On September 27, 2024, Hurricane Helene hit Western North Carolina. The devastating winds, heavy rain, and historic flooding left a lasting impact, one that will be felt in our region for years to come. In the days, weeks, and months following the storm, the community, first responders, and friends from afar came together, showing kindness, generosity, and resilience to help family, friends, neighbors, and strangers who were affected by the storm and its aftermath.
The businesses and people in these pages were among those who sprang into action, and they continue to support the recovery effort. They embody one of The Scout Guide’s core beliefs: “being proactive, engaged members of our communities.”
Whether you are a year-round resident, seasonal resident, or are just passing through, I encourage you to seek out and support the businesses in these pages. Doing so sends a ripple effect throughout our community as we continue to rebuild and recover from Helene. I believe in living well. I believe in living local. I believe in Asheville & Western North Carolina.

GREENVILLE | MY STORY
BY MEG STITH, EDITOR, THE SCOUT GUIDE GREENVILLE
In 2021 we were in search of a home closer to family. While Greenville was a top contender, I had never personally visited. I was excited to see it for myself.
I vividly remember my first “meet cute” with the city of Greenville. We stayed at the historic 100-year-old Westin Poinsett with our then-two-year-old. We walked Main Street, admiring its charming string lights, impressive roster of restaurants, and distinct boutiques. Amid the bustle of happy hour at dusk, we took in the view of Liberty Bridge from atop Falls Park. We drove through charming neighborhoods, all within ten minutes of this invigorating city life.
We met with our realtor the following day, and I told my husband that this was the place.
Fast forward to today: I am still blown away by this wondrous city. Even though it’s growing astronomically, the quintessential hometown feeling remains intact. There is something for everyone—from college students to families to adventure seekers—to experience.
My family and I still find endless reasons to create our own “staycations” in Greenville and beyond: a family dinner at Soby’s New South Cuisine followed by a show at Peace Center Concert Hall, a date night exploring Travelers Rest with dinner at the farm-to-table destination Topsoil, or strolling the movie-like surroundings of Trade Street while shopping in historic Downtown Greer. There is so much to discover in a visit to the Upstate. I consider myself lucky to find new experiences each and every day.
As the Editor of The Scout Guide Greenville, I am honored to be able to champion, celebrate, and elevate small businesses in the city I love and to direct people to the best of local. Here is a list of my favorites, which are also included in our Greenville Insider Guides.
I look forward to your visit and am excited for you to create your own memories here!
