The Brandeis Book Award is given to an outstanding high school junior in the top 10% of the class who demonstrates a commitment to civic engagement, community service, political activism, social justice, or volunteer work.
The Dartmouth College Book Award is presented to the junior who, by his/her academic achievements, personal example, leadership, and service, most typifies the ideals of Sierra Canyon.
The Harvard Book Prize is presented to the outstanding junior who combines excellence in scholarship and character together with achievement in other fields.
The Johns Hopkins Book Award is presented to the junior who best exhibits the qualities and characteristics that form the core of the Johns Hopkins ethic. These qualities include a demonstrated desire for intellectual and moral growth; an uncommon interest in, and capacity for, independent and original scholarship; and the strength of character necessary to employ the results of their scholarship for the betterment of society.
The St. John’s College Book Award is presented to a junior who has demonstrated intellectual courage, a dedication to the liberal arts, and Arete (virtue in the sense of one being the best one can be). The selected student thrives on knowledge and discovery, achieves excellence within a depth of curriculum, and demonstrates both thoughtfulness and intelligence in daily life.
For more than 100 years, Rensselaer, in conjunction with high schools around the world, has awarded the Rensselaer Medal to promising high school juniors who have distinguished themselves in math and science. The medal was first presented in 1916 with two purposes:
1. To recognize the superlative academic achievement of young men and women, and to
2. Motivate students toward careers in science and technology.
The University of Pennsylvania Book Award serves to recognize outstanding high school juniors who exemplify the characteristics of Benjamin Franklin, the founder of the University.
The University of Southern California Book Award is presented to the outstanding junior who has demonstrated both an inspired passion for and a deep commitment to the study of history. A burgeoning intellectual, this student takes pride in the clear, thoughtful expression of ideas, whether in academic writing or in spirited discussion. Thirsty for both knowledge and understanding, this student recognizes that a close study of what has come before can often point clearly toward the challenges of the future.
