DEAR READER,
Have you ever asked yourself, what does it mean to be rooted? Being rooted isn’t only about where you stand on the map; it’s about what steadies you, shapes you, and reminds you who you are.
Roots grow, strengthen, and spread. When we say Rooted in Local, we’re talking about more than small businesses. We’re talking about digging beneath the surface to uncover the craft, the courage, and the character that live here the people, stories, and histories that anchor the Brazos Valley and make this community so exceptional.
The Brazos Valley isn’t extraordinary by accident. It’s extraordinary because generations of dreamers, doers, makers, and visionaries planted themselves here and decided to grow. This region has become a living network of talent, family-owned legacy, bold new ideas, and traditions worth preserving.
As I’ve watched this volume come to life, I’ve realized that being rooted means understanding the heart of a place; and honoring the people who make it feel like home. Every member in these pages is part of the story the Brazos Valley is writing right now.
That’s what this volume celebrates: a community growing upward because it is deeply rooted. And I am incredibly honored and proud to share that with you and with our community through The Scout Guide.
With gratitude,
Kathryn

THE BRAZOS VALLEY
was built on heritage, hard work, and hometown pride. Bryan began as a railroad stop and grew into a bustling center of commerce and tradition, while College Station rose around the legacy of Texas A&M—carried forward by generations of scholars, farmers, and dreamers.
Brenham remains rich with German heritage and home to Blue Bell Creameries, a Texas icon. Nearby, historic Chappell Hill and agricultural Hempstead preserve the charm of early Texas settlement, each tied deeply to the land that shaped them. Navasota—the blues capital of Texas—hums with creativity and grit, while Caldwell proudly carries its Czech influence and kolache-making tradition through time.
Across every town, one truth holds: WE ARE ROOTED IN LOCAL.

CELEBRATING 140 YEARS
1885 - 2025
Built in 1885 by Milton and Molly Parker, this stately Victorian residence has watched over Bryan for more than a century, bearing witness to the city’s transformation from a humble railroad town to a thriving cultural hub. A masterpiece of 19th-century architecture, its intricate millwork, grand porches, and time-honored craftsmanship re ect an era when elegance was measured in detail.
Lovingly restored to its original splendor by the current owners Bob and Denise Barbier, the Milton Parker Estate now welcomes guests as a luxurious bed and breakfast, where history and hospitality intertwine. Just steps from Downtown Bryan, this landmark home stands as a living testament to the beauty of preservation and the enduring spirit of Texas heritage.
