Dear Friends, As I reflect on my first year serving Scottsdale Arts, I am filled with excitement about the progress we have made. I deeply appreciate the people I get to work with, who share my passion for the arts and for serving our community. My sincere thanks to our Board of Trustees, advisory committees, myriad volunteers, and amazing staff for all they do, every day, to provide world-class arts experiences to our citizens. Our complex organization is becoming much more than the sum of its parts. When Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA), Scottsdale Public Art, and Scottsdale Arts Learning & Innovation come together as one, extraordinary things happen. This is particularly evident during events such as Canal Convergence. Last November, Canal Convergence drew more than 270,000 people over 10 days to the Scottsdale Waterfront—and it did so because all our divisions worked together to engage the entire community through public art, artist talks, music, education activities for all ages, and much more. Our programming at SMoCA continues to present cutting-edge, world-class contemporary art to Scottsdale, and the Museum continues its 20th anniversary celebration by honoring its history and looking to the future. The Center is adding more diverse programming and building centers of excellence around our traditional strengths. Scottsdale Public Art continues to manage one of the most successful public art programs in the nation, with awe-inspiring new projects on the horizon. Scottsdale Arts Learning & Innovation serves more than 30,000 students and adults across our community, assuring that every citizen has a chance to experience the arts—at any age. And lastly, the Scottsdale Arts Festival will celebrate its 50th anniversary this coming spring, making it one of the longest running arts festivals in the United States. The coming season is also one of preparation—preparing for exciting and sustained growth. Scottsdale Arts has been fortunate to introduce a few major projects into the City’s upcoming bond issue and, if passed by voters, will build new facilities and improve its campus accessibility and visibility. We anticipate breaking ground on these new facilities by 2020 to make sure that the arts remain part of Scottsdale’s brand and in its DNA. We hope you will come spend some time with us this year and support us by buying a ticket, volunteering, buying a membership, or making a gift to Scottsdale Arts. We are here to serve you—and you empower us to do so.

Sincerely,

Dr. Gerd Wuestemann President & CEO, Scottsdale Arts 480-499-TKTS (8587)
