an easy awareness of waters around the boat. Proteus helps the user digest and understand information from their boat’s radar, sonar, and AIS systems."

Traditional marine navigation systems, particularly radar, can be difficult to operate and interpret, especially for less experienced boaters. The Proteus Hub unlocks radar's potential by utilizing Artificial Intelligence to classify and track objects in real-time, simplifying radar information and fusing data from various sources into a single, clutterfree interface. Instead of relying on multiple displays, Proteus consolidates critical data onto one screen, offering intelligent collision alerts and rising seafloor warnings, enhancing situational awareness and safety.

The Proteus Hub is a plug-and-play device compatible with most radar and MFD-equipped boats. It’s available both as an aftermarket solution and for OEM installation. Additionally, the underlying software can be licensed by OEM electronics and vessel control manufacturers, enabling them to integrate AI/ML capabilities into their existing products.

"We are thrilled to receive this prestigious award," said John Minor, CEO of Tocaro Blue. Minor added, "The recognition from IBEX validates our dedication to enhancing the boating experience through advanced technology. Proteus is a key part of our vision to bring modern, userfriendly electronics to recreational boating."

About Tocaro Blue:

Based in Pensacola, FL, Tocaro Blue is at the forefront of creating innovative navigation assistance systems for the marine industry. With a strong focus on safety, usability, and forward-thinking design, the company launched its first product, the Proteus Hub, which is setting a new benchmark in marine electronics. Retailing at $2,950, the Proteus Hub incorporates advanced AI technology, which can also be licensed as software to run on existing hardware, providing flexibility for diverse applications. Tocaro Blue is committed to shaping the future of marine safety and navigation through cutting-edge solutions. www.tocaroblue.com
